The three draft picks are there. So is Mahinmi.  So is soon to be 27 year old Tom Whitworth.  I seriously cannot even find a picture of the guy.

A Peeteearrer mentioned the Spurs are apparently making an offer to Carlos Delfino.  I have absolutely no idea if this is true, but man, I hope so!  We need another guy who's great friends with Manu, who will come in and basically suck but no one will admit it because he's from Argentina and does "the little things" which is basically code for "cannot do the big things."

Here's the preliminary Spurs 2008-09 slogan:

Three studs and a bunch of suck.

And…as an extra poke in Powell’s eye, Brent Barry is headed to the Rockets.

At least wait until camp to jump ship Powell. Jesus.

If its “three studs and a bunch of suck” at least its with YOUNG suck instead of OLD suck.

At least I hope so.

Don’t feed the alligator. Or tap on the glass. You only encourage him!

Actually, I’m pissed Powell scooped me on the summer league roster. I’ve been looking for it for 3 days and just got busy today. Hmmpphhh!!! Shows you what working gets you.

Has anybody gone to the trouble to actually Youtube Gist? Apparently, he can dunk. I’m trying to find the rainbow over the steaming pile of shit and slowly talking myself into Gist. I’ll announce for certain next week, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to start the James Gist Bandwagon soon.

(This is what our offseason has come to. Kill me now.)

Maybe we’ll have an unofficial San Antonio Spurs James Gist blog, a la James White

I die a little inside with every TrueHoop post linking to great praise of alma mater’s hero, Mario Chalmers, that we passed up. I can’t even pretend to give George Hill a chance to prove that he was the better draft pick. And R.C. Buford’s son played for KU for Vishnu’s sake. I wonder if maybe Pop figures he just couldn’t take a chance on drafting someone that might actually play. Gotta reserve those spots for washed-up veterans again…

Three studs and a bunch of suck? Wasn’t that already our unofficial slogan at PTR?

I kid, I kid.

Actually, I’m almost positive that’s been copyrighted by some club in the Castro district near my home.

Dont sleep on Carlos Delfino

Seriously you dont know shit about Delfino. He is a great talent, and he has never been a guy “who does the little things”. In fact he is a headcase, he is the total oposite of Ginobili… he has problems with every coach he plays…. but put him with Manu and Oberto, and then Delfino will be ok.
He is a durable 2/3 who plays astounding defense (he has defended Lebron, Wade and Kobe as good as you can defend them) rebounds like a madman, its super athletic (just watch some youtube highlights) and surprise!!.... he can create his own shot. He is a decent spot up three point shooter but his strength is attacking the rim. Its not his fault that Larry Brown and Flip Saunders buried him to the bench because they thought playing five guys 40 minutes a game was a good idea. Then in Toronto Delfino was underused as a “bowen-type” player…..

Now that Barry has gone, if the Spurs sign Delfino the spurs will be a much dangerous team.

I agree. Being with Manu would only help him.

Puh-leeze

Sorry, Chilai, but I completely disagree. Well, not completely – Delfino definitely isn’t the guy who “does the little things”. He’s the guy that can do everything one game, and absolutely nothing the next one.

Look, I’ve watched Delfino play for many years. He’s always been the “slow Manu wannabe”. He has the potential to be a great player, but he never fulfilled that potential, and frankly, he never will. I’ve said this before, but he’s the most inconsistent guy we had (have) in the national team.

And last year, I watched Toronto. They really tried to give him an opportunity to shoot 3s, create his own shot, do whatever he wanted to score. Especially after that game where they beat Boston and he made 6/6 triples, or something like that. He just couldn’t do it.

I’m not saying he wouldn’t be an okay addition to the bench, but don’t expect great things from him. In fact, expect him to frustrate the hell out of you, and curse the day he was hired when he fails to contribute in any way for three straight games after singlehandedly beating LA on the road by scoring 30 pts off the bench.

And for the record, I hope that if the Spurs do hire him he proves me wrong and turns me into the PtR joke.
