First round matchup
I was looking at the schedules of teams we might face in the first round trying to predict were teams will end up(with their seeding) and I ran across this poll on the Utah Jazz' website. I was flattered and shocked all at once to see that Jazz fans would rather face the Lakers in the first round than The SPURS. Do they want revenge? Are they really scared of a healthy Spurs team more than the Lakers? Or are Jazz fans just slightly sadistic?
I'm not sure if someone already posted a poll like this or if I just remember it being discussed in a game thread. Forgive me for the redundancy if this is the second poll of its kind but I'm curious....
Please note that the Suns were left out because they will not make the playoffs.

Im gonna go with mavs here not because it would warm my heart to tear theyrs out, but because i think they may be the easiest out in the first round.
I think it would be hilarious if utah drops to the 8th seed. They arent exactly the first round pushover that the lakers are hoping theyll be seeing.

oh I am praying the Jazz fall to 8. That would be amazing

Agreed.
The Mavs should be the easiest first round matchup, and YES, Utah falling to 8 would be sweet.
In life, generally speaking, there are Have’s and Have Nots. We all know which category the poor Mavs fall into.
They’re the Mav Nots?

Yea, Mavs or Moonmen. But we gave away our home court to the Moonmen, so…..Mavs.
And Pop said "Let there be Mace"; and there was Mace. And Pop saw what he had done, that it was good. But it was not a point guard, and Pop was blind to this.

With homecourt we can defeat any team. Last two seasons all the Spurs playofff losses at home have been crazy close and very much fluke like.
I’d prefer the Blazers in round one, and Nuggets in round two. Two teams that think they’re good, but not better than the Spurs.

I’ve changed my mind. The Nuggets are playing balls to the wall. I would much rather see the Mavs right now.
But even the Mavs are showing signs of life . . .
What’s scaring me is that (leaving the Lakers aside, because they have no worries other than trying to catch up with the Cavs for best record in the league), the other teams in the west have seen what is going on with the Spurs, and they seem to be responding. Everyone else is upping their game. They’re like sharks, circling . . . and we keep on bleeding in the water . . .

Indeed. But the spurs problems are an easy fix. no more vaughn. no more mace at pg. let hill back up tony. give fin slightly less minutes and bruce slightly more. done.

Deja vu?
but there’s no guarantee that any of that will happen as we want it to
ahhh, there’s nothing for it but to wait and see what the real season brings.
The best I can say is that we had very similiar fears and issues at the end of last season (and besides the Sickness’ injury) that went fairly well

Mavs or Rockets
Both choke during the playoffs, and both are an hour plane ride from SA. Having a close first round opponent will ensure 1. No jet lag 2. More Spurs fans in the visiting arenas. Naw’lins is also close but they always play us tough and last time we played them the team had to sleep on the runway after game 7, so I’d rather not see them.

I forgot to mention that it’s imperative that we stay away from the 4th, 5th and 8th seeding. These “lucky” spots get the Lakers in either the first or second round.

Although it seems like the Spurs will have to get past the Lakers to get to the finals. And the Lakers bench is struggling now and it might be easier to get past them in the early rounds before Bynum gets back and into shape.
I’m just sayin.

Our entire team needs time to get into shape.

Some over @ Mavsmoneyball think we’ll be a first round exit this year.
