Game Thread #36: Vs. Magic
So, fellas, this is it. This is what we were waiting for. The Big One. We need to hold the line - our wives and sons are counting on us. We are at the edge of the precipice, a step away from certain death, but we will take that step and venture into the unknown on nothing but faith and guts.
Anyone wants to go home? You can do that - I won't hold it against you, you dickless wusses. But you will miss the Spurs' slow build up towards greatness: you will miss Duncan's dominance in the paint, Tony's mastery of the three-pointer, Hill and Mason's transformation into super-scrubs, Finley's discovery of the fountain of basketball youth, Bonner's emergence as the best redhead to ever play this game, Manu's majesty, Pop's guile.
Teams overlook tired old Spurs. They will do so again, and before they notice we'll be upon them. SNARLING at them! ...In a polite manner. They will see RAGE in our eyes! ...And a gracious smile in our lips. We shall overcome! Come playoff season, we will be right in the thick of it. You should know this - now believe it.
...
Seriously, though, the piece-of-cake part of our schedule is definitely over. From now on we'll have to face the very best this league has to offer, and we'll start tonight with the Magic. They're the second best team in the East at this moment, considering the Celtics' sudden collapse, and have the league-best record on the road. That's no joke, guys. I won't even elaborate on how they picked us apart earlier on the season - but for the record, that was our worst loss so far.
Let's do some real previewing, after the jump:

Breakdown
Keys To The Game
Some other readingI couldn't find many Orland Magic fansites, but the ones that I did find are worth checking: Third Quarter Collapse (An SB Nation blog - isn't that the perfect name for a Spurs blog? Almost as active as PTR, too, and the main writer, Ben Q Rock, is money.) Other things of possible interestSo I was checking Third Quarter Collapse and noticed that their latest post was about Garnett's award as defensive player of the trimester. Surprisingly enough, the poster thought Dwight Howard had been robbed, and put a poll that asked the regulars' opinion. Guess what? Only three brave fellows voted for KG, and their IPs are probably in the hands of a hacker as we speak. Still, that's loyalty, and I expected nothing else. So I'm adding a poll to this post to test your loyalty. Let's show them how it's done! By the way, did you guys hear that the crab dribble exists after all? It doesn't resemble LeBron's walk in any way or fashion, but it exists. Check out Basketbawful's post on it. The following video was done by Didn't Draw Iron, a great blog you should all bookmark: It all makes sense now In fact, when I did my rant on Garnett I forgot to mention this site as the source of the video summarizing his bouts of superdickery. I'm a poopy head, and I apologize. In fact, check out his own rant: it's worth the time. (He even used some of the same pictures... Plagiarism!) Anyone else reading Farmar's blog at Playboy? I wholeheartedly approve. Oh, and this was in the Clippers recap, but in case you don't click on the links, don't miss the worst airball ever. Even I can do better. Did you notice that Stampler's back? And somewhat cheery, too. Life's good. New here? Stay around - PTR's a great place to meet new people. So much love. UPDATE: The Celtics actually won today. They beat the poor widdle Raptors, with Calderon playing like ass and Bosh not far behind. Check the CelticsBlog post-game thread if you want to put Matthew's post in perspective. Holy crap. Wonder what they would've said if they'd lost. Game feedsCheck this game thead at gametime for specific links to good quality feeds. If you arrive late in the game, there game feed links are usually among the first 50 posts of the thread. ATDHE.netPPNBA MyP2P
Recap: spurchief will be writing this recap, so I'm already looking forward to that. In case anyone here feels like writing one for future games, here are the guidelines. Sign up now, don't be shy. (Although maybe now that Stampler is back he'll be doing some of them. Or all of them? Stampler?)

That too a while… off to play some Mass Effect. Being alone for a few days is kind of liberating – but don’t tell my GF.
I’m excited about an actual game blog as opposed to the flirt fests that have been going on this weekend. Unfortunately but fortunately I’ll be watching this game at the local sports bar where everybody knows your name and no one pays for beer. I have no idea how they stay in business. Spurs 98 Magic 96.
I’m hurt. Really, the sting is more than I can handle.

Yo yo
Sorry I haven’t been around much lately. I’ve been travelling from place to place in these great united states, spreading my opinions far and wide on subjects such as politics, religion, and money (and any other subjects I can think of that are inappropriate in polite company). Anyway, I wanted to say that I am going to the game tonight and I am currently writing this from a San Antonio area Comfort Suites. So wish me luck.
I would volunteer to do a recap, but i’m sitting in the upper deck, so I think our friends in Australia, Argentina, Croatia, Egypt, etc will have better views than me.
Go Spurs!
I'm comfortable winning -- Emmanuel Ginobili
Hope all those you know and care about back in Palestine are doing Ok. Personally, I’m glad you are here instead of there right now.
I had a co-worker who’s family — wife and three kids — was in Lebanon on vacation when the shit went down a couple years ago. Stressful to the level I can’t even imagine.

