This blogger’s opinion on TP should be discredited immediately based on the fact he has a Kobe picture in his header. I’m done.

This baffles me… I dont know what to say. Is this supposed to be a joke:
…putting Matt Bonner on the same team as Scalabrine is an added benefit of this deal
"If an expert says it can't be done, get another expert"

Of course it is.
What could be better than two horrible centers that only shoot 3’s and have red hair?
Hey, Bonner’d love that. Scalabrine would make him look cool by contrast.

Ok, I WAS done. But now I’m not. The entire premise of this article is that the Spurs need to do a trade so that they no longer have 4 players making over $10M, and instead only have 3 which has been their formula. Seriously? And the assumption that trading Tony gets them back down to $68M for payroll? How does that happen unless you cut guys? It’s absurd. You can’t throw in guys “to get the money the money to measure out” and reduce payroll. The only thing this accomplishes is the original ridiculous premise that the Spurs can’t win with 4 guys who get paid $10M. Ugh!!

Obviously, this guy wants Boston to win the title. I mean, wtf kind of proposal is that?
Oh, and I love “burst onto the seen” – seems like a PtR-ism.

Hey Guys
I know you all love TP, but the deal makes financial sense and it makes the Spurs a better team.
They get younger at point guard and one that can get better, a young center who is exactly what Tim Duncan has needed since David Robinson left, a hard worker that can guard Dwight Howard/Andrew Bynum so Duncan can play out on the block.
With Parker, you can pencil in 20/4, but when he turns 30, those numbers could drop because he can’t shoot a lick.
Rondo’s 23 and is getting a shot, and he showed during the playoffs that he can easily put out a triple double day-in-and-day-out.
Again, I know you love him, but look at this objectively.
Although, I should not expect you too because I am more than sure a few of you are stupid enough to believe Parker is better than Chris Paul.
I’m sure you realize that after next season—in addition to Ginobili—Hill, Finley, Mason, AND Rondo could all be free agents. That could leave us with no 1s and 2s, unless we sign a very good (i.e., All Star caliber) point guard AND a very good (i.e., All Star caliber) shooting guard. The FA pool that year is indeed deep, but it would cost even more money (than the Spurs are now paying) and a lot of mojo to complete the team, whether we choose to resign players (with raises for Hill, Mason and Rondo, take note) or pick up FAs.
In my opinion, when you consider that the Spurs FO is acting with Duncan’s window in mind, that deal just isn’t financially better. But that’s just me.

I would trade Parker for Paul in an instant, even though I’m not too fond of some of the cheap things Paul does. But Rondo? The guy’s good, don’t get me wrong… but he just doesn’t fit within the Spurs’ system, and he’s not at Parker’s level yet. The Spurs are trying to win now, while Duncan’s still got some dominance left in him. It’s not a diss on Rondo, he’s going to be a great PG in this league, but with all the offseason changes so far, the Spurs can’t afford to trade away the guy who runs the team.

Not to mention that Parker has bought the “Spurs attitude” to a point, and people keep complaining about Rondo.

WHOA, you cannot say that Tony “can’t shoot a lick” and then tell me Rondo “is getting a shot”.
If you don’t think Tony can shoot a lick then you haven’t watched him play. Nor have you looked at this HotShot chart. The guy was money all seaons from 20 feet.
But no, I wouldn’t do that trade.
Besides, as I said, the whole premise of the trade _ that the Spurs need to get rid of somebody making 8 figures_ is absurd.

He is no Rondo, yet, but Hill is our younger point guard that can get better. We don’t have an official third PG, and I would not want two young developing PG’s. I’d much rather have the young developing PG come off the bench than need to playing 30+ minutes per game.
a young center who is exactly what Tim Duncan has needed since David Robinson left
You mean someone that a healthy Ian could be? The other thing is that the league’s PF position has changed some and Duncan has become more suited to guarding opponent’s 5’s. This makes players like Haislip and Blair even more valuable than having a true center.
Also if the whole basis is money, then RJ is the worst contract on the roster and would need to be traded long before Tony. Tony is an all-star, 3 time champion PG. Maybe we should just trade RJ for some expiring contracts….you know, like the ones we willingly traded to get him.

