Hopeful
Well, maybe we can beat a team that’s supposed to be good instead of our inability to beat teams that ARE bad.
Here’s a question, why did the Spurs not try to pick up McDyess after he was dropped by Denver? Could we trade for him?

Ludicrous. Shaq is still much better than that. That would be worse than the Gasol trade.

Manu's Ankle
The SA Express is reporting that MG hurt his ankle in the Warrior’s game. Pop says he’ll make a statement before tip-off tonight.
By Jeff McDonald on Feb 19, 2009 10:33 AM
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Talked to Gregg Popovich at shootaround this morning about Manu Ginobili, his latest ankle injury and what it might mean going forward.
Ginobili has undergone a battery of tests. Now all that’s left is to diagnose the results and come up with a plan of action.
“I could give you really good specifics tonight,” Popovich said. “The doctors have done all the testing they want to do, so that’s done. They’re getting together as we speak, trying to evaluate what does that mean and what are we going to do. We’ll have the answer to that by game time.”
That’s what will pass for a Ginobili medical update until tonight. In all likelihood, Ginobili will be prescribed a healthy dose of rest. He is not on the Spurs current road trip.
One other tidbit gleaned from shootaround: The ankle had apparently began bothering Ginobili in the Spurs’ overtime victory at Golden State on Feb. 2.
“He just felt some pain in it during the Golden State game,” Popovich said. “It sort of just didn’t go away.”
It is a bit disconcerting that the All-Star break didn’t cure Ginobili’s soreness. As the E-N reported yesterday, a source within the organization said the injury is not expected to threaten Ginobili’s season.

So many idiots in ST. I never got the whole “let’s back this team no matter who wears the jerseys” attitude.
Look, I’m all for being a fan of a certain team and sticking to it through thick and thin, good and bad times. That’s fandom, that’s sports. But I would be completely against a Spurs team featuring the likes of Josh H, Vujacic, etc. etc. It’s not the same to root for Manu and Timmy than for Paul and West. It just isn’t.

Well made point
I totally agree. As a Cowboys fan I always root for my team, but I wish we had a higher quality of person, just like the Spurs DO HAVE. Just because somebody is good at what they do doesn’t mean you want to associate with them.

We don’t have a chance, without the flop master… how are we going to get free throws down the stretch? We need parker to wildly fling his arms on all of his unadvised drives to the hoop. I don’t see Mason even trying it. Trouble on the horizon.

The Manu situation as told to me from a first hand persective. Manu has a sore ankle. Feels wobbly on the ankle but limited inflammation so he continues to play. Midseason break arrives and he takes off three full days. Works outs commence. Ankle still sore and wobbly.
Docs notice ankle is tender to touch so xrays taken. Negative. MRI. Negative. CT scan. Damage to osteoblasts a few inches above the ankle. Multiple hairline fractures possible on fibula. Recovery six weeks to two months.
Three phase bone scan ordered. Diagnoses downgraded. Stress reaction requiring seven to fifteen days of air cast. During this stage electrotherapy in addition to pool based calf and foot exercises. Following stage consists of five to seven days of regular activity. If bone scan shows improvement, clearance will be given. To clear up a few matters. Manu never faced the peril of being out for the season. Worst case scenario had him returning during first set of the playoffs. If all goes well he could be rehabilitating only 12 to 13 days. Worst case about one month. Be aware that he will have to undergo testing throughout to chart the health of the fibula. If situation worsens he would have to repeat the phases. Likelihood of reoccurrence is 20 to 30 percent. Thank you and god bless.

Because I love you, LatinD, here is the complete transcript:
Sager: Well, coach, you played 9 different players in that first quarter. What were you looking for and what did you like?
Pop: Well, we’re . . . trying to win a basketball game. I like the fact that we hung in, had a tough start, 9-0, we just stuck with the system, got back into the game.
Sager: You got to do anything different against Alan Iverson since he seems to be having such a good quarter?
Pop: No.
Sager: ’K. Thanks a lot.
Marv: Pop a man who . . . measures his words, and Reggie, as you know, on the inside, he’s having a chuckle to himself.

