San Antonio Spurs Summer League: Game 4 - Postgame Discussion Thread
It would be easy to focus on the negatives of this game: Hill's sloppy play, Mahinmi's penchant for Summer League fouls and his one rebound in 16 minutes, Gist's flat jumper and his lack of handles. We could mention Blair's inefficiency in his first 17 minutes of playing time, the horrid free throw shooting percentage, the complete lack on interior defense throughout the game, or would-be-sharpshooter McClinton's abduction by pod people. We could call it an unmitigated disaster, we really could...
...What was my point again?
Oh, right! But we shouldn't. Instead, let's talk about Hairston's relative solidity, Blair's footwork, his work on the defensive glass (although it wasn't as good as the boxscore suggests) and his multiple "and one"s,Taylor proving he was a honest-to-goodness sorta-kinda not-NBA-level-but-hey basketball player, at least for a night. And of course remember McClinton's first and only triple, that shining jewel that will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Think of this post as a place for catharsis, and let it all out - after the jump.
The boxscore. I'm sorry you had to see this.

Seriously? George took 3 shots in 23 minutes? Do you think he was under orders not to dominate the game?

Poor Rikiddo, he drove 6 hours from Phoenix to watch that crap and now he’s on his way back.

ATS, before you hit the road to come home, you need to open a thread for road trip music suggestions. We have some serious musicheads on this site and I’d be curious to see what kind of playlists we could cook up for you.

I believe that is a good idea. Unfortunately, I don’t know that I could get them for myself before I left.

Songs about driving...
5 Stars:
Juliana Theory’s White Days: Not a real video but some fan’s. I’m not watching and would recommend the same. The song may be too slow for an endurance drive though.
Mae’s Skyline Drive: A fan’s photoslide to the song. The song is really great but you have to listen to it all because it really masters the slow-build. The louder you listen to it the better, as with most music.
Mae’s Crazy 8’s: More upbeat. Pretty silly lyrics but the song is 100 times better when driving. It even mentions smoke filled casinos.
Some Select 4 Stars:
Dredg’s Same Ol Road: Real music video from the band. This is an old song from their second album. Their 4th album came out a month ago and it will melt your brain and pour it into a crucible and return it to your head like a f’ing bullet. It’s EPIC!
Journey’s Wheel in the Sky: Everyone needs a little Journey.
The Format’s Faith in Fast Cars: This acoustic is absolutely incredible. If you listen to one of my 8 suggestions, listen to this one.
Beatles Nowhere Man: Not about driving but a great driving song
Copeland’s Grey Man: Copeland is my absolute, no question, no debate, favorite band. This song isn’t about driving but maybe its about returning to Austin and Mrs. ATS. The video is decent too. My favorite Copeland song is Love Affair though. The trumpet at the end is so good.

I read Copeland and thought of Aaron… Fanfare for the Common Man. It’s absolutely perfect for driving thru the magnificence that is the great Southwest.
Anything by Tito & Tarantula… love them. They’ve always had a very Southwest/Desert/Tequila vibe. Here’s Strange Face of Love.
and as you’re coming back into Texas, I always play this Chris Rea song. Not the greatest video, but a great song. Don’t watch, just listen. Not bad for a Brit.
Just a few of my road trip favorites… and I’m with Blase anything by the Beatles works for me.

The weird thing about Copeland is that the lead singer and mastermind (especially on the newest record where he has even taken over more control) is named Aaron Marsh. Everyone always thinks of Aaron Copeland and they’ll say “Aaron?” and I have to think about it.
I wish I had listened to you and not watched…..
In high school, I was annoyed by McCartney as a person and declared a musical war on Beatles music and just recently admitted my stupidity and ignorance and am basically playing catch up. My favorite Beatles song so far is You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away. I have like some 100 songs by them at this point but they have so much music. I’m always curious to other people’s favorite Beatles songs.
Favorite Beatles songs… how to choose? So much brilliant material in such a short amount of time. Here’s a few… I really love In My Life. It reminds me of a cherished friend who’s no longer here.
A Day in the Life. It’s so eclectic… quite wonderful.
Revolution is great. I hate that Nike co-opted it.
Twist & Shout. John Lennon was fighting a cold and his voice sounds raw, but I love it. This song just makes me happy.
Many more, but off the top of my head… there it is.
Oh… one more. I sing this to all the people I love on their special day. I don’t think they love it as much as I love doing it.

Don’t forget about Norwegian Wood. The harmonies and chord changes are sublime, and are worth the price of admission. But add the randomness of the lyrics and the rhymes, and you’ve got a keeper on your hands. Definitely a treat for the ears.

It makes me cry every time I hear it because it reminds me Mrs. ATS thinks of her dog she had when we met. It was their song.

How about Lennon chewing gum as this cut is being recorded?
Also, I can’t imagine Ringo looking less interested than he does here.

Dude…
I’m going to second anything that mentions Dredg. Same ’ol road is one of my fav’s, and it was on the gigantic MP3 CD I made for the road trip yesterday. I also had the entire new album on that CD, and you’re absolutely right about it – it rocked all the way through. Definitely recommended.
I’d also recommend Secrets are Sinister from Longwave. Shining Hours is a personal favorite.
And from the really obscure department, I’d go for something by Carpark North or Dúné. Danish bands that don’t get any play on this side of the pond.

It’s probably caused by Blair’s anger at his team’s defeat.

I guess it was about time for them to have an off game. I did not watch but I bet it was the game equivalent of a big league Spur third quarter…
