We doing another PTR fantasy league this year on yahoo?
Last season as other Pt'Rockers become less and less interested in their fantasy teams, the unthinkable occurred and the crown of BEST IN UNIVERSE fell to me an unlikely kangaroo lover from the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
It was all over the local papers though some of you may have missed it due to a percieved geographic insignificance. Anyway I would like to strive for irrelevance again this season with any and all who are interested.
The Duncan Ultimatum was the iron fisted commissioner last season, and cleared the way for my win by suspending half the league for leaving the bench. Comedy gold.
Is it on again then?

League Details
I have set the machine in motion on Yahoo. It’s a rotisserie league 20 team max with all the usual bits and bobs, trades all to be voted on etc.
To join all you need to do is click on this Link. Then insert the following league I.D & Password. As they say in the classics Bob is then your mothers brother.
The league I.D is: 243222
the password: ptr
I figured we’d do an auto draft simply because a huge part of the spurs base seems to be from around the world and it’s not fair to expect everyone to be online at the same time.
Give us a yell if you have any issues.
P.S Matt Bonner is not allowed to join the league this year his disruptive comments and negative outlook made it a real punish towards the end of last season. No one cares that we didn’t include 3 Pointers Made as a category matt..get over yourself.

yes, can you provide a quick explanation of the main things to do for those of us who have never joined a fantasy team?

The Nuts & Bolts of it
You pick 10 players plus 3 bench players 13 in all.
You draft players automatically based on rank.
You can rank them from 0 to 330 (there is an automated ranking system already if you don’t want to take the time to do this) if you like and you are assigned the player available to you with the highest ranking.
The box score statistics such as points, rebounds, field goal %, Free throw %, three pointers made, steals, blocks, turnovers, these players put up in game are the statistics which we will be using to play.
In the format we will be playing, all your players statistics are combined and then you are ranked against the combined stats of all the other teams in the league.
For example your team might have 1000 rebounds(1st in league), 200 3pointers made(10th in league), 150 steals(5th in league), and 50 blocks(19th in league).
If theres 20 teams in the league, 1st gets you 20 points, 10th gets you 10, 5th gets you 15, 19th gets you 2.
so you’d have 47 points.
We will be playing with more categories than that but thats the basic ideal.
Each position in your team can be used for 82 games. You can rotate your players in and out of these positions but regardless only 82 games worth of statistics can be used.
You can trade players between each other and basically they get voted on by the league. So if your going to try to trade Timmy Duncan for Yinka Dare the rest of the league will vetoe it because the trades lopsided.
Any further questions i’d be happy to answer.

excellent explanation. thanks. How many teams are you expecting on having? And, after the draft has occured, is the only way of getting a new player through a trade?

you can pick up players in free agency or in waivers.
Every team will have a waivers priority. If a team releases a player he goes to waivers and other teams can claim him. After the waiver period is over the claimant with the best waiver priority gets the player.
If nobody claims a player after the waiver period has passed the player becomes a free agent. Teams can sign free agents instantaneously. First come first serve.

fantasy league
This sounds like fun, but I have never played before. I set up a team, Roundball Circus, what is the next step? When is the draft?

This is a personal preference but can I lobby against a rotisserie league. I think it tends to breed indifference by those who start losing. At least in a weekly head-to-head league you can still throw a wrench into people’s plans if you win a late week despite being out of playoff contention. I’ll play either way, but maybe we could take a vote or something.

i hear where you are coming from
however the general apathy you are speaking of has happened to me in all forms of the game.
The main thing i have against head to head leagues is the prevelance of people who spam drop and pick up players on a daily basis making it very difficult to compete casually. At least this way it’s a hell of a lot easier for people who are starting out.
But yeah basically i’d go head to head most of the time.

You can change settings to when the stats of newly picked up players start taking effect, right? That way, it will discourage people from constantly dropping and picking up players like it’s a flea market.

if it’s not too much, please let me know when we’re going to be doing the draft and stuff. I don’t think I’ve checked my yahoo email account in 8 years (wow that makes me feel old). And I haven’t gone back to the league website since i joined.

It's going to be an auto draft mate
so all you need to do is keep your rankings where you want them and it’ll fire off nicely.
As i stated a little way up the page the geographical diversity of this sites base makes it very difficult to envision a fair scheduling time for a live draft.

it’s automatically done atm by Yahoo. You can go into the draft central section of the page however and alter your picks.
Very straightforward.

A rules request
I’m pretty excited about the prospect of being in a deep league like this. One question however, do you think we could get rid of 3pt fg% as a statistical category? I feel like it makes 3pt shooters much more valuable than they should be, plus, I couldn’t use my draft rankings that I use for other leagues.
