Around SBN: Miikka Kiprusoff Wins 300th Game, Buffalo Crushes Boston

This series is about to get CRUNK.

"Parker got into the teeth of our defense and caused problems. Every time he drives the lane, we have to put him on his back. The first foul has to tell him he's in for a long night. My first foul Thursday night is going to put him on his back. I guarantee it."
-- Erick Dampier

That was a great win last night. It was so nice to see our guys hustle and play suffocating defense. Tony was amazing. This season he has taken his game to new heights that I don't really think any of us saw coming. Now it's time to put this one behind us and get prepared for game 3. Erick Dampier has already issued an APB on Tony Parker's head. WE BETTER BE READY FOR THIS. I'm not about to pay good money to go see our boys get bitched around by Erick Dampier. Last night had little moments of chippiness with a couple of hard fouls on Tony. We need to come out swinging and beat the Mavs to the punch. I want to see us physically impose our will on the Mavs like we do the Suns. We could deal a significant blow to the Mavs' psyche if we walk in and physically wrestle game 3 away. We need to put these guys on tilt.

This is the moment we’ve waited for, PtRers. For such a time as this, we’ve anticipated great things. The opportunity is upon us. Seconds wane as our moment looms.

It’s time for Ime Udoka to coldcock a bitch.

It seems pretty dumb to announce that you are going to foul someone hard; just go and do it. It’s like he’s begging to get ejected after his first foul. One can only hope that the league is paying attention, and that the refs are quick on the draw with the flagrant fouls.

I love when players do this though. Premeditated nationally announced flagrant fouls. It’s actually wonderful for us because he so much as touches Tony, and he’s gone. And with his stifling defense of the paint removed, Tony will be able to………wait………whoops.

I wish what you were say was true Sima, but we’ve seen the Sonics and the Nuggets in different seasons do the same thing to Manu (announce their intention to foul hard, then follow through) with nary a consequence.

by pollackj on Apr 21, 2009 11:01 AM CDT up reply actions

True about Manu, but the refs seem to view Tony’s forays into the paint differently than Manu’s. Manu has the reputation of a “flopper” – Tony doesn’t. I’m not saying those perceptions are correct, but Tony seems to get more respect from the refs. Not that Stern will do a damn thing about these statements, since it’s only the Spurs.

This series will only get more physical as it goes on. Things were already getting chippy in game 2. I can only imagine if Dallas gets down 10+ at home. Bodies will be flying.

None of this is surprising. Damp is a thug who can’t keep up with Tony’s quickness so he’s going to try to intimidate Frenchie McWonderbutt. I don’t think it will matter. Parker has been getting beat up for years now. He understands it and hopefully will make Dallas pay with made free-throws and foul trouble for their bigs.

by Big50 on Apr 21, 2009 11:14 AM CDT reply actions

The Mavs just beam with class all around.

Terry and Howard shooting their mouths off about fouling Manu, Dampier talking about fouling Tony. How about an automatic flagrant? What an ass. We’ll go the ’We’re down, so the only way to get back in the game is to play dirty.’ That’s something I’d expect from the Lakers.

This is what’s wrong with the NBA today.

I expect Damp to throw his body around to try and hurt people. I expect a few more Terry elbows. I expect Howard to shove and punch.

At least two technical fouls in the next game. At least…

Let’s face it.

It’s the NBA.

It’s the playoffs.

As far back as I can remember, come playoff time, layups and dunks become harder to come by. Not only because of the increased defensive intensity but also because of the willingness to give the hard foul in order prevent any easy buckets. In the playoffs, you have to work harder for it. Of course if you don’t even bother to go for the ball or worse yet, intentionally try to hurt another player, ejections, fines and or suspension should be enforced, but a more physical play is to be expected.

That being said, if these thugs cross the line (ala Juwan Howard’s take down of Derek Anderson a few years back) Ime and or KT will need to step up relaliate.

Eye for an eye I always say

I fully expect the Spurs and whoever we play to lay their fair share of hard fouls. Hopefully no one gets hurt and may the best team win.

Dallas center Erick Dampier is “under review” by the NBA for promising to put Tony Parker “on his back” in Game 3 of the teams’ first-round series.

According to SA.com

Wonder how this is going to roll out…

Hope this is not a “bait and switch” move by the Mav d’bags…. Refs need to focus on all of them, not just Ericka!!!!
