I read his post, and he’s definitely right. Matt’s a wise one and doesn’t pull punches, that’s for sure. I agree with absolutely everything he says, but concede that you can’t editorialize or quantify the “leadership” and “drive to win” that is Tim Duncan. Add 2 parts Pop and 3 parts hungry Manu, and I think all analysis gets thrown out. We’ll see though, I’m still hoping and secretly optimistic.

Here’s what I’m thinking.
You shouldn’t ever do something for somebody else by coercion. You should only do it if you want to do it. Otherwise, I think it leads to resentment.
What if you up the stakes a bit? And it is a guy who wants a girl to follow him to a town so he can go to school. She just has to give up her friends. Unless she wants to, she shouldn’t do it.

Hmmmmm. 1.) What kind of jackass allows things like that to be found? Seriously, invest in a lockbox, bro.
2.) Is the current girl potentially a keeper? If so, get rid of the box.
3.) If the current’s NOT a keeper, explain that to her that she has a box too and that more freak-outs will only fill HER box with negative things. That’ll shut her up.
4.) If the past feelings are so strong as to prevent getting rid of the box out of honor and respect to the new feelings; ditch the new feelings and pursue the old feelings again.

That’s really what it boils down to for my opinion. If she’s a “keeper,” he shouldn’t have a hard time honoring her by getting rid of the box. If he has a hard time, something’s obviously telling him to doubt his emotions concerning the new one.

That box is a large part of who he is. Any person is the composite of their past experiences. You with your first love. Me with mine. And every person after that including one night stands and us in here. ou can’t throw those away and more than you can deny your feelings. The people I know who do throw those things away, or try to, are very unhealthy.

I understand this, but believe that you HAVE to thrown the stuff away or it shackles you to the memories. Deal with them, and move on. The mere fact that he CAN’T get rid of the box tells me that the new one isn’t really that special. I’m the same way, and have been nearly every time I enter a serious relationship. Gotta get rid of the stuff if I want to take the next one seriously. But it only happens at a point later, and if the new one hasn’t “requested” it.
And yes to the pics. It would be too difficult to look at them and not think of those memories, thus dishonoring the woman currently in my life that I was committed to and loved.
