Tuesday 12/1 Loser Thread

Good evening all! We have lots of more action around the league tonight. Toronto hosts the Wiz, the Celtics travel to Charlotte to blowout the Cats, Phoenix heads to the Big Apple, Golden State tries to continue its winning ways in Enver, the Heat go to Portland, and on NBA-TV the Nooch go to LA for a whoppin'. Attached is another brain buster of a poll. You're kidding me. This is not 75 words yet?!

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I dunno, call me a jerk or class-less, but if you were Kevin McHale, Kenny Smith, or Smitty, or Bruce, or Brent Barry (especially one of the 3 Spurs), and you did commentary with C-Webb, Snow or Barkley, would you wear atleast one championship ring for broadcasts, on screen? I might. As far as I know there is no rule against it. I know the football commentators on Sunday afternoon certainly flash the bling. It wouldn’t be rubbing it in too much, would it? Honestly, what could they say? :-P

Just in case anyone’s interested, here are the 2010 Basketball Hall of Fame nominees:

Karl Malone
Scottie Pippen
Dennis Rodman
Mark Jackson
Don Nelson
Chris Mullin
Jamaal Wilkes
Bernard King
Dennis Johnson
Rudy Tomjanovich
Rick Pitino
Jerry Reinsdorf
Terry Cummings
Jerry Buss
Sarunas Marciulionis
Al Attles
Muggsy Bogues
Ralph Sampson
Tex Winter
Dick Bavetta (are they serious?)
Darell Garretson (former referee)
Jim Valvano (college field)
Bobby Hurley Sr. (high school)
Oscar Schmidt (Brazilian scoring machine in international play)

by silverandblack_davis on Dec 1, 2009 10:09 PM CST reply actions

Can’t wait for the Pippen speech in which he talks about how he really was almost as good as Jordan himself.

Malone, Pippen and Bernard King should be locks. I hope Rodman makes it, but maybe not this (following) year.

Karl Malone – 1st ballot
Scottie Pippen – 1st ballot
Dennis Rodman – probably
Mark Jackson – wishes he were a Laker; no.
Don Nelson – has won more games than any coach, but never coached in the Finals.
Chris Mullin- yes
Jamaal Wilkes – no
Dennis Johnson – yes; great defender.
Jerry Reinsdorf – no.
Muggsy Bogues- no.
Ralph Sampson – no.
Tex Winter – yes.

by Ed (dfjmed) on Dec 1, 2009 10:30 PM CST up reply actions

Ralph Samson was nominated on the strength of his college career, not the pros.

As an assistant to Phil Jackson, who took over as the Bulls’ head coach in 1989, Winter was an integral part of the Bulls’ NBA championships in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998. Winter followed Phil Jackson to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he collected four additional championship rings, in 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2009.

Hey, while you’re on the subject of comments, I saw some on Yahoo stories that made me GOL.

On players with the highest basketball IQ:

Uh, if by “highest basketball IQ” you mean “guy who chucks up 18-foot fadeaway jumpers while triple teamed from time to time,” then yeah, it’s Kobe.

and

Marko Jaric! For somehow still being in the league, getting paid big, and knocking up Adriana Lima. Smartest man to ever play basketball.

On the 10 best NBA players of the last decade:

TD is the best – has there ever been a superstar’s personality so brilliantly matched to his coach?
(Eddy Curry and Isaiah Thomas do not count.)
