JR Smith resigns with the Thuggets.
So a first round exit this year?
We better make some serious noise next offseason or we're toast.

Let's not get carried away
All this talk about early playoff exits (and I’m not busting on you, Linix, lots of people have been making comments like this) is simply premature. The truth is that there are too many factors that go into a successful basketball season, for us to know where the Spurs and their main rivals will be come April ’09.
Hey, everybody cheers for the Spurs in their own way, but I don’t see the point in expecting playoff disaster (and that’s what a first round exit would be) before the season even begins.

That being said, the Thuggets can have J.R. Smith — after all, we have James Gist, don’t we?

So adding JR Smith would have been the magic elixir for delivering a title to San Antonio next year?

Adding JR Smith wouldn’t have been a magic elixir, but I’d rather see him than Michael Finley in the rotation. Just my opinion. I know some Spurs fans are going to say he doesn’t fit the Spurs mold, but who cares. This isn’t a church league. As for what he brings to Denver it won’t matter much because they aren’t making the playoffs this season.

truth
even with a volatile reputation, i KNOW our big 3 (especially timmy) could put him in line. stephen jackson in ’03 was fine on our team (though i do think people blow his “thug” reputation out of proportion).
then again, no point in speculating on what could have been. lets hope Finley can make a few more big shots in the playoffs.

the Spurs do not defeat you so much as they grind you into tiny shards of psychological wreckage.

Roger Mason will be a better player for us than J.R. Smith would have been. You guys will see, oh yes, you will see [cue creepy laughter].
