Summer League: Game Thread #1

Let the money raising begin.  I'm not here for me.  I'm for US.  So let's get this thing started.

I'll donate $2 for anybody who donates during this thread.  Powell is matching your donation (to a limit).  You have to post in the thread that you donated for me to match.  And I'll verify with Powell, because I know SiMA's evil ass will try to pull some sneaky shit.

go to this thread to find the 'Donate' button.  It's right there.

The game is being shown on nba.com.  Go to the scoreboard and click on 'Watch' under the Spurs game.  I think they are on a 15 minute delay so don't freak your shit if it isn't working right away like I did the other night.

Here is our official roster, schedule, and stats for the NBA Summer League presented by EA Sports.

Well, I'm ready.  If I don't have to contribute at least $10 tonight I'm going to be pissed.

I’ll be in and out until game time. Honestly, I’m excited.

NO LURKERS! You can lurk all you want during the regular season, but this is Summer League. Everybody gets to play!

Just so you guys know. I hate Powell. He always posts things like “The Problem with the Spurs” late at night right before I go to bed. How’s a man supposed to sleep on that? He better pray I never find out where he lives otherwise he’ll find out why I got 4th on SiMA’s most-evil list.

That was actually just for THAT day. You’re back on the “Biggest Sweethearts/Favorite People” list now.

In front of or behind the girlfriend who brings over pizza during a playoff game? Think hard on that one.

by Wayne Vore (ATS) on Jul 15, 2008 12:15 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Imagining you ‘behind the girlfriend’ is either disgusting or infuriating. I’m gonna assume you meant that question figuratively.

Behind, but only because she brings the pizza and knows the areas I like to be scratched. But not by much, Manu’s Army values loyal fanship and your passion and zeal have garnered great attention.

by SgtinManusArmy on Jul 15, 2008 12:45 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh yeah. The game also starts 20 minutes after the game in front of it ends. So if they were running behind we have to wait on that.

Hot damn we are underway. First notable, it looks like we are only playing 10 minute quarters. What is this? College?

by Wayne Vore (ATS) on Jul 14, 2008 9:47 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Your starters:

Hill – 3
Ian – 28
Cufee – 10
Hairston – 26
Gist – 24

Hill airballed his first shot.

George Hill back to the line. He’s aggressive at least. He also gets to go against Crittenden tonight so it should be interesting.

Halftime!!! Griz 35. Our adorable Spurs 31.

We scored 11 points that quarter. Blech! Only 15 more halves of summer league ball to go in this fundraiser. And only one contribution.

Remember, this is about lots of LITTLE contributions. Throw in your $2. Or $4. Or $1. It’s all good.

by Wayne Vore (ATS) on Jul 14, 2008 10:43 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Ian has been credited with 3 blocks and he’s challenged/changed at least another 6 shots and he drew a charge on Crittendon. He MIGHT be able to play. Of course, if he turns out to not suck it would be because the Front Office got lucky again and because Powell mailed his pubes to Pop. Just saying, that’s all.

I’m still waiting on that second contribution.

by Wayne Vore (ATS) on Jul 14, 2008 10:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I figure I’ve got 10 or so minutes until the second half and I have the mic so I’ll get a few things off my chest.

When Powell first posted about us donating to Stampler I thought is was a joke. Then, when I finished reading there was no punchline. I was confused. So, I figured out it was for real. Then I was a little put off.

First, I don’t know Powell and Stampler. I have never talked to either. I’ve chatted online with Stampizzle a couple times and Powell has exchanged a couple emails with me. That’s it. So, we are not tight. I don’t know why they run the blog. What their motivations are. etc.

Me, I just was helping out this year with the threads. It was fun. I think the blog really seemed to come along during the year. I was proud when Powell and then Stampler thanked me publicly for the work. No lie, it was a lot of work.

So, I was put off. But, I thought for a long while. About life and stuff. Like why does Stampler write. And why does he do it for nothing. I figure the man has a life. I figure he can’t commit so much time for nothing. But this blog would suck without him. We’d just be some guys hanging out acting like dorks. But Stampler is our feature writer. He’s the guy that separates PtR from the pack. The thing worth actually reading. We can’t lose that.

Alright. The second half is on. time to go.

Spurs win. Spurs win. 78-76. I’m so stoked. What a GREAT way to start the Summer League.

I think we had a couple donations and like 6 or 7 people on the thread. Excellent.

Tomorrow night’s game is 7:30 against the hated New Orleans Hornets. Chris Paul just fell down in his house trying to draw a foul for tomorrow night’s game.

See you guys then.

Tonights Recap:
I think we had two donations for $29.
Add $4 for me (2 X 2)
Add $29 for Powell

That’s $62. Not bad, but easy on me. I want more people with the little donation. Like Hipuks, if he can get his sister off the computer, with the $2 donation.

Just read the thread- good times. Nice job, ATS. As intriguing and captivating as summer league is, I just couldn’t make it tonight. Even WITH the mean references to the SiMA, so you know I really was busy. Couple of points though…
1.) The James Gist Bandwagon is rolling at full steam now. See?! You see what I’m saying? The boy can ball. He’s like a younger Robert Horry with a different name and more talent. I’m already contemplating a Gist jersey.
2.) Did you really say, “I think you are going to have to go up more aggressively than that to score on Ian. He just packed that guys crap?” Holy moly.
3.) Your comment at 9:53- I understand your perspective, I really do. And I sympathize with those around me who are struggling. I’m still in the middle of pondering and contemplating the situation myself. I appreciate all the good work tremendously, but I guess I always operated under the assumption that people wrote about the SPURS only because they loved to write and loved the SPURS; that they did it for the pure joy and the personal satisfaction. I know that’s true for me at least. I mean, it’s a random sports blog. If it ever becomes ‘work’ blogging, then it’s time to re-evaluate where I’m at. I’m a good engineer, but I’m not asking for donations. Nor do I give donations to my mailman because he’s talented or at fireworks displays because they’re so pretty.
But…. I do have compassion and understand, and I do love the PtR familia. I’ll get back to you.
4.) Were you being sarcastic? Arthur WAS available when we picked Curious George, one of the several reasons why I was so pissed at the draft. And there’s no kidney concern, he just has a dipshit agent.

Great thread though, I’ll try to be around for the next one and contribute useless thoughts and comments.

tolliver

after looking back at the box score, i now remember who anthony tolliver is from his days at creighton. i figured him to be a runner/jumper athletic type – he wasnt one of their star players in my estimation, but he did flash the jump shot lat night a little.
