"The deal has been agreed to in principle and is expected to be finalized Thursday, according to sources. Cleveland will send Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic to Phoenix for the future Hall of Famer."

...What? Shaq for Ben Wallace? What the hell is Kerr thinking? The road to the 2009/10 championship just got tougher, guys.

(And people complained about our trade.)

How many GM’s who were formerly Spurs are going to fall for this guy? I mean, Cleveland isn’t giving up a lot, but they’re not getting a lot either.

I think There still about as good as they were a sesaon ago. This trade dosnt make them that great of a team. Plus they gave up a good bench player to. SO that less of a bench for them to.

You guys are mental. Ben Wallace was a mummy last season, an absolute waste of a roster spot, and Pavlobrick was a bench player. Shaq had a ginormous (wink) season, his best in the last 3 or 4 seasons. Who can stop a James-Shaq-Ilgauskas frontcourt?

Not the Spurs as they are now, that’s for sure.

I think SCS meant that as a question or was being sarcastic. It is an imposing frontcourt but to me we don’t look any worse against it today then we did 3 days ago….

Did we really just add a player good enough to be guarded by Bruce Bowen?

wow big D is wrong in this one. A frontcourt of Ilgauskas and Shaw would be so easy to score on. And Lebron would fall asleep waiting for the 2 plodding centers to get in to post position.

that’s true but shaq is not the answer at this point. He slows the offense to a crawl, and he demands the ball (taking it away from lebron). He is not the scorer he once was. He is an above average center (and he deserves praise for that, at his age not many players can bring a lot to the table) but shaq is not willing to do the small stuff that wins championships (like concentrate on rebounding and defending). The big snaq still thinks he is a franchise center and that the offense needs to revolve around him. Just look at the suns last season.

Points from Charley Rosen
-Shaq will be 38 before next season’s playoffs.

-Shaq is injury-prone.

-Although he’d be able to out muscle Dwight Howard, Shaq is otherwise a poor defender because of his extremely limited lateral movement.

-Slower than ever off his feet, Shaq is likewise a poor rebounder and shot-blocker.

-Because of his miserable career performances at the stripe, the ball would have to be kept away from Shaq in clutch situations.

-As he gets slower afoot and more and more floor-bound, he’ll be in ever-increasing foul trouble.

-He would be (and is) all but useless in defending high screen/rolls.

-With Shaq clogging the paint, there’d be precious little room for LeBron James’ powerhouse drives. In fact, the presence of Shaq would mostly limit LBJ’s offense to the most inefficient aspect of his game: his jump-shooting.

"We suck on 'D. Both individually and team-wise, we suck. We're pretty consistent that way. I don't know if I have an answer to that. If I did, we wouldn't suck quite so bad." - Popovich

All of which means that the Magic would be wise to pick & roll the Cavs to death with Shaq on the court

I mean,I don’t really understand any of this, but criticizing this trade on Uncle Charlie’s say so is not my cup of tea.

That being said, I think this is a terrible trade, and have told the Cavs fans so. They don’t, predictably, like me right now.

I’m totally with LD on this one. I think those who think this is a failed trade are comparing Shaq to his oldself instead of comparing Shaq to who the Cavs traded for him. Ben Wallace as we know can’t play a lick of offense and at this point in his career he doesn’t seem to care about or is unable to play the kind of defense that makes him effective. Pavolvic hardly contributes. Shaq still demands a double team and if there is ever a time he will be motivated it is now. For one he just got traded and that usually gets him pumped up. And 2 Kobe just won a champion shipt to tie them up at 4 a piece. Shaq knows this is probably the best chance he’ll have to get one more chip and if has a season anything close to last years it’s crazy talk to say that the Cavs won’t benefit from this trade.

no question their offense will benefit. But what Shaq giveth on offense, he taketh away on defense. He’s easy to exploit – this might give Cleveland a more favorable matchup with Orlando, but there are other teams they’ll have to deal with.

Cleveland will never make it out of the East with “The Big Disappointment”. You can pick & roll Shaq to death but you don’t even need to get that fancy. Dwight Howard, KG / Perkins (or any reasonable center really) can rebound the ball on D then sprint to the front of the rim for a lob pass before Shaq can make it past half court.

Plus I can’t wait to see LeBron try to maneuver around that big clod. To me the Cavs just bowed out of contention.

I believe Pops is putting retired Spurs in these positions to purposely ruin teams.

"We suck on 'D. Both individually and team-wise, we suck. We're pretty consistent that way. I don't know if I have an answer to that. If I did, we wouldn't suck quite so bad." - Popovich

I don’t think Stevie’s done. Nash and Amare may not be playing out here next year either.

A real PG would mean Lebron’s assist stats would dip.

Magic and the Nets

Are close to a trade that would send Carter to Orlando.

That sounds like they are giving up on the Turk…

I know I gave the Big Ego a couple of nicknames earlier, but I don’t think this trade helps Cleveland. He’s gonna clog the lane, not defend pick and rolls and spend a majority of the season on the injured list. He’ll do all of that and then he’s gonna complain about not getting enough touches. You know that good time they had on the sideline during this past season, that s#!+ ends. By the time February rolls around, Mike Brown will have tire tracks on his back from the bus Shaq will roll him under. Mike, get that resume ready my dude, since you WILL NOT be winning a title in the 2010 season, get ready for another asst. coach job in the 2010-2011 season.

Well said, Dennard, well said.

We specialize in misinformation around here. Facts and stats just get in the way.

I say he shows some restraint and waits until his first week living in OH.
