Well fuck me sideways
Maggette just agreed to a deal with Golden State.
It's so recent that it isn't on espn's site yet. I got the alert on my phone.

Are you kidding me? what in the blue hell do the Warriors need Maggette for. I guess he fills the void in their shooting guard position. OH WAIT they already have like SIX other players that share his position. Talk about quick to pull the trigger. They have all this money and feel they must need to take the best FA around even if they don’t need him instead of actually using to acquire someone that fits in.
If this goes through Golden State can enjoy another 14 year playoff drought.

and brand goes to...
..the 76ers? oh well, so much for him and Baron Davis being pals and being on the same team. As seen w/ maggette, that whole talk about players taking less money for a ring is BS..money talks

Why couldn’t Baron and Brand play together? BD is going to the Clips and EB could still re-sign w/the Clips, especially now that Maggette’s off the books.

Well if Smith leaves then the Hawks will easily retain Childress.
The latest news is that the Clippers are going to make a run for Smith.

Says here that the Warriors are paying him 50mill over 5 years. For that price, they can have him.

Wow...
Can’t say I’m not surprised to see GS over pay for Maggette and to see Brand leave the Clips. Looks like this blew up in B. Davis’ face after all.

As pissed as I was to first see this, I’ve actually calmed down somewhat. Let him chase the bucks vs. playing within a goal-oriented team. Abbott has a great piece on TrueHoop now about CM, and I can’t argue with any of the points he made. I’m starting to believe that it’s quite likely we might have dodged a bullet with this one. I’m just going to fall back on the faith in the braintrust, and assume that they have a plan which will prove soon to be brilliant. There’s still other great (perhaps better, even) options out there for us…

It really wasn’t much a risk for the Spurs. If he worked out it would’ve gotten us a potential fourth scoring threat, and an athlete on the perimeter. If he just didnt fit with the Spurs, with only a MLE contract, trading him would’ve have been as difficult as say it is now with the stupid contract he got from Golden State.

So now we hope the hawks match any offer for Josh Smith and we steal Childress from them i suppose.
Im running out of appealing scenarios…

Now what?
JR, Azubuike, Gordon, Monta Ellis? Most of them are restricted, but I gotta imagine they could get at least one, from a pure talent standpoint Id say JR….this was disappointing for sure, but I agree with the previous statements, going to Golden State seems an odd choice, theyre not really ready to compete with the western heavy weights.
Okay, just so I understand it... in your wildest fantasy, you are in hell. And you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil.

I knew Maggette was going to do this. I can’t knock him chasing that paper though. I say make a push for Azubuike or JR Smith. The Spurs aren’t going to break the bank for anybody, so I don’t know how this is going end up.

This didn’t surprise me in the least. I was trying to talk myself into Maggette but in truth I’ve never really been a fan of his or been all that impressed by his game. He’s just a chucker who doesn’t give you much of anything in terms of rebounding, passing, defense or team play. In short, he’ll make a perfect Warrior. They’re basically the Diet Coke Nuggets now, congratulations. I’m not going to be upset that he’s not a Spur because you can’t miss what you’ve never had.
Where do the Spurs go from here? I don’t know, but it doesn’t look good. If they want to keep Azuibuike now, they certainly have the cap room to do so. They lost not just Davis but also Pietrus, so I doubt they want to lose both their backup wings (unless they want to give 20+ mins a night to Bellinelli, which I doubt they’d do).
Childress would be a god send. He would fill every need, but I can’t see Atlanta not matching his offers. And I don’t care how talented J.R. Smith is, I cannot be talked into him. He’s poison.
I guess we’ll see what happens. At least they’re trying and now completely oblivious to their weaknesses, despite Pop’s declarations stating otherwise.

Per LA Times, the Warriors just offered Ronny freakin Turiaf a contract of about 4 years 17million. Clearly they don’t really care much for Azubuike.

agreed with dennard and stampler. maggette could have been a nice fit for the spurs insomuch as what his body can do. its his above ths shoulders game made me a bit tense about him. i was also trying to talk myself into liking the move because of that solid 4th option thing that the spurs so badly need.
not sure which happened first, but i only saw the brand to philly story before going to bed last evening. as soon as i saw that, i figured maggette to be going somewhere else for more money.
I like Childress, but don’t really see him as the answer. Given what the Spurs will likely seek, I also desire him most though. I’m not too wild about Azbook and I’m also scared to death of JR – but will probably give both of them a small window to earn my trust as a fan if they come on board.
No matter what happens, it appears that next year’s roster wont have a new front line type of player – and at the end of the day, this is why I was trying to get myself amped up about corey maggette.

For many athletes, it’s all about the money. Maybe Maggette will be able to buy a championship ring someday…

I agree with those who mentioned my man J-Chill as the best remaining option. If Atlanta is forced to overpay to keep Josh Smith, then maybe, just maybe they will balk at paying the full MLE for Childress. The only problem is that the Spurs will be hesitant to tie up their MLE for two weeks while Atlanta ponders a counter offer. During that period all of the remaining backup plans could disappear. However, given that J.R. Smith and Kelenna Azubuike are the only likely other targets, that Smith has as at least as many negatives as he does positives, and Kelenna has the potential to be a colossul bust in the Spurs system (or just a ho-hum mediocre contributer), I think it is worth the chance. Maybe the Clipps will offer Josh Smith a huge contract? If so, the Spurs definitely need to move on Childress.
As for losing Maggette, it is upsetting, but not a huge blow. He would have been a nice pickup for the MLE, and a great 4th scorer, but he is really just like a better version of J.R. Smith. I am definitely wary of a guard with such an atrocious assist to turnover ratio. Though he can score or get to the line at will, and rebound quite well, he would do nothing to get his teammates involved with the game, and would fall asleep on the defensive end. His individual offensive prowess might have been enough to offset his shortcomings, but then again maybe not.

I know one thing is certain
JR Smith, Josh Childress, Kelenna Azuibuke. I don’t give a damn which player sign or attempt to sign. Make a move, standing pat is not an option. That is one thing that is certain. The league has changed. Getting guys on the wing who can run and create their on offense is a must have.

Press-enterprise reports that he agreed to the offer, but his agent won’t confirm or deny the rumor. Regardless the Lakers would have 7 days to match the offer.
