James Gist and Angelico Biella Advance

Seven seed Angelico Biella just upset Lottomatic Roma, the 2 seed, in game 5 to advance to the second round of the Italian league playoffs.

James had 13 and 4 as Biella overcome a late 3 point deficit to pull off the unlikely upset.  Their second round opponent will be the 6 seed Armani Jeans Milano who beat Banco Tercas Teramo in 4 games.

Go James.

Hmmm...

Is that a good game for him? Shouldn’t he be doing better if he’s NBA material? I don’t know what a good game over there is supposed to be, but that stat line doesn’t give me a lot of hope for ol’ James.

A swiss army knife type.

I really like that turn of phrase… maybe because we have the ultimate swiss army knife?

so what is the scoop with james gist? is it possible for him to be back in the NBA/with the spurs? or are we just following him because we like him? or could it be that we are just trying to pay some kind of wierd twisted homage to SiMA?

by bones on May 27, 2009 9:49 AM CDT reply actions

I’ll be the first here to admit that it’s really sad we all have to glean onto players like James Gist (Paging “Williams, Marcus,” “Mensu-Bonsu, Pops,” “Tolliver, Anthony,” “White, James,” etc.) for our hopes of excitement and success; realizing deep within that Pop and the FO are completely incapable of acquiring a proven talented player that will more assuredly expedite success.

That said, James Gist is the second coming. Of who, I’m not yet sure. But I’m still willing to give my spleen to see him in Black & Silver next year. We follow because we hope. We believe. In fact, we’re desperate with hopeful belief.

That’s only if you think “hopeful belief” is bad.

If I said, “hey, you look more beautiful everyday” and you said, “you’ve been hanging out with my wife too much”. Oh, nevermind.

I think what ATS is saying is that he could have meant, “You’re been hanging out with Bella too much to keep her hopeful belief from rubbing off on you.”

Now, there’s no way that’s what he meant, but it IS possible that he could have meant it.

yee-ouch

it was just that nobody seemed to know the answer to my question – or maybe you guys just weren’t telling.

honestly, i was just wondering the scoop on gist. there has renewed interest in him, but i never did know why. i must have missed it. i assumed that there could be a chance of his return given the interest – but never really saw or heard it officially……..but now, it appears thast there is a chance.

and if its coming from ATS, that’s official in my book.

and double-ouch….i said banner instead of banter…..which i was subsequently made fun of for. dang, i suppose that could be considered cuban-esque in some circels…….thank god i didnt speak to anyone’s mother.

I believe that a couple of guys (SiMA and Scrappy-doo, I believe) fell in love with Gist during last year’s summer league games. And once they got on that bandwagon, they just never let go. Some people are like that. However

Thanks, SiMA. You were one of the first people to really make me feel welcome here.

Now that you mention it, I do miss the bearded Pop avatar that ATS used to sport once upon a time. Ah, those were the good old days. The Spurs would win championships, we had Powell and Stampler and — wait a second. You got me reminiscing. I can’t believe it. (fast forward to 1:40)
