Quick Poll: IF we need any help, where do we need it most?
We've acquired RJ, drafted Blair, signed McDyess. Here's a simple quick poll for possibly one, two or three future polls (but I make no guarantees). I know we're stacked down low, but what about the other positions? If we had to make another move this offseason, or pick up another free-agent, or two, what position would you, the PTR loyal, recommend most? (I'm not very good when it comes to the cap and what kind of funds we have to work with, so if this is not even an option...) Do we need another Guard, Forward or Center? Or are we set to go? Drop some more names? Comment.

A defensive-minded SF would be nice. Maybe Hairston is that guy, but I’m not convinced yet.

Guard
If Tony or George gets hurt, I don’t want Mason to be our point or Manu to have to up his minutes. I don’t know who that would be though.

Yeppers. That’s what I voted for, too. Trading Bonner for a serviceable 5th guard would be ideal, in my opinion.

good looking out. We indeed have only two point guards. They will have to get at least one more before the start of training camp, methinks.

Unless they’re counting on Williams.

Rik…ive heard he played PG in the NBDL….but i think Point in the NBA would be a stretch for him…

actually…it could work. If its just because of injuries then the team is still good enough to work with him at the point. It’s just crazy enough to work!!! mwahahaha

My first post on PTR was defending the JV, sort of. You know he holds the record for most assists without a FGA at like 11.
The post was on this Welcome new readers story that anyone who is new should probably read.
No, but seriously, let the guy go coach or something.

yea he’ll be a coach. Probably end up as Pop’s replacement (less its Timmy)

+1
13 points in 39 seconds. Enough said.

Manu can play the point.
But I would not mind adding another pg. Lindsey Hunter via trade

The Bulls resigned just resigned him for 1 year. I don’t think I’d mind seeing him with us, though. He might want a 3rd ring (with a 3rd team)…and he plays defense.

Tough question.
We undoubtedly took a step back in defense when Kurt Thomas left. Im not saying Mcdyess isnt a good Defender, but is he as good as Kurt was?
Ya know what doesnt sound too bad? A trade for Marcus Camby. I dont want to have to rely on Ian Mahinmi or Theo at the Center position…
HOWEVER,when all is said and done, David Robinson was the center on only two of the spurs title teams….
The other centers were Nazr Mohammed in 05 and Fabricio Oberto in 07…
So it has been demostrated that we have big men on this team that are at least comparable to those two… (Furthermore, the clippers would try and gouge us for George hill in a Camby trade )
We lost Bruce. Now i realize he was relegated to like -10 minutes per game, but when we needed spot shutdown coverage, my man delivered every time….
Umm. I would love a Raja Bell, or Shane Battier but it doesnt look like we are going there.
So to answer your question ..i really think we will be fine with the current roster. Anything else we get will be icing. And with bargaining chips like the expiring contracts of FInely , Red Rocket and Theo….that icing can easily be added.

we don’t HAVE to make any moves but i vote for a center that can clear up the big man situation (one that we know what to expect from)

Center
I good, solid center (7ft +) would be the icing on the cake. Rebounding, Defense and can handle a pass from Timmy when double-teamed

I’d like to get another 7 foot C/PF we have DeJuan (6’7), Antonio McDyess (6’9), Theo Ratliff (6’10), Matt Bonner (6’10)
Maybe Andrew Bogut (we’d get more coverage in Aus if the Spurs had him)
or Nenad Kristic from the thunder i’ve heard Pop wanted him in the past.

Interesting ideas, denso. And nice avatar. Haven’t seen that illustration in a while.

I want my Manu o;—-)

Bogut? we can’t steal another player from Milwaukee in one off season, can we? He had major back issues last year. Back pains don’t go away.
Krstic? Thunder probably want to see what a full year with him at the 5 will do for them.

Hibbert from Indiana? I see the other Gasol mentioned on here a lot too although I’m not sure how tall he is.

((not that I like to give us deadlines...))
But, I think I’ll leave this poll open until midnight tonight (central time), and from whichever position is leading by then I’ll post a poll/list of the available free-agents at that position from the lists available on nba.com. Fair enough? :-)

i say we need a wing defender. sf g, it doesnt matter. we need someone who is willing and able to drop kick, take down and people’s elbow to shutdown opposing scorers.

Bowen, Battier, Bell and Posey
I say Bowen, he is the easier to get, but the question is does he want to return to the spurs??

…and who gets cut as a result?

m.williams or hairston
the other option is to wait until the trade dealine to see if we really need that defender.
by spursfan87 on Jul 29, 2009 9:22 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
im not really sure how promising williams and hairston look, but if either gets cut in favor of any of those four you mentioned above, it would be an improvement.
by theonlyromeo on Jul 29, 2009 9:48 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
agreed. It will sadden me to see either of them leave though. Hairston with his solid performance and expectations that we have of him, and Williams, whom I am so enticed with and anxious for him to show me those PG skills of him. I say, that if we get one of those guys mentioned above, We should let go Hairston, since we’ll have enough perimeter back up defenders/spot up shooters. Keep Williams out of need to have a third string PG. Hairston will know that he’s gonna have Finley’s spot next year, no matter what.

I would really like James Posey in the spurs. I think he’ll fit perfectly with the spurs. He is a great defender, clutch shooter and the guy is a winner. Maybe the spurs can get him If the Hornets are sellers at the trade deadline.
