Why I love the Spurs
I always hear people saying things like "I've been a Spurs fan all my life." and "I remember when the Spurs were..." Unfortunately for me I can't say either of these things. I only recently became a Spurs fan. In fact I only recently became a fan of basketball. All the hoopla with the offseason trades, signings, draft, summer league, injuries and expectations for the season to come has made me think about when I first became a Spurs fan.
Like I said, I actually only recently became a fan of NBA basketball; a true fan. I grew up in Trinidad and Tobago and I didn't have much access to NBA games. I would hear stories about the happenings of the NBA at the time but never really took interest. It wasn't till I came to New York that I became an actual fan of the NBA. At first, it was mainly to fit in with everyone else because I had just moved here and I quickly found out that if you had no sports team to root for (or if you chose the wrong team, damn those Jets -_-) you were made fun of. (or at least I was)
I came in 2004 and at the end of my first school year the biggest topic at school was the 2005 NBA Finals. Everyone was talking about it but strangely no one was arguing, like they usually do. The entire school was in agreement that the 2005 NBA champions would be the Detroit Pistons. Um...ok so that means these other guys are the underdogs right? So then finally I get to watch a game. The first (full) NBA game I ever saw was game 2 of that series. And that's when I became a fan. Everyone chose Detroit to win the series so I decided to choose The Spurs and not fit in. (suicide at my school) I would have faced humiliation of epic proportions had the Spurs lost but I needed a team and I found one. They didn't let me down either. You wouldn't believe how sweet it was to have bragging rights over everyone in the school, that was sweet.
Four years later I'm still a fan. I've stuck with the Spurs through wins, losses, injuries, more wins and championships. I love being a Spurs fan and now I'm actually a fan of the NBA so whereas before I would just pick the Spurs to win because I liked them, now when I pick them to win I could tell you why. I have a lot of expectations for this new season and October 28th seems like so far away, but I know that, once again, the Spurs won't let me down.
Well that's my story, hope you were not too bored. If you want to you can tell why you became a fan, I would like to hear about why other Spurs fans became Spurs fans.

I cant wait to see the spurs his season. I heard on espn nba that stephon jakson wants to come back to Texas. I dont know how the spurs could possibly get him though without trading any of our important role players or one of the big three.
GO SPURS GO
SPURS 2010 NBA Champions (if team is healty LoL)
I was born in San Antonio in 84, and my brother is 4 years older than me. Growing up, David Robinson was a god to us. We had a Spurs basketball hoop cemented on the side of our driveway and everything. I would play imaginary games all the time and pretend to be the Spurs beating Jordan and Pippen for the championship.
My second favorite team growing up was the Hornets. Growing up short, I idolized Muggsy Bogues. My brother even had his jersey, and I think we have his book too.

Surprisingly not bring your son to work day…..
My first recollection of ever enjoying a basketball game was with Jordan sporting 45. I had been a casual fan before that, watching games as a ten-year-old with my dad. He got disappointed with MJ’s retirement and toned down on basketball a bit. (I think my dad even made me watch Jordan play baseball on TV). So when MJ came back, it was like Easter sans the eggs and bunnies (side note: as a kid, I thought bunnies came from eggs). That was when I first became an NBA disciple.
Then he retired again. That left me running around like a chicken without its head. I didn’t know which team to root for. Post MJ (not counting the Wiz stints), I experimented on the Jailblazers and the Kings. I, of course, knew Duncan was from VI and that Robinson was the Admiral, but I wasn’t quite in their ship yet. Risking pariah status, let me go out in the open and say that what led me to the Spurs was a 19 year old rookie from France. He was about my age, which, I was sure, created a spiritual connection between us. I saw him play a bit and told myself and all my friends, “This guy is gonna be something.” The NBA Live for PC release that year didn’t have Tony yet, so I created a player and won the chip with TP as the Finals MVP. Manu arrived the next year, and the rest is history.
So there you have it, my Spurs journey. It’s a long post, but it can be summed up in these words: “The GOAT left me hanging, the Queens left me wanting, the Virgin caught my attention, the French made me stay, but the Sickness kept me stuck.”
