Game Thread #70: San Antonio Spurs vs Golden State Warriors
Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs, Mar 24, 2009 7:30 PM CDT

I think it's time we learnt some of this
Yesterday there was a party in my honor at my soon-to-be ex-office, and I thought it was my duty as the man of the minute - and in true PTR fashion- to drink as much as possible. The obvious outcome: a splitting headache while I write this half-assed preview. It's for the better, anyway: what we need right now, as blog, as a community, as a team, is peace.
For some pre-preview reading material, as always I recommend 48 Minutes of Hell, where Tim Varner says that TP is better than the usual stats say. I personally don't trust stats but hey, if it involves mocking Nazr, I'm in.
So grab each other's hands and let us go together through this dovish preview:

Between the goings-on here at PtR and the Spurs’ recent struggles, I’m not sure I can handle a loss to the W’s tonight.
Can’t we all just…ahh, fuck it.
For tonight's game
I am anticipating a deeply religious experience. I think.

And….Go Jazz, too! They have the Rockets at home. Their home record is good too. We can jump back into first in the division tonight if we win and Houston loses.

I know I tell a lot of lame stories...
So here’s another one. I was attending Spurs basketball camp as a 10 year old in 1988. Every year, the camp counselors would play a game against the camp all-stars (who were all high school players). Well, this year, the Spurs new rookie David Robinson came. I didn’t really know who he was, but he signed autographs for all 150 or so campers, then he participated in the scrimmage on the coaches teams. He was running up and down the court dunking on everyone and blocking every shot. It was absolutely ridiculous—like that episode of Cheers where Kevin McHale plays for the Cheers team, only times a million.
O-beard-to in.
Although I don’t think he’s bearded anymore. Traitor.
I read his twitter feed the other day and it was sort of an uncomfortable experience.

I hate to say it, but we’re really starting to remind me of the early 90s Celtics, with Timmy playing the role of Larry Bird and Manu as Kevin McHale. Our stars breaking down, and we’re good enough to beat any team when healthy, but alas, never healthy.

True but....
The numbers don’t lie. Virtually every game I’ve ever watched since hearing that
The statement holds true.
Once the Spurs hit 100 even though around 5 minutes left, I wasn’t really worried. You can even check the thread, I said it a few times when the game was still in question as my friends and I do when watching it together.
Test it out…
You might be surprised

Statistically, it’s an incomplete rule. Many times a team makes it to 100 first because it’s a blowout. Then, it’s obvious that in close games the team that’s ahead in the final minutes has more chances of winning.
If you considered close games only, the probability of the first team to 100 winning it all wouldn’t be so high.

So, do we need to sacrifice a chicken each game now for Manu, or do we save that for the playoffs? There are no rules about animal sacrifices – I’m a little fuzzy about the MO.

Roger Mason is free agent signing of the off season. I’ve been joining you tomasito in saying that Mase was free agent signing of the off-season. :) That being said, I am happy with the win (at-last) against this team that’s won 25 games all year. Is it too late in the season to say that this just cannot continue? We must lose out games better own the stretch, especially against these crap teams.
This is our team this year. We love them. Manu, hurry back! Onto Atlanta tomorrow night. Everyone tune into TNT and cheer on the Jazz. Let us bring back first place tonight.

Saw on ESPN that we won. Niccccccce. I’m sure it didn’t go down to the wire, where we missed two free throws and only the fact that Golden State didn’t have any timeouts left saved us from certain disaster. Surely that didn’t happen.
