My Man Bruce

Just joined the "community" but have been following the Spurs since they first arrived in SA. Used to listen to them on the radio with Terry Stembridge (sp?), Anyway just a question to you all. Any word out there on whether we will be bringing back my favorite player, Bruce Bowen? Not only will I miss him on the court but just as much on the HEB commercials. Wtih both Bruce and Barry both gone those commercials won't ever be the same.

Maybe. Especially if we can strike a deal with Olympiakos and trade Bonner and Finley for Kleiza.

Don’t you think George Hill could be the next HEB star?

We specialize in misinformation around here. Facts and stats just get in the way.

DosXX, welcome to the community.

There have been some recent posts about Bruce and our feelings for him that you can peruse if you missed them the first time around. Most, if not all, of us here would love to have him back on the roster. But it’s not looking much like that’s going to happen.

Sad to see the era ending — both his work on the court for SA and the HEB commercials,

No Bruce is not coming back and that the sad reality of it. There were rumors he was starting to have trouble with the min Pop was giving him and was getting mad. Also he is 37 I think. I hope he does come back but I doubt it.

Does anyone remember the Sean Elliott Taco Cabana commercials? Are those on the internet anywhere, cause they would totally make my day.

Secondary question, I know LatinD was kidding but in theory could an NBA team trade players to a foreign team in another league or would that violate the collective bargaining agreement?

I’ve looked for them before with no success. I’ve also unsuccessfully tried looking for the TV segments Pop used to do with Elliott where they reviewed movies for NBC’s local news, I think. It was when Pop was an assistant coach though so pretty old stuff.

I don’t think players could be traded abroad. That would be kind of crazy.

We could sign the JV so he can do some funny comercials for HEB about him trying to make a layup.

Bruce could just retire and come back as an assistant coach… good way to guarantee that we retire his jersey (I don’t think he has to worry about that much, its in the bag IMO)… and he still gets a ring, no?

I’d be rooting for every other coach to be ejected to see if Coach Bruce would put himself in the game.

Not as a player...

Unless the Spurs:

a.) Trade in at least a 2-for-1 for somebody
b.) Cut one of their pickups (Hairston, Williams, or Haislip)

The Spurs already have 15 players on their roster so it’s not going to work. That being said, I think there’s also some disagreement between Pop and Bowen so they burned some bridges.
