Silver lining: that gives it a very playoff feel with most games having only day off. Plus, by that time in the season Pop should have an idea about which younger players have earned more minutes and what his rotation is. It would be much harder if this was happening in December.

This schedule seems altogether pretty favorable. only 17 back to back games > yes please!

To my eyes there are 3 potentially brutal stretches:

there’s the rodeo trip, where we host the Nuggets then do Sacramento-Portland-LAL-LAC-Denver in the course of 12 days.

March has a Miami-Orlando BTB on the 16th/17th, and the stretch from the Lakers game in SA on the 24th to when we face them on Apr 4th on the road (where we play Cleveland-Boston-NJ-Houston-Orlando and of course the champs twice). 4 of these 7 games are at home, only NJ is a back to back, and the Magic’s visit is the 2nd of a back to back for them, so it could be worse.

The third stretch i’m worried about is one everybody else seems excited by… the first 10 games or so. We see NO, Chicago, Portland, Utah twice and Dallas twice along with 3 crappy teams – how is that easy pickins’?

by greyberger on Aug 4, 2009 8:53 PM CDT reply actions

greyberger, welcome to PtR.

Good points on the schedule. I think your first to stretches are pretty dead on. As to the 3rd — aside from Portland and Dallas, I think the conventional wisdom around here would say that NO, Chicago and Utah aren’t going to fighting for top honors, and would therefore be likely to end as W’s for us, since we DO expect to be at the top of the Western Conference at the end of the first 82.

Hey ATS,

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but why is there an asterisk in your post above -

"Our first matchup against the 2009 NBA Champions* Los Angeles Lakers "

Last game of the regular season against Dallas is on my birthday. Is it too easy to start wishing for what I want?

And hopefully a few of the televised games will be on ESPN (it’s the only sports channel we get here in Oz. 2 NBA games a week..JOY!!!) (there were about half a dozen televised Spurs games this past season and they were all loses. Sad)

Oh, another thing. Think I should pay USD500 for 50 regular season Spurs games for this coming season from Pontel?? I wouldn’t minded seeing all the new guys play and the Big 3 go around again. Though I did buy that for the 07-08 season and we know how that turned out.

Thanks. There are some interesting acronyms, nicknames, abbreviations, etc. on here…it’s a little confusing sometimes.

Awesome, I definitely think I’ll be taking a couple days off work to drive down to Miami to catch that game followed by Orlando the next night.

To be fair, it’s a lot more interesting to those of us who live in/near NBA cities.

Re-sign Bruce Bowen!

it’s also more interesting to discuss it than only our roster for another 3 months….

We could create a giant list of why we love Manu

"We suck on 'D. Both individually and team-wise, we suck. We're pretty consistent that way. I don't know if I have an answer to that. If I did, we wouldn't suck quite so bad." - Popovich

Wow Chilai. You are effective at silencing a thread. I wonder what other magical powers you have.

I’m too busy making charts about the schedule to post here about it…..

He kind of sounds like Allen Iverson talking about practice, doesn’t he?
