Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Kelly Dwyer from BDL says that he misses Bill Walton in these playoffs. I find Walton a funny idiot so I thought I'd search for his killer lines and got this 9-page thread.

He could've said, "Throw it down, young George Hill... throw it down" or "Throw it down, Pops". Oh, wait. He's not a Spur anymore.

I loved it when he’d commentate, was hilarious. also i’d respect his thoughts on the game alot more than the rest of the talking heads cause Walton played the game, and was incredible at the game.

“that was the worst “insert whatever happened” in the history of western civilization" is by far the most outrageous thing i’ve heard him say.

this also had me laughing.
Walton: That has to be a foul.
Snapper: Against who?
Walton: Against the game of basketball.

the Spurs do not defeat you so much as they grind you into tiny shards of psychological wreckage.

I don't remember any quotes verbatim

But the impression I had was something along the lines of:

“In order for [team A] to win, they have to score over 100 points, and hold [team B] to less than 100 points.”

As much as Walton could irritate me, I find myself really missing his enthusiasm. He’s a singular personality, for sure.

I cannot believe it did not even occur to me that Walton hasn’t been calling games! I’ve always thought Walton was a crazy guy, first off. But, he’s always been one of my favorite commentators. I am the only person that I interact with in person that feels this way. My best friend hates him. My grandpa hated him (but loved him as a player). It is nice to know there are other out there! Bill is excited. He’s passionate. He’s extremely knowledgable. Sure he may obnoxious at times, but he means well. He genuinely loves the game of basketball more than any commentator/ex-player I’ve ever heard. Walton’s seen and done it all. He is experienced, meaning he’s been on both ends of the stick. Won Championships, MVP awards, but also sat out nearly half his career with injuries.
I miss him too.

I too did not like Bill Walton. Just like several of you though I do miss him. He’s way better than a large number of the commentators we’re forced to listen. Especially Hubie Brown and Doug Collins, I can’t stand those guys.