Exactly. Sure he’s right in saying the Spurs don’t normally pay $10 million in luxury tax, but this year, in an attempt to remain a viable contender (which the author says the Spurs are not), the FO bit the financial bullet and is going for the whole enchilada. If they didn’t want to pay the tax, they wouldn’t have traded for RJ’s contract in the first place—a contract that, as you mentioned, is clearly worse than Tony’s or Manu’s.
Who says no to this:
Tony Parker and Ian Mahinmi to the Boston Celtics for Rajon Rondo, Brian Scalabrine, Bill Walker and Kendrick Perkins
I’ll assume this is question—despite the lack of the proper punctuation mark to signify that effect. Then I’ll go a step further and assume it is rhetorical—notwithstanding the “Complex Question” bent of this non-sequitur.
And then, I’ll raise my hand and say, “I for-fucking-one!”
Great.
Apparently you didn’t see the Celtics in the playoffs. Which, of course, is understandable since you probably stopped watching basketball by then.
Really? The playoffs continued even after San Antonio was eliminated?

Pfft…..lets trade Tony Parker for the PG whos own coach dislikes.
Makes great sense. The “uncoachable” Rajon would get along with Pop just fine. Lets pull the trigger immediately.
God Rajon is so overrated. He had one statistical ( yet remarkable) aberration of a season , and now every delusional/casual basketball fan thinks hes the second coming of Oscar Robertson…. lol.
I have a better idea.
Let’s trade Tony for the guy that wins this poll. That way, we’ll have numbers to corroborate our arguments.

Wow, somebody has the gall to propose that the Spurs trade Parker! What is this guy thinking?

If you didn’t read all of the comments the writer made in reaction to his readers’ comments … wow, it is just INSANE! The article+the comments=probably the worst basketball-related article I’ve ever read. I don’t think that is an overstatement.
Breakin’ it down (I’ll try to go easy on him):
First of all, we all know the Spurs would not do that deal, but at least both teams would be receiving some talent. He also makes a point about the younger guys’ salaries, i.e. Rondo. HOWEVER, once a reader pointed out you can’t trim $10M off the payroll so easily b/c of the NBA trade rules (contracts must be within 25% plus 100K), the author backtracks and says the Spurs could get the Celtics to pay Rondo’ s and Perkins’ contracts for the privilege of adding TP. Riiiight.
Second, he talks about the potential of Rondo and forgets that we don’t want to wait around for a starting point guard to develop when Duncan and Manu need guys that can help us win now. Granted, Rondo is very good and he can help any team, but Tony is simply better.
I could probably list a hundred things wrong with this article, but let’s just mention a few more:
-He said it is “laughable” to say Tony Parker is better than Devin Harris. Actually, if GMs, coaches, players, analysts, fans or whoever, were polled about those two players, I’m guessing TP gets 2/3 of the vote.
-He ranked Rajon Rondo and RJ as being better than Duncan and Ginobili (with Parker ranked above all four of them). I am not kidding (the only defense I give this writer is that he mentioned he was factoring in age and injury).
-He referred to Kobe as the “greatest player of all-time”
-He proceeded to list players he would rather have than Manu, or players he thought were better. As the list went on and on, I could not believe my eyes. Reading names like “LeBron James” or “Chris Paul,” I figured, “sure, of course.” Brandon Roy? OK. Carmelo? Maybe. When it came to Joe Johnson and Rashard Lewis, I disagreed, but at least had some respect for his opinions. But later, as I read “David Lee, Jeff Green, Al Thornton, Al Harrington, Thaddeus Young, Aaron Brooks,” et al, I really couldn’t believe my eyes. I wanted to hurl. I didn’t know if I should be angry with this writer of neophyte basketball knowledge, or if I should pity him and simply GOL at the unintended comedy.
-He makes a couple of xenophobic comments, including a reference to Manu as a “foreign prick who comes off the bench.” Actually, since he always called this player “Ginobli” it is possible he is talking about a player I have never heard of.