Pop: “Healing process has already begun” for Ginobili
By Jeff McDonald on Feb 19, 2009 6:17 PM | Permalink | Comments (0) Save & Share Yahoo! BuzzYahoo! Newsvine del.icio.us Facebook Google Reddit Fark
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — A little more information on Ginobili coming out of Gregg Popovich’s pre-game news conference.
The important thing to note here is that Ginobili has a stress reaction in his right fibula, not a stress fracture. A fracture cuts through the bone. A reaction is a topical inflammation.
“New bone has already been laying down, they’ve seen it on the X-rays,” Popovich said.“So the healing process has already begun.”
Doctors have pegged Ginobili’s return date at two or three weeks out, a timetable Popovich did not believe was out of the question. He notes that Ginobili has already been off the ankle since Feb. 11, when he played his last game against Toronto.
“He’s already been out basically a week,” Popovich said.
Popovich added he was surprised — “very much so” — at the way Ginobili had been playing on his sore leg. In the past seven games he played, Ginobili averaged 22.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He had 32 points against the Raptors before being shelved.
“It’s not a stress fracture, so it makes it very different,” Popovich said. “If it was a stress fracture, he probably wouldn’t be playing like he’d been playing.”

Your awesome “news” story of the day:
Speeding bullet stopped by hair weave
KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 19 (UPI) — Police in Kansas City, Mo., said a woman’s tight hair weave stopped a bullet, rescuing her from injury and likely saving her life.
Officers said they arrived at the Country View Market at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday to find the woman’s boyfriend had allegedly shot out the back window of a car, KSHB-TV, Kansas City, reported Thursday.
Investigators said the woman wasn’t injured after her hair weave stopped the bullet and her boyfriend was taken into custody.
That story’s crazy shit. I watched Mythbusters last night and they used like three braids of hair to see if it can help them escape prison. Lo and behold, the hair rope held up until the girl that looks like Vitamin C got down from a 5-storey prison building. Wild.

Bruce’s defense today was a thing to behold. Considering the craptastic games Timmeh and Tony had, we’re lucky to escape with a win.

+1
The game turned around when he guarded AI, who tore us up without Bruce in the game. And good call on the halftime fish – this is the only time I’ll admit you were absolutely right, Fishboy.
Good people drink good beer - Hunter S. Thompson
Timmy wasn’t so craptastic… sure he had like thirty of his shots blocked, but he got a bunch of boards and made some tough layups as well.
I would say KG because I don’t have to see Nate’s mug as much. Of course, Nate’s incessant talking to the camera gets old pretty quickly.

And neither was dominant for any stretch of the game.
So, yes, I’m leaving Tim out.

by Wayne Vore (ATS) on Feb 20, 2009 8:04 AM CST up reply actions
Timmy was pretty tough down the stretch of the fourth; even though he got blocked a few times, he sucked it up and made some tough shots as well. To put it another way, would the Spurs have had a better shot if you take out Bonner’s contribution, or if you take out Timmy’s? They probably lose either way, but without Tim getting practically every Spurs rebound and playing D, we would have been destroyed.
I guess you could say that about every game, though, and it’s kind of boring to keep TD in the three stars all the time.
Tim also missed a layup off a beautiful pass by Bonner in the last couple minutes.
Was Tim better than Bonner? Yes.
Was Tim as good as he usually is? No.
Was Bonner off the charts good for him? Yes.
No doubt though, the Spurs win very few games without Tim.

I was thinking about it more, and are the three stars graded on a curve? Like you said, TD was probably a B or B+ in the realm of “all NBA players,” but no better than a C for “compared to TD performances.” Meanwhile, Matty was probably an A compared to his other efforts.
Much like the MVP award, a highly coveted place in the PtR three stars is up to the judgment of the voter, making it fodder for passionate water cooler discussion around the world.
True statement there.
I took a look today as I drove by and you most certainly work in a dreary looking building.

It just makes me sad. Our office is ridiculous. I work at a software company, but to fit in better in our building, maybe we should start selling A/C compressor coils.
I would have been more freaked out if he had said something like “you are beautiful as you work, so beautiful…you should be a statue in a wax museum, forever working, forever beautiful as you are today…”
Saw the ending on tv...
…goddam. What a good win. Makes today a lot better! Tim Duncan, 18 and 18, 3 blks. Another solid effort. He is maybe the most consistent big man in the game.