I want the Spurs to win this with Parker dominating. Its not that important to our record (2nd in the west), not important for me (after all, the cavs swept us in 07 but in the playoffs it was a different story) its not that important for Manu (he still has a lot of time to get into shape and reach his average level of play) or even Popovich (he is too drunk to care in january) but the frenchie…..I want him to show what a real little scoring PG looks like, I want him to suffocate that Nelson punk into a 8 point, 4-12, 4TO night. For the love of God and Eva do it!
"It's a basic truth of the human condition that everybody lies. The only variable is about what."
Oh BTW, about the air ball, funny but in my high school team there used to be 5 shots like that per game (and lets not talk about trainings) . The level of play is not very good in my city (consider that I was the starting center and key player of the NÂș2 team in the city)
"It's a basic truth of the human condition that everybody lies. The only variable is about what."
Parker needs to destroy nelson, if not its gona be along night. Do you remember what tony’s teardrop looked like? That was my favorite tony finish. Duncan has to be more aggressive . I can’t remember why or how we got rid of hedu? he is also a headache when he gets rolling by driving or the 3 ball. He makes them much harder to defend.
GO SPURS GO
I cant wait to see this game. I hope the Spurs can show they are among the 4 best teams in the league.. that means it doesnt matter if we lose tonight for a couple of points. But Im pretty sure that tonight will be: Spurs 94 – Magic 90
Go Spurs Go
It should be a very entertaining game tonight. Im sure Parker will have a great game. Hopefully we will see some flashy moves by Manu.

YAY!
The game is on NBATV!
You guys and gals are all so freakin awesome! You make me want to quit my job and spend my time on PTR all day. I have literally spent all day reading the posts I missed out on over the last couple of days. The Friday and Saturday night threads were good reads.
Also, nice to hear from the Prez and VP, Powelldogg and Stampizzle.
Not a bad way to spend a Sunday my friends, let’s get ready to rumble!

I loved that hustle play from Finley. He stopped Howard from getting an offensive rebound and easy follow up slam dunk, then ran down the ball and saved the possession, and the Spurs get a bucket on the other end. Hustle play of consequence …. the types of plays that go a long way to changing the course of a game.

gotta give credit to the magic’s hot hands. almost every player SVG put in there made a three (if marcin gortat made one, i’m gonna hand them the larry o’ brien already). but have faith… we gave them a good fight and they ain’t gonna have nights like these in the playoffs

Hey guys,
What happened here? (recap will explain)
How did the Magic manage to make 14 from 22 from 3 pt land?
Was it just hot shooting or bad 3 pt D by us?
No amount of bad D can produce that percentage. Not that the D was good.
Well, I’m going to bed. We’ll see what happens tomorrow. Take heart in a hard-fought game against the elite of the East. Make no mistake – the Magic are one of the best two teams in the East, and one of the best 3 overall. We were damn close.

"It's a basic truth of the human condition that everybody lies. The only variable is about what."
My apologies for missing the game. My beloved sister decided it would be an excellent idea to do all her homework on the last day of vacation, and give me no information whatsoever about it, only telling me an hour before gametime that she would be needing the computer for an extended period of time.
To say the least, I was exacerbated at her decision but could do nothing but concede the computer.
So I miss the fucking game and we lose after they go motherfucking crazy shooting threes, way to fucking go Spurs. I’ll have the halftime fish pic next game, come hell or high water.

You know what I hate more than anything...
…when the Spurs lose? Especially to a ‘younger’ / inexperienced team? Selfishly, it’s not the fact that they actually lost the game. It’s about how everybody who knows anything about basketball (or doesn’t at all, for that matter) talks about how old and dusty the Spurs are and how ’they’re done, through, gone, finished, etc.’
So, until the next win, brace yourselves. Let’s just hope the next win is against a .500 or better team, or else we’ll have to hear about THAT too.

Was thinking exactly that.
8 years from now, when Duncan, Manu and Tony are long gone, I think I’ll start game threads just for myself, laugh at my own jokes and just try to keep it together, dying a little bit inside with every “Player-dog!” that no one shares.
And then Matthew will tell me the team is lottery-bound.
i’m trying to stay in the present, because after the spurs-lakers series, i thought how much longer we’d have Duncan and Manu roaming the court (as well as Pop leaving when Duncan does), and i got absurdly sad. i don’t want to think about it again until i see that sad, sad day. i might cry. jk, badasses don’t cry

And I want Kobe to break a leg. …I mean, like in the theater!
I’ll probably root for the Lakers to win in 3 OT. I don’t think we will be able to catch the Lakers in the standings.

Nope, not gonna happen. Best we need to be hoping for now is the lakers wearing themselves down to nothing come playoffs. Or injuries, it’s probably okay to pull for those too. I’m not going to be sad if their team bus careens into a canyon and explodes on impact.
