Spurs International Roundup

Twss_international_medium

EuroLeague took the week off and the ACB took the opportunity to get in an extra game.

EuroCup starts today as well as EuroLeague playing this week.

Star-divide

Tiago Splitter

Caja Laboral

ACB (Spanish League): 7-2

EuroLeague: 3-1

Age: 24

Height: 7' 0"

Weight: 240

1st round, 28th pick, 2007

Caja picked up a couple victories this week.  Both of them pretty tough.  In the first game, Caja eeked one out against Blancos De Rueda Valladolid 72-65.  Tiago didn't shoot well from the field, going just 2-9, but he was 7-8 from the line.  He also snagged 9 rebounds in his 25 minutes. Mirza Teletovic had 23 points for Caja.

In the second game, Caja got another tough victory over Ayuda en Accion Fuenlabrada 76-68.  Tiago again had only 11 points and struggled from the field going 4 for 11.  He was a monster, though, grabbing 15 rebounds and dishing 5 assists.

Caja has a HUGE game Thursday against CSKA Moscow in EuroLeague play.  It's at home and CSKA Moscow is a bully who has been struggling.

Highlights of the win over Valladolid.

Highlights from the game over Fuenlabrada

Nando De Colo

Valencia

ACB (Spanish League): 7-2

EuroCup : 0-0

Age: 22

Height: 6' 5"

Weight: 185

2nd round, 53rd pick, 2009

Big news in Valencia this week.  They got a sponsor.  They are now Power Electric Valencia and are listed as Power VLC and/or Power Elect in different places so you will have to start looking for new names.

Power Electric Valencia starts EuroCup today against Hemofarm Stada.

In the first game, Valencia lost on the road at Unicaja 87-75 to a very hungry team.  Unicaja got their second victory (and their third by 1 against Estudiantes on the weekend).  Nando continued his turnover ways with a Tony-like 6 to go with 0 assists.   I spent about 5 minutes trying to calculate that assist::turnover ratio and couldn't figure it out.  Maybe Fred or Eric can help me out.  He also scored 10 points on 11 shots going 3-11 from the field and 0-4 from 3-land.

Valencia rebounded on the weekend with a 85-69 victory over Merdiano Alicante.  Nando also rebounded with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and only 1 turnover.  Mario Austin led Alicante with 18.  Isn't he the wide receiver for the Cowboys?

Lowlights of the loss to Unicaja.

Highights of the win over Alicante.

James Gist

????

Age: 23

Height: 6' 9"

Weight: 220

2nd round, 57th pick, 2008

This is getting silly.

Robertas Javtokas

BC Khimki

Russian League: 4-1

EuroLeague: 3-1

Age: 29

Height: 6' 10"

Weight: 240

2nd round, 56th pick, 2001

BC Khimki improved to 4-1 in the Russian League with a pair of victories.

In the first game, Khimki beat Triumph 76-65.  Robertas had 14 and 7 going 6-7 from the field.  Robertas is number 15 for anybody brave enough to browse the box score.

The second game, Khimki also beat Lokomotiv-Kuban 69-63.  Robertas came off the bench with 7 points and 6 rebounds in 22 minutes.

Khimki plays Asseco Prokom tomorrow in the EuroLeague.

Jack McClinton

Aliaga Petkim

Turkish League: 3-3

Age: 23

Height: 6' 2"

Weight: 185

2nd round, 51st pick, 2009

Jack had a better game this week as Aliago Petkim won 97-88 over Cola Turka.  Jack scored 25 points.  He was only 3-12 from 2-point, but he was 5-9 from 3-point and made all his free throws.

Quentin Hosley had a massive game stuffing the box score for Aliaga with 24 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, and 5, 4, and 4 of something else.

Lonny Baxter and Aussie Brad Newley play for Cola Turka.  Baxter had 19 and 9, while Newley had 33.  He was 6-7 from 2-point and 7-10 from 3.

Asvel Basket

Tony's Team

French League: 2-6

EuorLeague: 0-4

No love for Tony from his team this week.  Asvel dropped another LNB game, 78-68 to Nancy.

If you want to see a crazy box score, check this one out.  Asvel was out-rebounded 34 to 15.  Seriously, I don't know how that can happen in a 10 point game.

All name team:  Steed Tchicamboud.  Reminds me that I went to school with a guy who's last name was Schickendance.  Sounds just like Chicken Dance.

Eric Dawson

Mitsubishi Diamond Dolphins

JBL (Japanese League): 1-15

Age: 24?

Height: 6' 9"

Weight: 235

Austin Toros 2007-2009

Mitsubishi dropped another pair, but at least they took the league leader to over time before dropping the game.

Eric did not play in either game.  102-67 in the first game and 82-79 in the second game.

Wayne, do you think Nando would be a better SG than PG? Or some sort of combo guard?

From what little I saw of him during Eurobasket, he looks like a SG to me.

The Spurs - now playing defense again!

I like our flexible system that could allow him to play both. I love seeing Manu, Hill, and Parker take turns playing on and off the ball. I think he’ll lineup as a SG but get chances at bringing the ball up and running the offense.

If Tiago can get 8 FTA’s on 9 FGA’s, he doesn’t have to make his shots. That’s some great physical play that we don’t get from most of our shooting bigs. McDyess only has 18 so far this season. Bonner is at 11 FTA. Ratliff has 4 in limited minutes. Blair has 14 in inconsistent minutes. Duncan? 54 in his 10 games played is more than all the other bigs combined.

How sick would this team be with Tiago? What’s happened to James Gist? Is he just done as a potential Spur?

James Gist and Marcus Williams both seem to have fallen off the planet.

draft express has the Marcus Williamses mixed up again saying ours is playing for Memphis. I failed to find anything on either of them through google, wiki, or the NBADL site.

I know the argentinean PTers are laughing like crazy after reading the name of that team…..(the childish ones like me at least )
