Did we really miss something?
So after all the debate about the Jefferson trade we all agree that it was another great move by the Spurs FO. We are right back in the thick of things, and we only need to add a couple of bigs who can rebound and we are set to go.
But, then we have all these analysts saying that we missed on getting a big free agent in 2010, that we lost on a big oportunity to extend the spurs domination beyond Duncan's tenure. This is bullshit, like half the teams in the league are preparing themselves to be players in the 2010 market, and we all know San Antonio is not one of the most coveted places to land. Yes there are lots of good players to be had, but the franchise players would be long gone with the spurs fighting to get at best a borderline all-star. Just check the list, I put it in order from best to worst.
-Lebron James
-Wade
-Amare ( ETO)
-Dirk
-Michael Redd (possibly, he has a ETO)
-Nash
and also -Manu frikin ginobili
Better than Jefferson: Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Amare, Dirk, Joe Johnson..... (nash is old, and he will be like 37 by then)
That's 6 players, and a bunch of teams fighting for them. Did we really have a chance at any of them? Besides it would cost us the chance to compete in 09.
So all in all, i think this is an incredible trade, and there are no drawbacks. The 2010 free agent list is awesome, but not reallistic for the SPurs. The FO knew this, and I thank them for that.
(if anyone has more info or some detail to add to that list, it would be welcome)
Also, a poll:

Exactly. Although if LeBron had picked San Antonio, Stern might’ve melted into a puddle of goo. It’s sad to let that go.

not only are there not as many players as people think, some teams think they can land two of them………. I can’t wait to see a couple teams with $30 million dollar rosters paying for draft picks just to fill out their rosters so they don’t have to forfeit games.
Did we really just add a player good enough to be guarded by Bruce Bowen?
none
as I don’t see him going to New York. My personal opinion is he’ll stay in Cleveland. Why go from a good situation where you were nearly in the Finals and were in the Finals in 07, to an abysmal situation in New York where you would have an even lesser supporting cast. Cleveland will do whatever it take for him to stay in Cleveland.

I’m not sure if I agree about Cleveland.

The biggest slap in the face these supposedly “open in 2010” salary cap-clearing teams can get is if at least half of these 6 franchise players sign extensions this upcoming season. They’ll then be saying to themselves, “Well… our team has over $40 million in cap space and no marquee free agent to sign, might as well overpay an old Ray Allen to a maximum 5-year deal. Whoopee.”

Good call, I agree and think that IS going to be the downside and the overlooked consequence of ’10.

I dont know why some people said this jefferson trade was bad. He been know to play his best deffensive when he not the main optioin to socre. At times he be asked to though. We could even sighn back 2 of the guys we traded. Also do you really think we have a cahnce even at bosh? A good point to about more than half the teams in the nba getting ready for the 2010 free agent class.
