Blair Pillages Your Village
So yesterday I saw rikkido's photos of our deadly rookie and, inspired by jalberto's amazing work, I decided to try my hand at this wallpaper thingie. As it was to be expected, my production... sucked big time.
I'm not at all happy about how it turned out - but hey, I'll take it as a learning experience and move onto the next one. We'll see how the next one goes. I thought I'd share it with you guys regardless, because maybe you'll get a kick out of it.
Oh, and blame the "Rebound demon" on ATS. Totally his idea.
Click on the image for the full sized version, or follow this link. It's 1280px x 1024px. Why? Because that's the resolution I use at work. And you know Blair can glare you into new levels of productivity.

awesome job, LatinD. Plenty of good space for icon placement which is a major problem on a lot of wallpapers. I just imagine Rebound Demon’s flames clashing with Gervin/Timmy’s Ice Thrown and the world ending in a deluge of steaming hot fire water (no, caphill, not that firewater, see the space between?)….
but then reborn a better place….
You should see if you like it more letter-boxed. You could start with solid black, but play with some filters and transparencies it if you like it. Just a thought.
Letter-boxed, BlaseE? What do you mean?

Wider than it is high the way a nice wide screen monitor is.
We have these things in the US called televisions. Their screens are square shaped. We also have these things called movie theaters. Their screens are letter shaped. I’ll show them to you when you get there. For whatever reason, we refer to the wide screen as letter-boxed.

I see, I see. As I said, I picked this resolution because it fits the monitor I have at work. I’ll see about making the next one in different resolutions.

Yeah, I kind of meant that, but what I really meant was adding a thick black horizontal bar over the image at the top and bottom. It is a good way of dealing with simple photoshop ideas without turning them in collages….in my opinion.
First picture I found on google:

and what I was saying is start with black like that picture but then play with making them transparent or distorting the fire underneath or whatever….I use it as a place for text a lot of the time too
I don’t see the picture, BlaseE.

But I think I know what you meant. Like a transparent black bar at the bottom where I could put things like “Pounding the Rock”, etc. etc.

From reading your post, you seemed unhappy with the end result but all of the photoshop you did was really clean and well done. I figured your problem with it was empty space or something like that. I was just curious if you would like it better if you letter boxed it.
….or maybe you are just a self-deprecating, never-satisfied-with-his-own-work artist.
Heh. No, I’m mostly dissatisfied because:
a) it wasn’t what I set out to do
b) I couldn’t get the text to look right
c) I’m never satisfied with my ’chops (is anyone?)
But I actually put all that empty space on purpose. It’s as you say: many wallpapers are so cluttered that they can’t be used as such.
Thanks for the suggestions, really.

Great job, David. The only thing that I think could make this better isn’t possible yet — and that’s to have Blair wearing the silver and black, in the act of actually snagging a rebound, and the flames swirling around him based on the way he looked like he’d moved in order to get the ball.
That’s it — oh and what would it look like if you took his eyes all the way down to almost completely black and added just the hint of glowing red? Ok, maybe not that, I don’t want to scare anybody.

Hm, I’ll give that a try tonight, but his eyes were pretty dark to begin with.

Or you could even put wings on him, along with some horns. Then maybe add a red tail. And some scorched earth behind him. And some other demons wearing suns or mavs jerseys wailing behind him.
In fact, you ought to just take Blair out and put a character of the devil on there, and take out all references to Blair.
(I’m mocking JRW, LD. It’s good work and I like it as is.)

I just caught your insult, Blase. :P After I had a beer. How ironic is that?

Insult is such a harsh word….I just think of you as our best and most dedicated drinker. It isn’t a bad thing.
At first I was curious why you hadn’t commented on it, and then I completely forgot about it.
Yeah, I was so insulted that I decided to never post here again. Oops – that didn’t work. We did go through 12 cases of beer at my company picnic today.

Context needed
12 cases is just a random number until we know how many people were helping to put that much away.

What do you want to bet that we’re talking single-digits?

About 40 adults, which works out to 4 drinks a person – not as bad as I originally thought. However, it’s more than we have drank in the past. I would know, as I’m the official APO – Alcohol Procurement Officer. I must not be as much of a lush as I thought.

Any way you rationalize it, 12 cases of beer for 40 adults is pretty stellar. Especially assuming that not everyone in a group that size drinks, or even drinks 4 each.
Kudos, Company-of-Cap, kudos.

Nice.
Blair looks pretty non chalante for a guy whos about to bathe his enemies in a torrent of soul searing hell-fire….what a smooth-criminal.*
*note: reference to Michael Jackson completely intentional.
Good point. He doesn’t seem to care much about acting tough. Like he prefers to let the wall of flames behind him do the posturing, while he just plays it cool hot.

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t think “Demon” when I look into his eyes at all; he just doesn’t have that tough look. Yet.

Blair’s as much a a demon as this guy is a “demon on wheels.”

See, I immediately thought something more like this.
Creepy, yes. But “demonish?” Not so much.

I’m up to my ears … in rebounds.
I just don’t think he’s creepy. Hmmm.
Besides, Snuggle doesn’t work as a nick for Blair. Keep trying. I need you working at the level of Pasture. Keep that kind coming.

Why is everyone talking about Phoenix today? sheesh.
Nice work, LD. But yeah, I use a widescreen at home(1680 × 1050), so a wider resolution would be nice. I might just cook something up myself, though.

Anyone have that sketch/drawing of Obi Wan Ginobili? I can’t find it anywhere.

Thanks
Thanks JRW.
Took a screenshot and hosted it.
