A Few Thoughts from the Game
I apologize if i accidentally say that which has already been stated, but these are things I feel I must speak of.
First off, it's a great sign of what may be to come when the Spurs beat a better team than the Lakers beat on their opening night, and by a far better margin. And we didn't even have a ring ceremony for some extra momentum. (and by ring ceremony I mean Kobe high-fiveing old Lakers for about 30 minutes)
Second off, I can't see the Hornets meeting anybody's expectations. From what I saw, they look like they might not even make playoffs. Without Chris Paul they're nothing. Of course i may be getting ahead of myself, after all it's only game 1. But I think we could see the Suns or Thunder taking their spot in the playoffs.
For those who said Finley's got nothing left, I say ha! 10 points in 21 minutes including 2 of 4 from 3-point range. Finely deserves his starting spot, especially after a very iffy performance by Mason. Plus he's also got the versatility to play the 2 and 3 spots and some savvy defense. Though not flashy whatsoever, Finley is solid and looks like he could be a key player and depth guy this year.
Blair is a beast, we all know that, but Duncan's starting to fall off the map. 9 and 12, no blocks, very un-Duncanlike numbers. He didn't show much on defense either but he was solid enough. Perhaps it's just because the year's only started, maybe it's his knee, I don't know. But whatever it is, it scares me.
Final Thoughts:
Manu is back, though is shooting stroke is still sloppy and inconsistent. Look forward to seeing him back into form throughout the year.
TP is like god now. Like god. We all know that title still belongs to Manu.
RJ was disappointing, but he seems a little uneasy when he's out there shooting, hurried. I'm sure he'll gte a lot better as the year goes on.
I'm so stoked that McDyess has turned out to be the player that I've wanted in San Antonio for years. Very nice shooting stroke, great D, he is who I thought he was. I like him much better than Rasheed.
Thanks for readin ya'll.

I think the Hornets are a playoff team. It’ll just take a lot out of CP and West.

My thoughts on your thoughts
1/ We spanked a potential playoff team even though none of the Big 3 played more than 26 minutes. The Lakers beat one of the suckiest teams in the league by 7 … and were only up by one point going into the fourth quarter … and Kobe, Odom, Bynum and Artest all played 38+.
2/ I won’t write the Hornets out of the playoffs just yet. I mean, they managed to lose by fewer than 20 points to what may be the most dominant team of the decade.
3/ Tim Duncan knows what really matters, which is why he won’t even get out of bed until after the All-Star break. He dropped 9 and 12 while still in his PJs, without even bothering to yawn or stretch. You want to know what a Duncanlike number is? Five. Watch, you’ll see.

Have I mentioned that I love the number five?

I like Findog starting. I like Bonner strating. But them together is B-A-D. I guess it’s just for the benefit of integrating RJ.
RJ adapted wonderfully. When he sensed he was off, he focused on setting up others. An All-Star will not get many nights off. Plus if anything else fails. There’s always that explosion to the basket.
Dice is our most underrated upgrade this year. Once, he cracks the starting five, we’ll see how beautifully he complements Timmeh’s game.
TP can go to toe to toe with any pg in this league. But what really amps the point is the addition of Hill. There is no one that can match the dynamic duo – bar none.

Whenever Bonner is “strating” – it just makes me happy.

I don’t know about Bonner starting. I mean we got Dyess, throw him in their with Duncan and have Bonner coming off of the bench. Finley starting is okay in my book but like stated above, with both of them not good.
The problem is Bonner likes to camp around three point land (that’s a given). That means with him being a big out there that leaves just one of our bigs to rebound and we got killed in that department on both ends of the floor lastnight.

Just curious if any of you are planning to update your above comments after game 2.
Pace yourselves fellas (or ladies if you prefer) because it’s a LONG season. Nobody’s going 82-0 and even Sacramento ain’t going 1-81.

I still love the number five.
Not sure whether an update was necessary for that or not.

Olf, I think you should forget about mentioning Sacramento for a while. Until things die down.

Hey, thanks for the update Jolly & Lauri.
And thanks for the heads up about Sacto. Let me rephrase that then to “even Charlotte ain’t going 0-82”.

Thought about it and I almost did, but I am starting to feel bad for that big pile of Shaq these days. My hope is he’ll do for Cle what he did for Phx (before moving on to somewhere with Tejano culture or even the pac northwest, or beantown).
I may have said this here before but having Shaq leave your team is like giving birth to a porcupine – backwards.
