Dirty Rumor: Salmons/Miller from Kings
Spurs Interested In Kings' Salmons, Miller?
Feb 08, 2009 7:46 AM EST
The Spurs reportedly have interest in Kings guard John Salmons and center Brad Miller, and they are exploring ways to acquire them in a trade.
San Antonio is even looking to see if Sacramento is interested in Robert Horry, according to a source, who the Spurs could sign and deal.
Horry would then be waived by the Kings, taking home money for nothing, but allowing Sacramento to get out from underneath the contract of either Salmons or Miller.
It's possible that Michael Finley could be involved in a deal between the two teams as well.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Salmons: Small forward, better than Fin, can score in more ways than Mason. Decent contract that goes till 2011
Miller: Still has some game, soft, not a banger, likes to shoot with range, somehow made All-Star team, comes off books next year. Gets paid big money 12 mill+
Salmons I'm comfortable with. Thats if we don't end up finding another big man. Mason-Manu-Salmons-Bruce on the wings with the Parker/Hill in the backcourt. I can live with that.

i like both of these guys a little. salmons would add toughness and miller another big body that can score and maybe get some rebounds. he has a little bit of range too. cant imagine that we could get them for just finley and roho though. we would surely have to give up something else?
this is probably the best deal SA could make without dealing away a guy who we really dont want to………

I’m pretty sure the Spurs drafted Salmons in 2002, so the front office likes the guy, making this rumor more believable the Wallace and Carter ones. However, the front office could’ve been drafting for Philadelphia when they traded Salmons on draft night.

I dont like Salmons. He is not a strong defender or shooter. He is more of a slasher. We already have Manu and Tony, we dont need another guy who needs the ball in his hands to make things happen. Miller? For a 1 year rental I like.

I like the idea of Miller, but I don’t like the idea of unloading around 10 mil to get him.

deduction time
if the rumor is “Salmons or Miller” and one would put us over the cap, and the other’s salary would fit, and we know that our front office is never allowed to stray too close to the cap … then we could safely surmise that the “or Miller” part can be safely ignored

2 good/decent forwards, when we desperately need them? I’m down with this. Wish Miller made less money, but still….

This reeks of being too easy for the SPURS. Ironic that this deal will come down to RoHo “playing ball” for it to work. It almost makes too much sense, but regardless, it’s way too late in the season for me to believe Pop would add not one but two newbies to the schemes.

Didn’t Stitches give mighty mouse some PT last year to see if he had anything to contribute before banishing him the the bench for the duration?
I think you’re rushing to judgment, SiMA, and it makes me very sad.
BTW, I just got back from HEB, with a six pack of HCF CS. Spring approaches, and after the success of our soft drink’s performance in Sunday’s game — I’m ready to start prepping the carbonated beverage mojo.
But the Spurs cap is resting and won’t be called into duty until the playoffs, or until the last few games of the regular season, if needed.

Hi people, regarding all the talk about trades there has been in these last weeks, i think i didnt hear this one and correct me if i’m wrong, i’m new here and probably i’m saying something idiotic, but what about Andres Nocioni? Word is the bulls want to get rid of him, dont you think it could be a useful asset to the spurs? Knowing also he could have good chemistry with the team having played a lot with Ginobili, How improbably a trade could be? Is he an expensive player?

royal, nice to have you with us
Noc has been discussed a couple of times — most recently here — and with mixed reviews

We don’t need him, he’s expensive, he’s a spaz at D. (Love you, Chapu!)
