International Roundup

A short post this week as we get ready for the NBA season to start.
Tiago Splitter -- Caja Laboral -- ACB
Caja had their first EuroLeague game, and possibly as a sign of things to come, they got drubbed 77-65. And it wasn't that close. They knocked 9 off the lead in the 4th quarter. Tiago had 17 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block.
In their ACB game, Caja remained undefeated with a 100-81 win over Xacobeo Blu:sens. The 34-10 run in the 4th quarter was the key. Tiago had 20 points going 7-10 from the field and 6-8 from the line. But, he only had 2 rebounds in 25 minutes.
Highlights of the XBS game. Marc Jackson, former Warrio, and Reyshawn Terry play for XBS.
Nando De Colo -- Valencia -- ACB
Valencia's EuroCup fate is in the balance today as they play the Belgian team Dexia Mons-Hainaut in second game of the two game qualifying. In the first game, Valencia got drubbed 78-63.
Valencia went to 3-1 with a 82-65 win over CB Granada on Saturday.
Nando had a modest 9 points, 4 boards, and 4 assists. And 5 steals. Or maybe turnovers. I'm not sure.
Valencia - CB Granada Highlights
Eric Dawson -- Mitsibishi Diamond Dolphins -- JPL
Eric didn't play in either game. It says DNP-CD, but I would find this very surprising.
James Gist -- Unknown
I'm going to guess that James is playing in the D-League. I expect we'll hear something soon.
Robertas Javtokas -- BC Khimki -- Russian League
BC Khimki beat Real Madrid 84-81 to start their EuroLeague season. This is a good win for BC Khimki. Javtokas had 11 points and 8 rebounds, but it was teammate Darjus Lavrinovic with 32 and 11 that carried the team.
Jack McClinton --Aliaga Petkim -- Turkish League
Aliaga Petkim beat %*(C(*# Cooper Tires 82-75. Jack was not shy about getting up shots in his first game with his new team. He took 16 shots. 2-8 from 2-point and 2-8 from 3-point.
Asvel -- Tony is part owner -- French League
Asvel got drubbed by Zalgiris 71-52 which is another bad loss for Tony's team. They also lost another league game 76-66 to Orleans and are now 1-3. Not good for the defending champs.

I’m glad JackMac found a home, even though it took him a while to figure out that Europe was where he needed to be. Now maybe he can rediscover his shot…. 4-16 no es bueno.

So, Wayne, does European b-ball have relegation like soccer (futbol) for the EuroLeague/Cup/Challenge or individual leagues? Or is it all determined by the play-in games? Not that I understand how soccer works either.
My people call it "sarcasm." - Lauri
The domestic leagues do have relegation.
If you go to the ACB site and scroll down on the left, you’ll see in the standings the 8 orange teams, 8 white, and 2 red. The orange are the teams that make the playoffs. The red are the ones that get relegated. In Spain, the lower league is called the LEB (I believe).
The EuroLeague/Cup/Challenge stuff seems to be different. But I’m not sure how.

How does it works ?
Simply put, a team plays in its national league. Depending on its results in the different national competitions (League, Cup, …), it qualifies for one of the different European championships. So during a season most teams play national and European competitions ( with the european games midweek and the national league games on the weekend).
So your participation to a european competition depends only on your results in the national competition of the past year ( except if you won the european competition which grants you automatic reentry).
Yes, it is. Did you notice the updates on our ex and hopefully future Spurs?

Yes, I did. The numbers on Tiago and Spurnando were especially enlightening.

Come on… do I have to spell it out? The sickness used to play in the Euro Leagues. Tony, too. We need to keep an eye on our future Spurs.

whoah, now i see what you have to deal with, it was tough, but he had 5 turnovers, and one steal =/. BR stands for balones recojidos (balls picked up), while BP stands for balones perdidos (balls lost). Hope it helps.

Maybe that’s a term we should adopt. We could say “Tim corked two shots tonight.”. Or, “Rage corked the shit out of Kobe tonight”. What do you think?
