Manu and the Olympics

I wanted to address couple of issues fans constantly bring up when it comes to Manu.

  •  How, with TD being the window, could Manu not have been more careful about this health and irrationally went and played in the Olympics.
  •  How he has managed to ruin this season by hurting his other leg which, many argue, is a by product of overcompensating for his initial injury.
My thoughts are nothing new and most of us have voiced similar opinions here and in other forums already but I thought I will write a fanshot nonetheless instead of scattering my thoughts all over the interweb on various forums.

Star-divide

Manu seems like a simple guy. From the day he's been in SA, whatever he has said has been simple. Mostly its things like "I didn't play hard enough. I didn't give enough of myself. I could have done better. I will do better next game. I can play smarter next time. Timmy makes the game easier for all of us." etc. So when Manu says docs cleared him, I simply believe the guy instead of looking for dastardly plans to show Spurs fans how much the team will miss him.

If less than ten games in the Olympics caused the first injury and broke whatever, you can bet 82 regular season games would have done it for sure. And then if the second injury happened because of the first(I think its because of all the mileage up until this point eventually causing a stress facture with maybe the previous injury hastening it a bit, who knows) then we probably looking at a time frame stretching probably into next season for Manu to recover from it all if the first had happened in the regular season. This way, everything is done and now hopefully next season is enough time to get his body feeling good.

Its weird how as a fan anyone can ask more of Manu. What else is left to give. One of the most common statements is TD is THE window. While that statement is true, I think its a subset of the Big Three is THE window(except for '99). Unless in these playoffs Tony elevates to a whole new level to alleviate the deficiencies of Timmy's knees and no Manu. It all started with Timmy and but it will end with ANY three.

I agree, Lion. I honestly don’t understand some fans – these guys are as much part of the Spurs DNA as the freaking logo, in my heart.

I kinda feel like Bruce Bowen belongs in that group, too. Honestly, who remembers anything about the guy before he donned the silver and black? Yea, a lot of people don’t like his, errrr, questionable tactics, but it was a part of the Spurs’ identity for 5+ years, and I feel like we’ve lost a bit of an edge with Bruce’s game going downhill. It would be nice to get some of that psychological “I’m never gonna score on this guy” mojo back.

Please get better for real this time, Manu.

Yeah rik, for avid Spurs fans, Bruce is an integral part of it all. I just wish the league had given him the award instead of Marcus Camby the year he had the best shot at it. Camby on a disinterested Nuggets team could have just stood under the basket all day long and looked good doing it while his team lost.

I still haven’t eye witnessed anyone saying these sorta things on here but if it is being said anywhere by Spurs fans shame on them. Tomasito and myself were speculating that Manus recent injury was due to over compensating for his previous ankle injury but there was never any blame being placed on Manu for it. We were more or less trying to provide an explanation for why a non-weight baring bone would develop a stress reaction and later a stress fracture. My only criticism of Manu is he doesn’t come on PTR-the best website on the net!

Oh I didn’t mean over here speedo. If you looked over the other Spurs sites like Spurstalk and Spursreport, you will frequently find lots of fans bringing up Manu’s injury and the olympics and most dun get it. Its not whether he should have played, its the freaking olympics….if ppl can play their sport on one leg, they will do it.
