Poll: Cavs vs. Magic

The Cleveland Cavaliers zoomed through the regular season with an NBA best 66-16 record (the same as last year's defending NBA Champion Boston Celtics). They really have yet to be challenged in this years playoffs, cruising through both Detroit and Atlanta in 8 easy wins. Lebron James won his first Most Valuable Player award. Will this be the year he brings an NBA Championship to Cleveland?

The third seeded Orlando Magic (59-23), like the LA Lakers, have not had an easy path to the Conference Finals. They edged the 76ers in 6, in a fairly entertaining first round series, and put the defending Champion Boston Celtis away in 7 games. Dwight Howard joined Lebron James on the All-NBA First Team, led the NBA in both rebounding and blocked shots, and was voted Defensive Player of the Year. Can he carry the Magic to the promised land?

Should be a good series, but I don’t see the Magic having enough this time.

Turkoglu will probably defend Lebron…. Is there any doubt who is going to the finals? Besides I see the Cavs dominating the glass, you read it here first.

If wishing could only make it true....

Am I “tilting at windmills”? Yes, I am.

But… I’m going to stick with Magic in 6. The underdog has gotta win sometime… right?

Who wins:

Brian Stokes Mitchell?

or Bryn Tercel?

And I know it’s a different approach, but given what he went through, and the angelic quality of his voice in general, the Luther Vandross version kills me. KILLS me. I’m not even going to listen to it, ‘cause it’ll make me verklempt.

by Lauri on May 19, 2009 3:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Seems that your “Tercel” link goes to O’Toole’s 1972 film version, with Sophia Loren. There’s one of Terfel here. Is that the one you mean?

As far as the entire performance goes (not just vocals) then I actually like O’Toole’s. He actually looks like he’s borne unbearable sorrow. And for all that, I don’t mind the rough-around-the-edges quality of his singing voice.

If we’re judging vocals alone, then I prefer Mitchell. There’s a bit of a “by the numbers” feel to Terfel’s that puts me off a tad.

Yep, I mixed up my links — you got them spot on!

by Lauri on May 19, 2009 9:00 PM CDT up reply actions

I’d probably go with Mitchell, too. O’Toole is able to sell it because of the acting… that’s what makes his version great.

That’s a nice version by Luther, too.

Lauri, I think I’ve glanced the verklepmtness.

Cavs in 5. The Magic’s mental lapses will kill them versus the healthier, better team.

I chose Cavs in 5 before I looked at the thread. I feel smug now, knowing I am in good company.

“chuckle” ….poor cavs……

Though i really believed the magics success against cleve in the regular season was no fluke….i still picked them to beat orlando in 7…

this does not look good for cleveland.

Stil, it would be great if Orlando won the title…..heres my rationale..

If LA wins the title ( need i say more? No ,but im gonna) this will crown them the best team of the decade, knocking off San Antonio. SO we dont want them to win…

Bostons gone. Excellent. They wont be threating san antonios legacy for the decade.

The nuggets….it would just suck if they won the title. Chauncey billups annoys me with the way he calls himself “Mr. Bigshot”…..last time i checked, most cool players with a nickname did not feel the need to create theyre own nickname, and constantly refer to themselves by said nickname. ( He only did it a couple of time, but that was enough)Jason Terry , I hope your reading this )

Cleveland….they are far too full of themselves. Id like nothing more than a premature end to that stupid ,asanine, retarted group photo thing they do before the game…i also find MIke Brown a tad annoying…yea, even though hes Spurs FO alumni.

Orlando…Dwight Howard is very likeable. And a bonus would be they would not come close to touching San Antonios legacy.

So there you have it. We all need to run out and buy Rashard Lewis jerseys…..

by alamobro on May 21, 2009 12:26 AM CDT reply actions

I joined Bellasa in voting for Orlando, but went for Magic in 7. I’m not quite the risk taker she is ! Same reason, like to pull for the underdog. Checked the game out in the second quarter, thought ah, poor Orlando. Glad I stuck with it to the end. What a finish, this Magic bunch are tough. Loved seeing Turk smiling as he came on the floor after the last two time outs.

Do I really think they will pull it off…nope, but I’m going to pull for them anyway.

Timmy D .... enough said.
