The Hedo Has Landed... in Toronto
"Hedo Turkoglu has reached an agreement in principle to join the Portland Trail Blazers, according to sources." - Henry Abbott ESPN
EDIT: He changed his mind, and he's going to Toronto. Watch out, NBA!

Does this really make Portland a contender? I always think of Hedo as a loser from his days in Sacto.

It’s better than nothing, but I thought they should have made a run at Ariza rather than Turk.

I think Portland already has all the pieces in place to be a contender in a couple of years. A few tweaks here and there might help them.

Bad move in my opinion. The blazers are a terrific offensive team. They dont need more offense. Batum/Outlaw was a fine combo.

Lets take back Batum!
It’ll be French Central here, someone needs to replace SpurNando.

Tukoglu’s forte isn’t scoring so much as it is clutchness. And they have Roy, who’s pretty damn clutch. So why?

Uhhh, apparently the Hedo has NOT landed. So either BSPN is wrong, or the local news in PDX is wrong.

Wow, crazy that he changed his mind on that deal. Isn’t 56 million in Toronto less than 50 million in Portland because of the higher income taxes in Canada? Or at least doesn’t that make it not much more than the Portalnd salary? He had a chance to sign with a team that is an up and coming contender, and chose Toronto instead for not really much difference in pay.
Portland wanted to run the pick and roll with Oden and Hedo, just like Hedo did so well down in Orlando.
As far as Batum and Outlaw go, had they picked up Hedo, Outlaw probably would have been the odd man out. They would have looked to trade him if possible. I am sure they want to keep Batum since he is such a good defender. They might have even wanted to keep Outlaw for depth, but the minutes probably just would not be there…especially with Rudy clamoring for more minutes and a bigger role as well.

In the past, European players have liked the more international vibe of Toronto. However, as you say, Portland is not far from being a contender, but Toronto is. I’d want a ring.

With the way Hedo’s acted from the moment the Finals ended, I’ve gotten the feeling from him that he’s more about the money than anything else. Title included.

i am a huge fan of outlaw’s game. one of the leagues most underrated if you ask me.

He is a very good defender, but he hasn’t grown that much offensively and he can be a decidedly un-clutch shooter. I’d love to have him on the Spurs though.

2yrs ago he broke out on a young portland team. it was him and roy closing out games. last year batum and rudy took his minutes and touches, and roy put up allstar numbers, so his numbers took a hit.
by FreshmakerDTM on Jul 4, 2009 12:03 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
His numbers actually look pretty good right now compared to 2 seasons ago and he actually averaged more minutes than ever before. I live in Portland so I see the Blazers play fairly often. He just does not seem to play well on offense when the pressure is on.
He is still a young player though so he has plenty of room to grow.

I'm sorry but...Everything in your comment is the opposite of the truth.
He is the worst defender on the team, he has made tremendous strides in his offensive game, and he is very very clutch

Powe?
I dunno if anyone’s ever mentioned it or not, and feel free to shoot me right down, but what about Leon Powe for the Spurs? He’d be some help. I think he’d be a banger, hauled down 5 boards in 17 mins, 7.7 points, last season and has a career FT% of roughly 70%- sounds like he’s on the right track. He had an ‘09 salary of $797,581. Don’t get me wrong, he’s definately not the answer down low but he’s already had a taste of one championship, and might be looking for a small raise. Boston can’t make their mind up on him, it seems (pending Sheed, I’m sure.) I believe he was injured for these past playoffs? (Or was the Perk?)

Someone is gonna get a very productive season out of sheed….
Last season, he was unmotivated…
In addition , hes going to be well rested. He only played four postseason games…..
( Not to mention inspired to be playing with a contender)

thats a relief
the last thing we need is Portland to get any better. On espn the otherday they were saying that Hedo’s wife is very fond of Toronto, plus they can pay him almost six million more

not to mention the maple syrup costs are vastly lower

If you find Canadian Maple syrup too expensive (and I do) then go for a Vermont brand.
Just as good if not better.
