That looks painful but if Landrys arm would have been injured, it would have been his own fault for reaching in like that…

Yeah, no one’s going to blame Blair if someone gets injured trying to grab a rebound from behind Blair.
…No one in PTR, at least…

New top contender in my mind. I never liked Blair Force One….Blairforce is awesome though…it also focuses less on the crappy presidential plane and more on the aerospace/military tradition of SA

Civ II doesn’t even count as a game when put up against Civ IV. Seriously, if you liked Civ II then Civ IV will make you cry with joy.

I like to cry with joy, but it’s prolly not very impressive on the Wii.

Here we go again… You should thank your lucky stars we have consoles, they produce all the good games nowadays, pc’s just get them after they’ve proved a success.

Whoa! Rebound. Ball. Mine.
If Pop doesn’t play him against Boston with Sheed, Perk, KG and Glen Davis, I’m quitting Spurs fandom.

I dont think Blair realizes how dangerous it is for the other player when he instinctively secures the ball the way he does.
While he doesnt intend to hurt anyone, he should be more considerate of the oppositions arms. ( i will let one of you guys break this to him….)

I know it puts oppenents (who are dumb enough to try to steal the rebound over the back of DeJuan) in danger, but people should just know that that’s how he grabs his rebounds. They should fear him—of course, until the NBA declares that way of grabbing boards illegal and start calling Ts.
Miller used to be way too generous with his kicks when going up for a jumpshot. Most of the time (then), he got the call. So people just lived with the fact (if they really did) that that’s how Miller shoots his threes. Nowadays, it’s a technical, if I’m not mistaken.

I bet it will unfold the way you have explained, Rome.
Im just glad this animal is on OUR team.
We got an enforcer/rebounder now. When did we EVER have that kind of a player ??
I see Ron Artest had 9 rebounds in 23 minutes the other night. Maybe he should work on boxing out a little more. Our Rookie had more than twice as many rebounds…..in less minutes. (Against a better oppenent )

TOR, with all due respect, there is no “that way of grabbing boards” about this play. He sets up text book. He then makes a standard block out and judges where his man is behind him. Then he times his jump and grabs the board with both hands. When he feels that Landry has a hand on the ball he bends forward. Doesn’t EVERYBODY bend forward when securing the ball?
I think the league is going to have to give him the kind of respect that Barkley and Rodman earned from the guys they played against — which means they’ll simply be careful when challenging HeavyD for a rebound.

Yeah, that was pretty much my point. Almost.
Some (stiff and stupid) players think they’re too tall and lift the ball over their heads after securing the board. There are others who Timmy-hug the ball after a rebound. Still, others grab the board and then swing their elbows left and right. Some even get the rebound and dribble immediately. The point is, I don’t think everyone bends forward after a board. While there are many who do, I think Blair is strong enough to essentially judo-throw people who reach behind his back.
Players should just instinctively know that if they try to reach over the back of Blair, DeJuan will bend forward and they may end up on the floor. Does it look dangerous? Yes. Is it legal? Yes. That was my point. Oppenents should just adjust to it—unless the league starts penalizing Blair for doing it.

That’s OK Derek Fisher is the NBA players union rep. So he’ll just calmly go over to Mr. Blair and explain that the Lakers aren’t gonna take that crap. Just like he did to that pussy pretty boy Scola. (Hey he’s old so who cares if he gets suspended.)

Yeah, coz if the Lakers have a weakness, it’s not at PG, right?

So if some guy is schooling (Scola-ing) your team, and he sets a legal screen on you, the classy thing to do is to take a cheap shot on him? The Cheap Shot label that followed Horry after he nailed Nash somehow didn’t follow Fisher after his more egregious/dangerous hit.
by Gino20 on Oct 9, 2009 11:37 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Just fyi. In that game both Odom & Scola had been continuously taking shots at each other. But if you start that clip at the beginning you’ll see Scola crack Odom in the face/head as he goes up for a shot while Scola also grabs his jersey while he’s still in the air and tries to pull him to the ground. That was the immediately preceding play and caused all kinds of technicals / shoving, etc.
Ever since they lost to Boston, getting physical and pushing the Lakers around was/is the “conventional wisdom” on how to beat them. At some point the Lakers had to stick up for themselves. Rather than putting in some thug off the bench to do it the veteran leader Fisher delivered the message himself. (I have more thoughts about it but I’ll spare you.)
To me all the Horry controversy was more about how Nash fell than what Horry did. That and disappointed / hysterical Suns fans.

Whoa! Let me walk that back a little (or a lot).
Regarding the Blair rebound: I agree with jrw up there that if teams don’t account for him they deserve what they get (or don’t get). And no I don’t think Blair deserves the “Scola treatment”.
And regarding the Fisher/Scola thing. I was trying for a joke which I see wasn’t . . . Do I think Scola deserved what he got? AB-SO-LUTE-LY, but I’ll refrain from polluting this post any further with something so off-topic.

It’s deceptive because it twists as he comes down and then bends the right way (obviously because his arm wasn’t actually broken). If he hadn’t twisted his arm though….see you after the all-star game or next season, Landry.
