Wallpaper: Manu Warm Up (Photo by janieannie)
1024 X 768 (More resolutions after the jump)
Our awesome PTR court side photographer, janieannie, posted the original photo in this fanshot. It's a great picture that a lot of us PTRers enjoyed because of Manu's focus. It also shows off the new warm ups which we all agree are very cool. They kind of served as the inspiration. I threw some Argentine blue/teal in there because I 'm currently refusing to do another gray scale Spurs wallpaper. I ran into some resolution issues converting problems which is why the emblem flips on two of the sizes.

Nice
Nice work, man.
I scrapped my retro diamond wallpaper. I didn’t care for how it was turning out (may just start over from scratch).

I thought it was really good. You should just come back to it in a few weeks and see if you like it again.
After our discussion about the logo and seeing at least two Spurs emblems on cars crooked, I’ve debated writing a fanpost on here about isometric views and orienting Spurs logos.
Nothing against BlaseE’s wonderful wallpaper, but does anyone else have problem using The Sickness as Manu’s nickname?
A few objections:
1. The sickness as in always sick or hurt
2. The sickness as in a team cancer
I know its slangy but I cannot get myself to call Manu The Sickness

I like the wallpaper, but not the nickname. Besides, how can you give the guy a nickname when he already has one? “Manu” is his nickname (real name “Emmanuel”).

I love “the Sickness” in the mix of Manu nicknames. I use it now and again to mix things up. But I feel differently about it on a wallpaper in such a prominent place.

I agree with you about “the Sickness” on a wallpaper, jollyroger. I know the origin, but never really liked it. “El contusion” is still my favorite nickname. I’d like to post a link to the wallpaper on Manu’s website, but I somehow think the nickname might not translate too well to all the Argentines who hang out there.
Maybe if we ask BlaseE nicely, he’ll consider putting “El Contusion” on the wallpaper instead of “The Sickness” and you’ll be able to share with Manu.

Could you link to the origins of El Contusion? that is another one I dont get

Brent Barry just named him that for playing reckless…contusions are bruises and Brent Barry was trying to make it like a Spanish version with the “El”
Yeah, it’s one of those gibberish would-be-Spanish words English speakers make up that hurt my ears… Like “no problemo”.
I’d just explain the origin of the nickname.

But… I like using no problemo, in a non-Spanish mocking way :(

It works within the context you probably using it: other English speakers. If you ever travel to a Castillian-speaking country, though, it will only get you mocked.

So what’s Castillian for “no problem.” I only know the Chinese translation.

El Contusion sounds pretty stupid in Spanish, for the record. Mainly because “contusión” is a female noun. And “La contusión” sounds stupid, too, for a nickname – using Castillian standards.

If you ask me nicely, I can make the font size bigger on “The Sickness” …
The results of the poll broke me down at first, but now I’m even more passionate about the nickname. This is a PTR wallpaper and that is a PTR nickname…..I don’t mean to be an exclusionist by any means, but just want people to know it is a part of PTR’s history. Does anyone have a link to Powell’s original article where he calls him The Sickness or explains it? I couldn’t find one.

Here it is, even though this’ll steal the thunder from my nickname post (coming soon … ish)
The original page (in all its glory) is here.

“I have a nickname for Manu Ginobili. What you’ve all been waiting for, no doubt. I have to give some credit to the very nearly senile Dick Stockton. Half the time he says “mah-no” instead “ma-new,” which led to this:
The Sickness.
How bad is that? And by “bad,” I mean good. Or do I? The Wife thinks it’s downright awful; even calling it geigh at one point. I explained to her that “sick” means good, but she wouldn’t have any of that. Didn’t matter.
But I like the way it sounds. And the way Manu plays is sort of a twisted, warped version of normal NBA basketball. Wrong-footed jumpers, long-striding through the lane attempting layups no one else even sees, behind-the-back-across-the-court passes. And, AND, it doubles as a sweet wrestling OR And-1 nickname. He’s The Sickness."

See? Just post that in Manu’s forum. Good work, jolly.

Some PTR members may not have been around when “The Sickness” was bandied about more frequently. Site founder Matthew Powell (also named “sungo” now, apparently) came up with it. He explained it as being “sick” in the slang sense (e.g. “his game is sick!”) but also having a double meaning — oppenents are annoyed by him like he’s a nagging sickness.
Like some of you, I am surprised by how many ppl didn’t like the nickname.
Exactly. That’s how I really loved “The Sickness” and started lurking at PtR, because that nickname invented by Matthew is such a perfect fit for Manu’s game.

Not crazy about " the sickness" as a nickname.
How about " Obi Wan Ginobili "
I think " the Dagger " has a nice ring to it too…

I’ve always liked the Sickness, but maybe it’s because I also think of Matthew and Michael’s definition of the word.
It also reminds me of the Disturbed song…. Down with the Sickness.
I like.

I also like The Sickness, I propose that everyone who doesn’t like it, is branded with an F on their forehead, as in False PTR-er. It will send the right message that we’re inclusive and respectful of different opinions, to a degree.

Translate “The Sickness” to Spanish and what do you get? “La Enfermedad”. Would you call Manu that in Spanish?

Translate Spurs in Spanish and you get, Espuelas, I would not call them that.

Sure it doesnt sound as good, but at least the meaning translates. With the sickness it doesnt.

Does FinPerro translate or do we need to reconsider that one too? or does that one offend everyone too???
Or in German, FinHund?
