Hey sorry but no can do. I believe Kobe is the only NBA player with a no-trade clause in his contract. They are no longer allowed but existing ones were grandfathered in when they made the change. His is the only one left.

Probably because they didn’t want players having that much bargaining power

I think Devin George used to have one of those, but no one ever cared about him.
by Manu ex Machina on Dec 7, 2009 11:52 PM CST up reply actions
Devin George was different. His situation had to do with “Bird rights” – those are what allow teams to resign their veteran free agents for more money even if they exceed the salary cap. If he would have been included in that trade he would have essentially lost those rights for some technical contract reason.
The Lakers "Too big, too strong, too long, too good."
Yeah. It was one of those things ironed out between the owners & players while they negotiated one of the collective bargaining agreements. I figure the owners didn’t want to be forced to pay 10’s of millions to some dude they didn’t want on their team anymore.
And of course Kobe could still be traded but only with his approval.
The Lakers "Too big, too strong, too long, too good."
so why will the trade not happen?

We had 3 guys in double figures: Tim, Tony and Bonner. Next in line was Jefferson with 7 points. The load is not being shared. As usual, it is Tim and whichever other 2 players decide to show up. Tonight those guys just happened to be Bonner and Tony. We missed 7 free throws, which again would have been the difference maker.
Utah, on the other hand, had 6 out of the 8 players they played score in double figures, with the 7th scoring 8 points. They shot half the amount of free throws as us, but only missed 2 of them. They grabbed 1 less rebound, but 2 more offensively than us. That would have been a difference maker. They had 3 players with 7 or more rebounds, to our 2. They committed 2 fewer turnovers, 2 more steals, and 10 more assists than us. They made 7 of 11 3pt attempts, and overall shot 53%. And they trailed by 8 at the half.
Yeah, it was a painful loss no matter how you measure the numbers against each other.

According to Mike Monroe:
“The last time the Spurs were .500 this late in a season was 2003-04, when they were also 9-9. They dropped one game under-.500 when the Lakers beat them at the AT&T Center.
What followed was a 13-game win streak, the turning point in a 57-win season."

We should consider making a separate 3rd quarter thread.
When the tooth fairy's own tooth falls out, it is taken during the night by Princess Peanut.

the front office shoulda known that jefferson was what he was: a gunner that plays no defense. how was he supposed to change his philosophy after all these years in the league and become the team’s savior?
we should have went for someone who stays within the team’s defensive philosophy, like a Gerald Wallace or a Rip Hamilton.
Unless RJ turns out to be a Stephen Jackson in the long run (a turnover-prone scorer), I don’t think the trade panned out at all. We need to him to be assertive and not expect Parker to be the next J-Kidd and hand him the ball in all of his spots. He just needs to go out there and play. And please someone answer this: When was the last time he actually had double figures??
Bogans and McDyess Not Producing
These spurs losses have been close to tough teams, still a few guys have a glaring lack of results. Against Boston, starters Bogans and Mcdyess score 0 points. Absolutely no production on offense. A decent 10 point night from either guy would have turned some of these losses into wins. Popovich loves defense, can he now get more offense out of the newcomers? It seems he now has a team that doesn’t play the shutdown D of old in close games, final minutes, and yet it also doesn’t generate enough offense. Always seems spurs are trailing by 8-12 late in game against better teams, and then they put on a final surge but fall short. Not a good trend. Duncan is stepping up big time, rest of the gang needs to get it going.
