Hollinger's PER and Hill
Wow! I can't believe my eyes. Look at his PER. He is second only to Paul.
I know it's been only 3 games, but even Tony played 3 games and he is 7th.
Could this be a flash forward? a glimpse of the future? You tell me!

The presence of House, Barea, and Dragic on that list says that we need to wait until there’s a lot larger sample size. I would love to see if Hill can still crack the top 20 by the end of the season, though.

I know, but doesn’t his name look nice between Paul and Nash?
I think his defensive rebounding helped him a lot, since he didn’t get many assists to warrant his high PER.
and you can sub Hill for Manu in the middle of the first then sub Hill back in for Tony at the end of the quarter. Finley will have spot minutes. Man, I can be the new PJ.
PJ as in PJ Carlesimo or Phil Jackson?

Sort of like this?

Whoa! Nice chop skills.

Errr, I saved it off SpursTalk a while back. Sorry.

But Fin’s PER is higher than that of Jefferson.
Besides, don’t we hate Hollinger and his statistics shmatistics around here?

Hate him or not, the big three were always high on that PER list. It just doesn’t show defense and he admits it.
There is another stat that I’m really interested in. It’s the adjusted plus and minus that 48minutesofhell is promising this season. It shows Manu as our best perimeter defender this decade. Yes, Manu, with +4.7 something. You should check it out.
Hmm… over Brucey? I think I can explain. Bruce (prior to last year) was almost always in the game when the oppenent’s best player was in as well. So that skews that.

That’s a good theory. It could be why.
Also in plus and minus you get better or worse by who you play with, and adjusted plus and minus takes that into account. So it could take into account Bruce and Manu plus and minus.
Matt Bonner consistently leads the Spurs in +/-. That’s really all I have to say.

W-w-wait! I can explain that too. Maybe Pop knows how much of a liability Matt is (both on defense and offense really, because he can’t exactly create his own shot) that he puts him in with really good players. Maybe he never played with a lineup of the JV, Udoka, Drew Gooden, and, say, Michael Finley.

Like SaSleepless says… the adjusted +/- takes into account which players you play against and which players you play with. From 82games.com:
Adjusted +/- ratings indicate how many additional points are contributed to a team’s scoring margin by a given player in comparison to the league-average player over the span of a typical game (100 offensive and defensive possessions). These ratings are considered "adjusted" since they start with the simple +/- rating and apply a regression model as outlined by Rosenbaum to adjust for the impact of all other players on the court. All players in the top 75% in minutes during the season have been modeled, and the results have been centered so that the league-average player has an adjusted +/- value of zero. These ratings have been determined using only the matchup data available at basketballvalue.com. They do not explicitly include box score statistics, but they do reflect the value created by amassing such statistics as they contribute to a team’s net point differential. In addition, adjusted +/- ratings capture the valuable effect of myriad aspects of the game that go unrecorded in box scores, such as setting picks, boxing out, and defensive play.
Some very interesting numbers can also be seen at basketballvalue.com as the season progresses you will be able to see the combined adjusted +/- of different units the spurs field.

It’s ridiculous how protective and mother-tiger I get about him when I catch up on Twitter. All the other OKC players are like, “hey, tweeps, tough loss! we’re going to watch a movie and eat some bbq! lol!” and Kevin is all, “sorry about last night’s game—guess i deserve all the hate—i’m going to practice now to get better” and I’m thinking “Noooooooo! Poor kid! Don’t let it get to you! You’re insanely talented, just keep smiling and stay above it all! Here, have an alfajor!”
I just want him to be okay. Is that so wrong?
