Manu's ankle
http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Ginobili_hampered_by_sore_right_ankle.html
"The ankle had been bothering Ginobili for a few days heading into the All-Star break.
(...)
“He just had some soreness,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “We just wanted to make sure, so we're getting him checked out.”
Popovich admitted it was disconcerting that Ginobili's ankle was still tender after five days of rest.
If it responds to treatment, there is a chance Ginobili could re-join the team on the rest of the rodeo trip (...) That, however, sounded unlikely Tuesday night."
A lingering injury, it seems. But from this article I still get the impression that he would be playing, if the Spurs really needed him.
I guess this also clears any doubt about the possibility of Manu staying behind because he's going to be traded.

Never Had a Doubt
About Manu being traded. I just hope the ankle isn’t really an issue

Who said he was going to be traded?
On ESPN this morning, they linked the Spurs with Richard Jefferson, which would be better than Carter IMO, hes younger to boot.

Well, no media sources, obviously, but in forums a lot of people actually hinted that the injury might have been fake, and he was going to be traded. Just to be clear, I never thought that, and would be 100% against trading Manu.
I don’t like the idea of trading for Carter, and Jefferson doesn’t look much better to me. His contract is just slightly less horrible than Carter’s, and the Spurs would still have to trade like four players to make it work.

well hes only 28
compared to Carters 32? And RJ seems to be a better competitor than VC, so it wouldnt be that bad, as long as they hang onto Hill

Strictly on basketball terms I do think Jefferson would fit better with the Spurs and yeah, he’s younger than VC.
My point is, they’re both way overpaid for what they do, the Spurs would have to give them an increasingly larger amount of money through 2010-2011 (and Carter’s got another 4 million guaranteed after that), and it just seems very un-Spurs-like to do so.
Either trade would also likely bring the Spurs over the luxury tax threshold, I think, and that’s another thing the FO has been trying to avoid for years.

The San Antonio Spurs’ delay to release any specific information about Manu Ginobili’s right ankle injury has led some opposing GMs to speculate that the injury could be serious. Delaying the announcement until after the Thursday trade deadline would help keep the Spurs from losing any leverage in their ongoing talks.
Spurs officials announced only that Ginobili won’t join them on their road trip and their medical staff continues to study test results on Ginobili’s ankle.
In addition to pursuing Sacramento King’s swingman John Salmons and the New Jersey Nets’ Vince Carter, the Spurs expressed interest in Milwaukee Bucks forward Richard Jefferson while acknowledging there’s little chance of landing Jefferson.
Bruce Bowen has offered in nearly every trade discussion because he’s guaranteed only $2 million next season. Center Fabricio Oberto also has a partial guarantee of $1.9 million next season.
The Spurs didn’t announce Ginobili wasn’t accompanying them on their trip until Monday when they were already in New York. Though Ginobili scored 32 points in a loss to the Toronto Raptors, the Spurs’ final game before the All-Star break, team officials say he had been experiencing pain in his right ankle for a while.
I’m so freaking sad.

Mmmh, maybe it’s a bad injury, but there’s no information about it here (other than other teams’ GMs speculations, that is), so there’s no way we can tell right now, and it might as well be nothing serious at all.

No reason to freak or even be that sad now, that quote says virtually nothing. Besides, with the mind games Pop & Co. play, nothing surprises me at this point. It’s not like we needed leverage because we were offering up the Manu anyway.

How did he hurt this ankle? I’ve never seen any signs of it.

Reportedly during the Warriors game. Hasn’t healed since, even though it’s obviously something he was able to play through in Toronto, where he looked just fine.
