Snapping Shrimp.

Alpheidae is a family of caridean snapping shrimp characterized by having asymmetrical claws, the larger of which is typically capable of producing a loud snapping sound. Other common names of these species include pistol shrimp or alpheid shrimp.
Most snapping shrimp dig burrows and are common inhabitants of coral reefs, submerged seagrass flats, and oyster reefs.
Pistol shrimp have also been noted for their ability to reverse claws. When the snapping claw is lost, the missing limb will regenerate into a smaller claw and the original small claw will grow into a new snapping claw. Laboratory research has shown that severing the nerve of the snapping claw induces the conversion of the small claw, resulting in a shrimp with two large claws, but this phenomenon of claw symmetry in snapping shrimp has only been documented once in nature.6
he shrimp snaps a specialized claw shut to create a cavitation bubble that generates acoustic pressures of up to 80 kPa at a distance of 4 cm from the claw. The pressure is strong enough to kill small fish and shatter glass.7
The snap can also produce sonoluminescence from the collapsing cavitation bubble. As it collapses, the cavitation bubble reaches temperatures of over 5,000 K (4,726.85 degrees Celsius).10 In comparison, the surface temperature of the sun is estimated to be around 5,778 K.

hmm.....

I can’t help but think that a lineup of:

C: duncan
PF: jefferson
SF: Bonner
SG: Bogans
PG: Parker

would be a really dangerous group both offensively and defensively. Have Bonner play the Forwards/Centers on defense and Jefferson play SF’s on defense and this could be a great unit.

The Spurs - now playing defense again! ...sometimes

by Tim C. on Nov 14, 2009 9:27 PM CST up reply actions

not really

Jefferson at SF means he has to stick to perimeter and have to try to drive in all the way from the perimeter, where as from PF he’d be positioned closer to the rim and thus have a much easier time driving.

Hence a significant offensive improvement form him the past two games compared to his 2 points this game.

I still can’t believe that foul on Westbrook before the ball was inbounded. What keeps players from fouling the worst player on the team before the play enters plays? Anyway. Great game.
