Game Thread #33: vs Sixers
Philadelphia 76ers at San Antonio Spurs, Jan 3, 2009 7:30 PM CST
It's been a long time since I rock and rolled,
It's been a long time since I did the Stroll.
Ooh, let me get it back, let me get it back,
Let me get it back, baby, where I come from.
It's been a long time, been a long time,
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time. Yes it has.
Yeah, it's good to be back.

Hey ya’ll! I’m a first-time poster, but I’ve been reading for a few months now. You guys are all so fun/funny, and I hope you won’t mind a girl hanging out with you every once-in-awhile. I’m starved for fellow Spurs fans, stuck at stuffy Harvard with a bunch of Celtics lovers. Ugh.
Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi.
Go Spurs Go!
Man, a girl huh? I don’t know about this.
Have you been out to Watch City Brewery? I think that is the name of the place. Great beer.

We will take over this site one day… mark my words!

Yeah, I don't usually post on game nights
But I’m at work tonight so I figured, why not? All the Aussie’s do it… so I should, too.

Yup, 80% of success is just showing up.

Oh c’mon, it won’t be that bad. I’ll blend in and be one of the guys. Promise.
I love Watch City Brewing Co! You’ve been? I’ve celebrated many a passed exam there. Sam Adams too—it’s kinda touristy, but I love that White Ale.
Great, now I’m thirsty…
Yeah, about 6-7 years ago I traveled up to Waltham for work on a fairly regular basis. We hit Watch City a couple times for growlers to go and some food.

It’s good stuff. I’ve traveled quite a bit, but when it comes to beer, you can’t really beat Boston and Texas. God bless the USA!
The beer in Dresden was right up there. I’ll have to think about that one for a while.

I have been to the Czech Republic, but it was quite a few years ago, before my beer taste buds had fully developed. Maybe I need to go back and do some taste-testing.

Damn you ATS, you know me better than I know myself.
I’m gonna miss this since I’ll be spending some time with the love of my life who just came here from Chicago, so I’ll try to put up a fish pic later.
Also, I hope everyone doesn’t trip over themselves trying to impress the new girl. And if you do, do not try to do so with fish pics, or I WILL PUT YOU IN THE GROUND.
How did you know?? Fish pics really get to me… lol
Hipuks, have fun with the love of your life. These guys will probably not admit it, but I can safely say I’m a little jealous.

old classic rock music theme for the second game in a row…….me likes, but get back to me when you start quoting Rush. too bad i wont be around to throw around some zep lines at you later. for now, i will just say the the “winds of Thor are blowing cold.”
on a PUT YOU IN THE GROUND note, I just scooped up a trio of dead squirrels from my back yard. it seems that my dog had ummmm……..put them in the ground. the bad news = that was not a ot of fun on a saturday morning. the good news = i will spare you guys the pictures.
I love Geddy Lee and Alex and Neil.
What’s your favorite Rush tune, bones?

its either natural science or freewill depending on my mood. yup my favorite album is permanent waves.
I like freewill, but I’m also partial to YYZ and the Spirit of Radio… 2112 is probably my favorite album.
I am happy. I am proud. - Manu Ginobili
since i dont really know any of you personally, i can divulge that most of my passwords and/or ID codes in lofe are 2112. i could go on and on about rush nerdiness, but ill stop for now

Just outta curiosity, where are you from originally. I’m a military brat, so I’ve been quite a few places…… Great to have a girl on here—I’ve been trying to convert my sisters, but it’s a chore lol.
Also, congrats on being @ Harvard. Visited the campus up there and almost ended up applying, but I’m a wimp when it comes to cold weather and I made the decision/mistake to become an air force cadet so I wound up at Texas A&M. Anyway, welcome!

Cyphotilapia Frontosa “Zaire Purple”. This is a striking Cichlid from Lake Tanganyika in Africa. They grow up to 12 inches and from what I’ve read they’re pretty smart and can be hand fed. They’re deep water fish, so when they bring them up, they have to do so in stages, otherwise they get the bends, just like divers. They’re piscivores, feeding at night on helpless little bastards. Pretty cool fish overall, though I have to say, it does have a bit of the…um…retarded look to them. And by retarded I mean they can do anything! Okay, I stole that line from Sarah Silverman.

Another word of advice
STAY OFF of ATS’ lawn.
"Well if I am truly crazy, don't you know I like my life that way"
The most important rule, though, is you must never, ever, question anything Manu Ginobili does. It is perfectly acceptable, however, to muse about trading Tony Parker.

Well, duh about Manu. Besides Timmy, Manu is second on my list of “I wanna have his baby”.
No, I don’t really have a list. Not written down anyway.
I’m on the same page as you all with Tony too. So no worries there.
You and half the guys on this blog want to have Manu’s baby. … not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Ah, the dreaded “ATS White Dot Snub”. Those leave deep scars.
"Well if I am truly crazy, don't you know I like my life that way"
Look at the top of the game thread, ATS picks who he thinks has the advantage at each position by posting a white dot next to said position, and in this game he gave it to Philly, Andre Miller, thus the white dot snub.

It’s the wife’s birthday (honest)
But I’ll give it a go.
I’m gonna sound like a complete idiot but..whatever.
Any recap rules?
Yeah, read the January recap FanPost. Don’t be a chauvinist asshole is the basic summary.

G'night all
Glad to be back amongst you guys and gals. A win is a win is a win is a win, I guess. Off to have dinner.
"Well if I am truly crazy, don't you know I like my life that way"
Enjoy your dinner! Thanks for the welcome…

just got finished wathing this game via DVR/tape delay. blowing these big leads and going on extended shooting funks is gonna destroy my innards – and likely send our boys to an early exit if the ship doesnt get righted.
timmy didnt even jump for joy when frenchy tossed in the game winner.
He was like “WTF tony, how can you be happy to win against this shitty team”
"It's a basic truth of the human condition that everybody lies. The only variable is about what."
i somehow avoided catching the final score all evening, so was watching earlier today without knowing what happened. i was kind of shitting my pants and blurting out expletives in the second half. not sure if that was more comical or sad.
just picked up this quote from roger mason jr on last nights game. kind of a moniker for the season so far:
"When some of those shots stopped going in, our defense didn’t pick up. That’s human nature, but it’s not championship basketball."
I always thought of some of our other FAs (Derek Anderson, Stephen Jackson) as ringers, on the team but not really part of it. Romaju gets it; I feel like he’s a true San Antonio Spur through and through.
Catch the Spurs Spirit! It's a Fast-breakin' Fiesta!
