“The dude just got a tip dunk, and I said, ‘He ain’t going to get that no more,’?" Blair said.

Then Blair smiled his big smile.

"That’s a lesson learned, OK?" he said. "I apologized for it. You live and you learn."

Even a mention of this story deserves a rec. I’m glad Pop finally gave Blair some credit, only after chastising him of course.

You GOTTA love a guy who tells himself things that make him go out and perform. He did it in the Thabeatdown game last year, and he’s doing it now. “He ain’t going to get that no more.” And then he goes out and sees to it.

Manu Man, I love this kid!

what I also like is that it was on the defensive end of the court. Offensively, I’d say that Blair has a KG-like motor in him, I’m glad that he’s also directing that to the defensive side of the floor. I hope that Pop is strict with him (but then again, Pop won’t be around for Blair’s career =/ ), and that he can handle it, I love this kid too.

Pop’s too soft on the rook. TP feels aggrieved. But I guess Pop’s just waiting the chance to crack the whip on the DeBeast which is the only way to tame a wild animal.

I’m expecting him to be the last one to be impressed on Blair. Playing the role of the father you can never please. and look where TP is now. Classic Pop mind games

Anyways, I will take a new one each week. Maybe I will be starting with actual Blair’s words. He’s so quoteable

No one ever got Hill’s treatment, that I remember. Especially not Manu. Don’t you remember the disapproving head-shaking when Manu threw a wild pass into the 10th row?

What I remember is the “You wanna be the fucking coach?” rant from GOML to the Sickness. However, Manu gave as good as he got. Still… that is not a good memory.

I’m still dealing with the trauma.

Sorry, I was at the game. I heard it first hand. It was hilarious and tragic all at the same time. I think it was 2004? I turned to my friend and asked did that just happen? Yep… it did.

Of course, that was before the nicer/gentler Pop. You know… eons and eons ago.

It was not a good moment, but it was funny because Pop couldn’t really think of anything else to say and Manu just kept jawing back at him.

Manu: “You old fart, why don’t you sober up and actually coach just for once in your goddam existence?”

Of course, he probably said that in Spanish.

You know it’s weird… I don’t really remember what Manu said. It was loud enough to know he was jawing back, but not loud enough to overcome the Pop rant. And then he kinda just shut up.

It was so long ago…

I love Blair’s comment. Some players just shrug their shoulders when opposing players make a play on them. Blair on the other hand gets a chip on his shoulder. The man’s relentless.

I agree D’and Tony was no way near as impressive as Blair is right now in the beginning of his rookie campaign.Just imagine what having Pop as a coach could do for Blair’s career. I mean, if he doesn’t call it quits when Timmehh retires.

No problem. I definitely have high hopes for Blair’s future, as do most of us here. Maybe one way to convince Pop to stay would be to convince Duncan to stay (Duncan will convince Pop). And I think maybe in order to get Duncan to stay we’d probably have to win a championship or even 2. Sadly, I don’t think it would really work, Pop doesn’t care about those trophies, he’ll just say, “get off my lawn! I’ve served my duty for this franchise!”

I agree with you that when Tony started out, he was nowhere near the level of production and contribution that Blair is in at the moment. However, which player do you think has/had the higher upside when their careers begun?

I guess he’s all growns up now.

Well come to think of it, just the admiral and the big fundamental. Other than that, you slowly progress but the finished product has been great. How much longer can we expect the Spurs front office to keep pulling draft picks out their ass like this?? You’d figure after all these years the other GM’s would learn and pay more attention to the players in the draft. Not that I’m complaining, of course.

If you mean in preseason yes

But after four games, Tony was the starter. And that doesn’t happen often for a point guard picked 26th. Whereas a center like Aaron Gray can get significant minutes quickly despite a real lack of talent (ok it’s also because it was Chicago).
