my first wallpaper (sort of)

having too much time on my hands, i thought i'd give this wallpaper thing a shot. i don't really know what i'm doing, i've only played around in image editing software before, i'm a bit drunk, and i don't have photoshop. so given that...here's my first real attempt at a spurs wallpaper...

Star-divide

Wallpaper01b_medium

(click to embiggen to 1600x1200)

its a work in progress, so any feedback will be appreciated. i'm not sure about the championship numbering across the top - i sorta like it being there, but i don't think it fits as it stands. and the slogan across the bottom...yeah.

oh, and i forgot to put a ptr logo or url anywhere. whoops.

Love it, really great idea

I like it

but I think Duncan needs moved a little over to the left and the years to the right so they’re in the space between Duncan and the trophy

I love it, SRF. Great concept. Here’re some feedback:

  • Get Photoshop. It’s the best program I know for image editing.
  • The trophy has some jagged lines. You could either get a better image, of use a soft eraser and lots of zoom to try to blend it into the background. You could also try the smudge tool, or an airbrush… I’m sure tomasito and the guys know better options for this. Mine usually involve a lot of work and no efficiency.

Anyway, really like it regardless. Keep it up, and thanks for joining in the fun. (Fun? Fun.)

Yep, a little clean-up here and there and it should be ready for my desktop. Damn it, I can’t keep changing wallpapers every few days, people. But seriously, keep ’em coming.

Why would you make him pay more than a hundred bucks for Photoshop? Because that’s pretty much the only way to get it, paying for it. The other option…no…I dare not think about it.

That reminds me… I’m still using PS7. I should probably get a newer version. But I would never go out and get it without paying out the * for it.

yeah, the cutting of the images isn’t the best. i spent a fair bit of time on TD’s image (and its still not as good as i’d like), but not enough on the LOB trophy – its actually hard to find a clean image of it to even begin editing.

and regarding photoshop – getting it (cough) is no problem (think my housemate has cs2 somewhere), and i had it on my old machine, but i’ve been exploring free/open source solutions to all my software needs on my new box, so i used paint.net for this wallpaper.

Well, a free alternative is GIMP. It’s got pretty much everything Photoshop has, but it’s not as intuitive.

i’ve played around with gimp in the past, but as you say – not intuitive. paint.net is obviously modelled after photoshop, so i found it pretty easy to use. it doesn’t have as many features as photoshop, but its not slouch either.

the problems with this wallpaper aren’t a result of any shortcoming paint.net, but rather my own skill (and patience).

Where did you get that picture of Timmeh, srf?

Anyway, it’s awesome. AND, I recc’d it. Because it’s awesome. Oh, I said that already? Yeah right, I know I did!

i honestly can’t remember where i got the picture from. i’ve had it on my hard drive for a couple of years now, i think i just stumbled across it on some article relating to him.
