The guys from 48 Minutes of Hell (BTW if you're not reading on a regular basis you're doing yourself a great disservice) introduced me to Austin Nichols. He's young, he's humble, he can defend, and boy can he shoot. He possesses a sick catch-n-shoot motion similar to that of Rip Hamilton and Reggie Miller. We have a glaring need for a SF and he's coming to camp this summer. He is now on our radar and I want this guy on our roster. Here is the article from 48MofH.

There is a little problem here, though. We aren’t the only team that drafts from Europe, and we don’t pick until the 2nd round. If he’s as good as he seems, don’t hold your breath on seeing him in Silver and Black.

Austin is not from Europe. He’s just plays in Europe and he’s already seen time in the D League for 2 years. He’s not going to enter the draft. He’s hoping he can impress either Cleveland or SA in the summer camps.

I will admit intrigue after watching his Youtube mix.
But then I remembered that with the only proof of greatness being a Youtube mix, Mark Madsen is a certain HOFer. Nichols looks too much like Finley to me (since I have yet to see his “virus-like defense”), and the ringing endorsement of the great Daniel Horton doesn’t exactly leave me quivering.
But stranger things have happened. I mean, we actually played Pops for awhile, right?

I play hoops in the summer with this guy who currently plays for Hyeres-Toulon Var Basket of the French A League. dude usually starts showing up at my gym over the summer – in June. I’ll have to ask up about this new potential Spurs fella.
I’m always skeptical about these off the radar guys when it comes to baskeball, but his skills certainly seem compatible with what our Spurs seek – Sadly, Cleveland is now targeting the same kinds of guys. I noticed in the article that he is attending one of their camps as well.

Well if Cleveland is looking at him then that’s a vote of confidence on his game. I’d be more upset is Sac, the Clips and the Timberwolves were inviting him to camp.

Well everything sounds and looks good but I’m not on the bandwagon just yet. Playing against guys who are a step slower and a lead a notch lower (ooh good ryhme) will make some guys look better than they’ll be in the NBA. Even Manus international play highlights are Sicker than his NBA highlights. But what I do like about this Nicols guy is his shot has awesome form. Whether he is curling left or right his form is the same and he has good elevation on this shot. I like him but I’m not gonna say we should sign him just yet. But save me a seat next to JRW just in case.

i don’t know about his all-around game, but his catch-and-shoot coming off the curl looks very nice. and if he plays defense like it’s reported, then he’s a perfect replacement for Finley. i will be interested to see what he brings in camp.
