I've heard very little regarding David Lee of late
Is it possible that he might consider an MLE deal? He is a good rebounder and works hard, he obviously doesn't space the floor and is not an ideal fit, but i'd certainly prefer him than a platoon of Gooden and Pachulia/Rasho.
He seems committed to defence, and whilst he might not have the range we require he would be a very handy big to throw into a rotation. His young and would be a banger you could rely on for a lot of years to come. I honestly don't see him doing it but no one is jumping out of their skin to offer the guy the kind of money he seems to have been after (around 9 -10 million per).
Obviously now that I have written this Adrian Wojnarowski will have some free agent buzz inking him to the warriors at 11 million per.

He wants to much. And he is also short.

Taller than Blair and Davis

True, but he’s still only 6’-9". Since I haven’t seen much of him play, is he capable of guarding 7-footers?

He played for the Knicks, so I doubt it.

He played for D’Antoni, so if he had any D in college, he probably doesn’t now.

his skills are exceptionally good D' rebounder
high % shooter (simply because he never really takes bad shots).
however he doesn’t really block shots and he is only solid Defensively in terms of man to man.

high % shooter because most of his shots are layups/putbacks.
can run the pick and roll, but not the pick and pop.
no perimeter d.
post d is suspect.
help d isn’t there.
doesn’t block shots
his rebs # are a little inflated due to the fast paced d’antoni system

his rebound numbers are actually pretty good
again i was talking about the things he did well.
The % of rebounds available that he grabs on Defensive glass is excellent. Really really good. As to the shot blocking, fab never really blocked shots, or hit anything from anywhere apart from layups.
Lee plays better D than that and rebounds better.

Can we get McDyess and Childress and call it a day
Or Marion failing one of those two

I don't really want Marion
Not a very good defender. I’m still waiting on Dyess

I thought Marion was always heralded as a great defender

Pretty much reputation alone. He did have some good games in a Scottie Pippen role, guarding a few smaller guards/point guards a few years back, and the press pumped him up because of it.

I also think that Marion is a good defender.

Lee could help a LOT in one area of need: rebounding. Problem is, he cant defend a PTRer much less an nba player. Sorry but the guy sucks on defense. He is a double double machine yes, but I would prefer a less offensive player, maybe with worse rebounding prowess but who can defend to help timmeh avoid though matchups.

you sir are a cad and a bounder
apparently he may take the qualifying offer from the knicks.
Why not offer him the mid level for 1 season, gives him a shot at playing for a contender and he fills the rebounding need.
We have timmy as a front court scorer and plenty of other guys who can put up numbers round the perimeter?

in answer to my own question
because he is a restricted free agent you wanker. Thus you tie up your money while the knicks pants about before saying welllllll yes i will resign this guy for 5.6 million and thanks for making life easy for Donnie Walsh and his travelling pistoleros.

Still Better Options
He is a servicable, (At Best) fit for the Spurs. He still doesn’t solve the problem of the size we need to add. We need a big 6’ 11"+ guy who can gaurd and be gaurded by the opposing center, giving Timmy more mismatches on offense.
I think a trade involving some our expiring contracts (summing to about $9 milly) is a much better offer. It opens the door to alot more, and better players.

I think we just need a guy who can guard opposing bigs
Most of the 2nd bananas that the spurs have had during title runs have not been enormous humans on an NBA scale.
K.T Gave some very serviceable minutes last year and he is more around the 6-9 mark. Fab likewise is more around 6-9 and was very serviceable.
I agree with you though i’d love some really big long intimidator. I just don’t think that guy is out there atm. If it does come via trade it would have to be from a team desperate to shed salaray. I just cant think of anyone at present.
So yeah..in essence i agree lol.

David Lee is incredibly overrated
by Knicks fans. I read the boards over at Knickerblogger, and they want to marry the guy. The stats prove how “good” he is.
He sucks on defense (if you want to see how bad, the Seven Seconds or Less website has a video dedicated to him not switching on defense) and is basically Cedric Ceballos on offense. And back in the day I used to hear people argue that Cedric should get more shots, too, because he was such an “efficient scorer.” Uh huh.
I think even his rebounding is questionable. Somebody’s got to get some rebounds, and the Knicks were poor overall compared to other teams…

I like Lee, but its real that he is a bit overrated. After all he played on a D’Antoni team where NOBODY likes to rebound.

I think there is something to say about the fact that he is not getting any offers whatsoever. He is essentially going to have to take the qualifying offer from the Knicks….
