video: sketch compilation

A compilation of all the Spurs sketches I've made during the past few months. Mostly Manu sketches, of course. And a couple of Tim sketches, and one of Tony. The first few ones are from the playoffs this year, especially the action shots. The first Manu closeup where he looks pissed was when he received the SMoY award. The second where he looks dejected is from the Lakers series. The third one where he looks bored is from a press conference picture in Argentina. The last one is from the 2004 Gold Medal ceremony.

And I only typed those to fill up the word quota.

Wow

i am not an art connoisseur by any means.. but i can really appreciate the effort you put in to draw these up! keep ‘em coming!

Thanks

My favorite one is the sketch from the 2004 Olympics. Particularly because I usually avoid drawing pictures that show teeth because they usually turn out bad.

I’m with spurred on not really being knowledgeable about art. I think they are all good, but you completely NAILED Tony. That may as well have been a photo of him how well you captured that frustrated/dejected look he wears.

It’s more of a spaced out look he puts on when he sits on the bench.haha. Thanks. That’s one of my favorite pics, too.

The first time I tried drawing Tony, it looked like a cross between TP and Ime.lol

no entiendo...

I really really want to learn Spanish. I think it’s a beautiful language. I’ve been trying to learn off and on, but there’s no one to practice with, where I am now. So…I translated that through google.lol

Anyway, thanks for the very nice comments. All of you guys. There’s more of my artwork in youtube, actually, if you look at the other videos I’ve posted over there. This one is already the fourth one. I’ve done some ambigrams and spinoffs of the “where amazing happens” commercials, but I mostly do sketches.

LatinD, I first heard the song when I watched a Manu interview in ESPN Estudio. It’s called Milonga de Manu and is sung and composed (if I’m not mistaken), by Nestor Tomassini. I think he is also the father of one of Manu’s childhood friends. If you actually watch Manu’s part in the 2007 Championship celebration, they start playing the intro as Manu stands up.

Anyway, you can watch the video here: . Nestor Tomassini is also in it.

Oops

Sorry, carina. I was sure you knew Spanish, for some reason. Probably because “Carina” is a common name over here. Thought I’d comment in Spanish, to express proper excitement for once. I sound far too stilted in English.

Regardless, I’m more than amazed at your work. The ambigrams are particularly baffling. I remember seeing them in your ST sig, and they’re definitely unique. Where did you learn to do that? Or is it an innate talent?

Thanks for the info. I’m going to look for that song – I do remember listening to it somewhere, now that you mention it. I’m sure it’s only the first Manu song of many to come.

I’ll repeat what I said above: thanks for drawing and sharing. Kudos to you.

Thanks

No worries, LatinD. I actually liked it. haha. I mean your thinking that I spoke Spanish. As I’ve said, I really want to learn the language. I love reading it, though I can only capture a few words. Btw, are you Argentine?

I made my first ambigram in 2006, the ginobili one. It was very difficult to do. But after the first one, the next ones were much easier to do. As if you just had to scale a wall and it’s all free-fall from there. But it’s not something I do regularly. They usually come about when I’m bored and they usually come in clusters. That is, I don’t make one for a couple of months, and then make three or four in a few days.

When Manu retires, Argentina should rewrite their whole national anthem. lol

Thanks for the nice comments too. I wasn’t quite sure if I should post them here. Now I know you guys won’t complain.haha.

I’m 100% Argentine meat. For better of for worse.

I’m working on Manu’s Anthem on my free time. So far I have this: “Manu, we want your baby.”

And you’re welcome. You deserve them – truly great work. Keep it up!

by LatinD on Aug 18, 2008 6:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Careful with those lyrics, LD. Telling someone that you want their baby, in English, could sound like you want them to have a baby and so that you can take it from them. That could make Mrs. Manu unhappy — and, as you know, if Mama ain’t happy … ain’t nobody happy. So, a less than happy Mrs. Manu would mean an unhappy Manu. And if Manu isn’t happy, then it’s likely that the Spurs wouldn’t be happy. And if the Spurs aren’t happy, what chance does PtR have? So, let Manu keep his baby, please!

I hope I’ve made myself clear.

I guess it’s comforting to know that when I claim I want someone’s baby people imagine a child robber instead of some sort of hermaphrodite.

GREAT work, Carina. It’s really refreshing to see someone so talented and passionate about their art. Thanks for sharing it all with us; keep it coming and good luck to you!
