Tim Varner hits it out of the park with his assessment of the team's defense. He contends that the lousy D can be easily fixed by tweaking minutes/lineups.

Tim V. rules.

The Spurs - not playing defense anymore, since 2008.

Lack of talent not effort

I relate the dramatic defensive decline on the deteriation and loss of key defensive players. With some exceptions, I almost always see the spurs out there doing the do but they just are not as defensively intimedating as in days past.

I’m going to have to disagree with you. It’s mostly lack of positioning combined with lack of effort. Although we do miss Brucey, it’s the interior D that has been atrocious this year. Timmeh and Manu are still out of shape, which probably shows up more on the defensive end. Tony has been a bit more matador this year with the defense, and our bigs (not named Timmeh) still don’t know what they are doing. I do anticipate RJ’s D picking up a notch after the benching by Pop.

right on

yup thats exactly what i thought though i guess i was not very clear. i ment by deteriation as in the decline of some of the stable pieces i.e. ginobli(good p. defender) and mainly duncan combined with less experienced and sometimes TOO experienced supporting cast last year we struggled defensively. i agree this year is pretty much do to lack of energy and missed rotations caused by the reconstruction we performed in the off-season. i was mainly talking about last year cause i dont think its to the point where we can really go super crazy for this season considering it’s only been 5 games. Sorry about my grammar bro, just finished an architecture project. plus grammar has never been a strong point of mine. thanks for the comment.

This read was long but amazing (hopefully like our season will be). I strongly, strongly recommend it.

It was nice to see all that data available in the interwebs put to good use and interpreted for us.

Yes, Tim V’s post was a very good read.
