San Antonio Spurs waive Marcus Williams
And then there were 15.
The Spurs have announced that Marcus Williams has been waived. Considering Malik Hairston's play and the fact Marcus didn't play in the last couple preseason games, this isn't a surprise.
The two remaining decision are: 1) Do they keep Hairston? 2) Do they extend Ian?
We'll know the answer in the next couple days. Hairston by end of day tomorrow and Ian by October 31st.

Not a surprise at all. A question for those who know abut such things: can either Hairston or Mahinmi be assigned to the Toros again?
Hairston, yes. Ian, no.

Yeah… i saw the DNP in the box score of the Pacer’s game, and I was thinking, “maybe Pop told Marcus to pack up his stuff, and the team plane would drop him off where ever he wanted on the ride back…”
Hopefully, he finds his way in the league— he’s a good player.
Most teams are cutting salary, and the ones that aren’t have full 15 man rosters already. I think Marcus would be wise to look for opportunities in Europe, if they’re available. Hell, maybe he could talk to Tony about playing with L’ASVEL.

I’m confident Hairston will be kept. Now the question is will he be actually active or just another suit on the bench. I think he’s played well enough to play as guy number 12. Better than Keith Bogans who is his biggest competition for PT right now.
It just seems likely that Hairston wont see any real time unless Finley gets injured..
You gotta figure the Latin Assassin,Cubits, Blairforce, Red Rocket and Findog are going to get the vast majority of bench minutes….with spot coverage by Yawn and the rat ( yes, " the rat ")

He’ll get to play. The Spurs should be involved in plenty of blowouts this year, enabling Pop to empty the bench.

I think Ian is just an unlucky Bynum. He’s not nearly close to his Toros form. If he could just get there in time, I know he will be more effective. We saw what Ha-riston did with the Toros and look where he is now. If Ian had played last year after coming straight from there, He would’ve rocked.
if, if, if, woulda coulda!
It seems that Ian has hit his ceiling. Hes like that one guy we used to have a couple of years ago. Tall , about 6ft 10, thin, quick guy …cant remember his name.
Sleepless, what do you think Ians ceiling is?

That’s the thing alamobro, we might never know. Some guys get a little better with more playing time, and some get huge improvements. I mean Bonner went from a no body to a solid player just because he played enough minutes (by necessity).
I don’t think he’ll ever get Bonner-lucky minutes wise. He has to do it the hard way, with limited minutes, and that is harder from most players.
Should have kept both...
I don’t give a damn about the contract situation. Williams proved himself a hell of lot more over the off-season than Haislip did.

while i completely agree with you about proving himself to be a better player than haislip, and ignoring the contract situations for a second, I think that you have to look at it in terms of a helping the team perspective. While Williams is a better player than Haislip, having Haislip still helps the team more because of an urgent need that the team still has (guarding hybrid/shooting PF’s). It’s not as urgent as having a third PG, that still hasn’t necessarily proved himself as a third PG effectively. Now, I know that Haislip hasn’t proved yet that he’s a capable defender of those specific players yet, but the potential of having a player that can guard those 4’s is still more important for now than the potential of having a 3 pg (specially considering that we have Manu). Personally, I agree with you and would prefer to have Williams on the team, but if I think about it as the goals of the front office, I don’t blame them.
