The Sky is Falling

On the day of finding out Manus injury could be in fact a serious one, not just Pop dicking around with the regular season, we loose out on a would be good/great  fit via trade.   The consensus around here was that Vince Carter isn't a Spurs guy, however pretty much everyone felt landing a John Salmons was just what we needed.   Come to find out that is squashed now.   The only thing left to do as I see is pray for Manus unholy ankle and as SiMA said jump on the Pops bandwagon "there's still room".

I've read some rumors that we've inquired about Richard Jefferson but acquiring him without involving Manu is crazy talk.  We don't have the goods to pry him away unless all other active teams make deals leaving Milwaukee no other options but to trade with us.  I guess they want to unload him pretty bad.

Heading into the All-star break things were looking so up....this sucks.

I don’t think John Salmons was what we needed. Not as much as a big man anyway. I really hope Manu’s ankle is not gonna take him out again. That would pretty much ruin the whole season for me.

At this point this is the only trade I both support and can see happening. Expiring contracts are like a gold mine in today’s economy.

I think the 4 for 1 deals aren’t realistic. I read something to the effect that a team can’t exceed their 15 player roster in a trade even if they intend on buying out of the players they traded for. They would need to make room before hand. Maybe Bruce Mason Fab for Tyson and Kyle Weaver , “A glue guy who can handle the ball and has a rep as an outstanding defender” -Hollinger

Fin makes just about what Ime and JV make so that would make it 3 to 1. But the Spurs aren’t gonna trade both Fin and Bruce without getting a small forward replacement.

Bruce, Mase, and Fab for Rasheed. Pull the trigger.

I'd accept Jefferson

Plus, seeing as how the Bucks aren’t all that (even though they beat us earlier, didn’t they?), they may not require as much in return. However he is one of their top players. I think Richard would be a good ‘Spur’ too.

He certainly was.

Considering how Pop has been cautious with Manu this season, to the point of not playing him in Denver, it’s kinda hard to think the Spurs knew about some injury (even a minor one) and still let him play in Toronto.
So, either something not basketball-related happened during the break, or he had some seemingly minor issue before (and maybe he decided not to tell Pop becaus he wanted to play) that suddenly turned out to be serious.

I would rather have Carter than Jefferson. Both are expensive swingmen only one is an All-Star and the other spoon fed off Jason Kidd. If we’re gonna take on another huge contract we gotta make it a big man.

by r21x on Feb 18, 2009 6:10 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Jefferson is only 28 though so his contract isn’t nearly as crazy as Vince Carters. Also what makes you think that Parker won’t spoon feed Jefferson? Has Parker ever been hesitant to pass the ball to a premier wing player in the past ;o)

by speedostuffer on Feb 18, 2009 6:14 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

His numbers in MIL are fine so far

Hes averaging 18 ppg in only 36 mins, so I dont think Jason Kidd or not is hurting his numbers. He can play and would add a great wrinkle to this offense.

I'm Mad as Hell.....

…..and I hope our Silver and Black are too. Disrespect intended—we should NOT be losing to the Raptors and the freaking KNICKS back to back. It is beneath us. Pop better be kicking the team’s ass right now. The sky isn’t falling, but with houston in the rear-view mirror, the ceiling is definitely lowering.

SiMA have you seen Pops play much? I’ve only read things on him and seen his D League stats which is hardly a good gage

by speedostuffer on Feb 18, 2009 7:16 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I’ve scouted him over several games with the Toros, and the kid can ball. He’s VERY raw, but pure athletic and very energetic. In addition, he’s a quick study and eager to please/learn. His jumper is rough, but he’s got the fundamentals and can space the floor well for a big guy. Though not a large body, he plays big and has the length to compete with larger players. I could see Pop bringing him in and with patience, molding him into a strong 4. Add a summer learning and lifting, and he could be a Paul Milsap + James White -type figure next year for us.

One, houston is without McGrady for the year
Two, NO inexplicably traded Chandler for a pile of beans

Everyone take two steps back from the ledge.

Everyone needs to calm the fuck down. OK… take a deep breath… and another…. and another.

What do we know? Rumor and inuendo… that’s what we know. Squat. Bubkes. Nada.

We do know this… Pop is a genius. Has Pop ever done anything that was detrimental to his players or the team. NO.

If the ankle is sore, then what would be the responsible thing to do? Hmmm…. maybe keep Manu at home where he can continue to work with physicians and therapists to improve the ankle?

We’re talking about three games in February… against East Coast teams. Our Spurs should be more than capable of beating Detroit and Washington without Mr. Ginobili. If we can’t do that, then we have no business being in the playoffs.

In the end, Tony and others will show up (better late than never) and we’ll be fine. Don’t stress until we have a reason to stress. We’re not Suns fans. Besides it’s not good for my blood pressure.

Everyone remain calm.

I am happy. I am proud. - Manu Ginobili

I’m so glad you said this; I’d been thinking about it all day and was planning to say something tonight too.

Seriously guys? I always considered most of you much smarter than this (after all, it’s not like you’re Spurstalk). Manu isn’t getting traded. Don’t ask me how I know, but I do. Could be because Manu is Manu, and he’s one of the Top 25 in the league, and he’s the Manuest of them all. And his season isn’t over. Don’t ask me how I know, but I do. Could be because you don’t drop 30+, walk off the court without a hint of injury, take 5+ days off and suddenly go lame. And his career definitely isn’t over (and anyone worrying about this ought to just do society a favor and go ahead and jump off a bridge). He’s Argentine, and they have staying power.

Please remember who our Coach is, and how smart he is. Remember how our organization is arguably the sharpest in the league. Remember that sandbagging assets helps us tremendously leading into tomorrow. And settle down, we ARE starting to look like suns fans.

PS- the Chandler trade was just rescinded, for all you conspiracy theorists. This should give you something else to obsess over until tomorrow night.

Tyson Chandler……Hmmmmm.
Now Joe Smith/Wilcox back to available……. Hmmmm.
Adding a veteran big + the athletic prowess that is Pops…….. Hmmmm.
