Nuggets @ Spurs: The Game Thread
Denver Nuggets at San Antonio Spurs, Dec 5, 2009 7:30 PM CST
The Spurs have been playing excellent defense lately, despite some momentary lapses. You know what hasn't gone so well? The offense. Tim has been incredible, and Tony has still been very good, even if he seems to lack his usual explosiveness. Manu finds ways to be effective, even without scoring. And Dejuan Blair has been positively beastly. But, that's not enough.
Someone else needs to provide offense tonight.
Remember when Rage had an excellent game for us? No? Maybe this will jog your memory.

It's time that RJ showed up again. And, to get you in the mood, here's some Rage:
He'll deserve the nickname today if he plays half as well as Carmelo's been playing. Until then, he will only be "RJ".
Starting Lineups
Nuggets
Chauncey Billups
Arron Afflalo
Carmelo Anthony
Kenyon Martin
Nene
Spurs
Tony Parker
Keith Bogans
Richard Jefferson
Tim Duncan
Antonio McDyess
Referees
Ron Garretson
Tony Brothers
Phil Robinson

Please don't post any illegal feed links here. Spurs Radio is here if you want to listen to the game. If that's not working, or if you're looking for a video feed in your area, email myself or LatinD - our email addresses are down at the bottom of the page.

Alright. Tonight’s keys to the game. If we don’t do them, we are in lots of trouble.
1. Transition defense, especially to keep them off the free throw line.
2. Rebounding. Very important.
There you have it straight from Pop. If we don’t do these well, don’t expect good results.

Ah…the guy in my lab reminds me daily of the Spurs fallings. He starts shaking his head when he sees me at the door(obviously I am late most days).
Just realized today, for all our optimism, even though it doesn’t feel like we have done very badly so far, our record is kinda bad. The Lakers are what 15-4 or so and Celts with something similar. Man we are very behind. If we wait till Feb to get things right, I don’t know if thats enough.
Btw, this is early season pessimism. A win tonight will make me forget it.
From Rand’s mojo post
past championship squads have had a sense of inevitability about them – a quiet dominance, an innate menace that put other teams back on their heels
Really, where did that go? Why don’t these guys just really go out and get it back. I hate Kobe’s smirk in the last two mins of a game, knowing he can do what nobody else on the court can do. Ugh.
Maybe because the team has a lot to worry recently? There’s the problem of integrating a ton of new guys. There’s the dilemma of saving Manu’s body (and even Tim’s, to a certain extent) from further beatings. Etc., etc.

I can start, Lauri: I missed a party last night because the host managed not to notify me soon enough, and now I’m surrounded by laundry and clutter. Life is awesome.

I could continue: I went to an osteopath yesterday, and now my back’s killing me. Also, I have a new pain high in my spine, and for some reason my jaw hurts. I think I’ll have to wrap myself in cotton before going to the States.

Oh, well done.
I have a giant hole in my head which makes me feel weird, and I’m seeing everything through a Vicodin haze which manages to be both pleasant and disconcerting, I’m torn between watching the Spurs and the Longhorns, and my mom is probably going to go back into the hospital tomorrow but I’ve already promised to do all this stuff at work so will have a hard time overseeing her.
I have flying monkeys at my disposal, and I'm not afraid to use them.
Is your mom okay?
On another note, I love that vicodin haze. But my neurologist doesn’t favor it so I bought 4 migraine medications today.
Hilariously maladjusted. But for all the right reasons.
Don’t know about mom. She went to urgent care yesterday because she was having trouble breathing. They took x-rays and gave her antibiotics, and said if she didn’t feel markedly better soon, she should go in to the hospital. She just quit her job and I’m not sure her Medicaid has kicked in yet. But she feels bad, so my sister and I want to take her in regardless.
I have flying monkeys at my disposal, and I'm not afraid to use them.
Thanks for putting my continuous back pain into perspective by having a giant hole in your head, Lauri. Much appreciated.

Then you should read his stand on the possibility of women playing in the NBA in the future.
by silverandblack_davis on Dec 5, 2009 7:28 PM CST up reply actions
I haven’t read it. But why should girls play in the NBA when there is already WNBA. I don’t know, but unless we discover the Amazon race, it wouldn’t be fair right and if we do, then it wouldn’t be fair to the guys. Lol.
For one thing, the WNBA doesn’t pay anywhere near what the NBA does.
Hilariously maladjusted. But for all the right reasons.
Ah pay. That is a point, but not necessarily play in NBA for it.
I was just talking from a sporting physicality point of view. Unless nature made the women stronger bigger than man, I don’t see how it will be fair.
Well, I understand that. Earl Boykins seems to have carved a niche though. And I get how women players would want to compete at the highest level.
Hilariously maladjusted. But for all the right reasons.
Well my thinking is that, it should be a league of comparable physical prowess with superlative talents within such a grp.
So maybe a new Mixed League is a good option. It will have both sexes, and the really elite of both will probably still jump ship to their respective faction leagues. I don’t know. For sure there are a vast majority of women and men with comparable skill levels. But the NBA is just barely 400 players. That is not vast.
I for one am still not sure why there are separate catagories for men and women when it comes to things like Academy Awards. Certainly there’s some pretty deep cultural ideas involved here.
Hilariously maladjusted. But for all the right reasons.
So, what’s he saying exactly? It’s a definite “no” as long as he’s in the NBA, or what?
Hilariously maladjusted. But for all the right reasons.
Wouldn’t it be something if he didn’t make it another 10 years? Just sayin’.
Hilariously maladjusted. But for all the right reasons.
I can’t say I wholeheartedly disagree with you on that one, but for the sake of basketball and its fans, I shall now promptly knock on wood.
