Poll: Lakers vs. Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are making their first Western Conference Finals appearance since 1985, and have gotten here relatively easy. In the first round they faced the New Orleans Hornets, who laid down in 5. The Mavs keeled over in the second round, also in 5.

The defending Western Conference Champion Lakers have not had as easy of a return to this stage. They had a fairly easy time with Utah in the first round, winning in 5 games. The semi-finals were not as good to the Lake Show, as they were pushed to the limit by the injured Houston Rockets, eventually winning the lop-sided series in 7 games.

Game 1: Lakers 105, Nuggets 103    Box Score

Game 2: Nuggets 106, Lakers 103    Box Score

Game 3: Lakers 103, Nuggets 97    Box Score

Game 4: Nuggets 120, Lakers 101    Box Score

I like the meteorite to make justice. But meteorites are random bitches. So ill go with Denver in 6. We saw what a couple of 6’7 burly forwards can do to the lakers frontcourt. Denver has a couple of good bigs and Nene is playing like a madman possesed.
Kobe will be relieved to see a guy like Duantey Jones after fighthing against the two headed monster of Battier and Artest (yes Battier counts as two heads) but still the denver guard will only be asked to run Kobe for 30 minutes. Melo can be bothered by Odom and Ariza. But to me the deciding factor is Billups. There are like 35 chris pauls between him and Fisher/Farmar.
I hate the lakers team. I hate denver. But denver has Chauncey, a man who deserves all my respect…… (still im investigating a lot about meteorites)

This is so difficult, because on one hand I really really hate Denver. They’re pompous, arrogant, thuggish, selfish, they’ve built a franchise playing the game the wrong way, they’re perpetually horribly overrated, badly coached, they have terribly uneducated and bandwagon-driven fans, they’re uniforms are stupid-looking, and they’re badly managed.

On the other hand, there’s the lakers. I don’t have even close to enough finger dexterity to type all the reasons why rooting for LA is bad. I’m choosing to simply root against the lakers, and not for anyone. Basketball is dead to me now. And nothing really matters since it’s only a matter of time before “Stern/Kobe/LBJ Finals 2009” tips off anyway.

Plus I fear that the shock waves from a potential Pepsi Center-destroying meteor could damage my siding and break some northward-facing windows, and I don’t need that chit.

That’s exactly why you should be rooting for a Magic/Nuggets finals. That’s probably Stern’s worst nightmare.

I agree with both of you, hard to pull for either one but…..because a Nuggets/Magic match up would cause Stern to keel over, I’ll go with that. That and the fact that if the Lakers were the last basketball team left on earth, I wouldn’t be a fan. Nuggets in 7.

Would like to see Orlando take it all. I like LeBron, he has incredible talent but me thinks he needs a little humility. Tried to explain the difference between passion for the game/class/good sportsmanship and arrogance/showboating/being a Kobe to the little one yesterday when she watched the Houston/Laker game with me.

Timmy D .... enough said.

Man, I’d be all for a Magic/Nuggets Finals. But… I believe Stern had his worst nightmare with the 2005 Spurs/Pistons ratings bust, even though it was a 7 game series!

actuallly

I think Denver/Cleveland would be just as bad from a ratings standpoint. As long as the Lakers aren’t there, the ratings will be terrible. Denver in 7.

I took the Lakers in six. Last year Boston got pushed to a Game 7 in the first round by the Hawks, then pushed to another Game 7 by Cleveland in the conference semifinals. Things seemed to work out all right for them last year, and I’m pretty sure they’ll work out all right for the Lakers this year. At least until they reach the finals.

lakers in 7.

the lakers are the better team. if they play like they want it, they would win this in 4 or 5. but they don’t, they lack focus, so denver will take 3 games.

i’d prefer denver to win though. unlike most people on here, i don’t have this almost violent dislike of the nuggets.

METEOR!!!!!

Until today, I didn’t really consider what it would be like to have to deal with another L.A. title. I never seriously thought it would happen. Not when they were way in the lead in the race for Western Conference home court, not when they cruzed past the Jazz, and certainly not when Houston took them to 7. But now that they’re in the Western Finals, how can I not contemplate it? Argh.

Arguahaaarrrgrrumbleachoooowwaaaaaaruuuugaaaaaahhhh!

Whew. I’m officially in “Anybody but the Lakers” mode. That even means being cool with the potential headline “Carmelo Anthony: World Champion”. Although, typing that just made my youngest spit up from the other room.

“Sorry, little guy.” The shame. “Daddy’s very sorry, but Manu will make it all better next year.”

I hate to add another choice, especially one thats better than then one a decent amount of us voted for, so my apologies…but jollyrogerwilco nailed it. Anyone but the Lakers. Spread the word, all!

well he looks friggin tired.

any team with a mega superstar-ish player (kobe,lebroom,d-wade) sometimes gets into a zone where they completely depend on the star to win the game for them.

team ball is different. which is why denver vs orlando actually thrills me to see that both teams for that matchup would require lots of team ball.

I'll snap yo neck like a twig if you sass me again. . .
