Thanks for the good season Spurs and PtR users!

I'm like in a glass cage of emotion right now, so I'm going to try and keep this short. We went though some shit this season. 18-3 start, then .500 ball through injury concerns. We saw Manu get snubbed from the ASG, then come out with a vengeance, dropping two 40+ pt games. We saw team favorite Bones get traded, then come back home to us. We saw the guys win one of the best playoff games in history, Game 1 vs PHX (I was there by the way, definetly a top experience in my life other than sex.), with magical shots by Finley and Timmah. We saw the boys make a great comeback against the upstart Hornets, with a gritty game 7 win in their house.

And through it all, we here cursed them, cheered them, came up with rediculous ways to give them the all important MOJO. We tried everything from rally shirts, to rally no shirts, to CRUNK JUICE, to even not watching games. We hated Tony, we loved Tony. We hated Pop, we loved Pop. We hated Horry, we....hated Horry.

It was a great ride guys. Lets hope for an active offseason and a great 08/09.

09 is our year

Because it’s the odd year after a championship. We are 3-0 in those years. :)

Yeah, something was just not right all year long. Still the Spurs could have had this one if Manu had been healthy. Oh well. Come on odd year!

by VWolf on May 29, 2008 11:15 PM CDT   1 recs

i’m not as optimistic about next year, but its been great blogging with all of you and we should be proud of this team and all that they’ve accomplished. not many fans are as lucky as we are and have been blessed to experience history being made like we have. Hope everyone has a great summer.

Not Bitching

As I posted in the game 4 thread. J Crawford realized he was under the microscope, therefore didn’t make blatant calls/non calls throughout the game, but when it really counted got his revenge (hopefully it’s settled). Go ahead and bitch “no conspiracy”, take the high road or what not, the fact remains he figured on having one or two bullets to shoot us with, without being obvious and blasted em when it counted most. Sure we didn’t deserve that game but his non call none the less helped determine the final outcome. Any hoot, I needed to vent that, here’s hoping to a productive offseason, our guys not actually being too over the hill and a good showing next season. GO SPURS!!!

I’m not trying to be a douche, but lets talk about the good times guys, and there were plenty. Game 4 has been hashed out enough. Lets start the healing process people.

by JamesR on May 29, 2008 11:25 PM CDT   0 recs

I thoroughly enjoyed the year on PtR. This live game thread is the shit.

Thanks to Matthew and Michael for taking care of things and keeping us going all year.

As for me, I’ll be dark for a while with work and a short vacation. But rest assured, I’ll be here all summer. I’ve got a wealth of topics stored up. And there is not offseason in Spurs basketball.

i may not comment much, but i read this place every day, and its pretty much one of the few oasis’s in a sea of crap.

thanks to everyone for making it the place it is.

and thanks to the spurs…we did better than 26 other teams this year, lets not forget that.

great season yall. many ups and downs. i’m glad i finally found a great place to just talk basketball with some humor thrown in (it’s like our own spurs only tnt overtime).

i’ll check every day during the summer to see if there is any new material

Thank you all for the jokes, the angry comments, and the camaraderie . You made being a Spurs fan all the more enjoyable.

by Hipuks on May 29, 2008 11:53 PM CDT   0 recs

This is, by far, has been the most emotionally up-and-down season in my 10 years as a Spurs megafan. Not complaining really. But really really drained.

Nevertheless, I would like to thank my fellow PTRers on making this a great year to be a Spurs fan. Thanks guys!!!

by hak518 on May 29, 2008 11:54 PM CDT   0 recs

This really has been a blast.

PTR has gone global. It’s great to talk to people from all over the world. This site has made following the Spurs that much more enjoyable. It’s been great talking basket ball with you guys. I know the traffic on here will die down over the summer but remember to check back and drop us a line. And don’t forget, we have a draft to discuss in a few weeks.

Thank you for having me guys

It’s been an immense pleasure. I got off a job interview today where I’ll be probably working 60 + hours a week (up from about 35…ish) so I will probably not be around that much, but I will always check it out when I can. It’s been loads of fun!! :)

And SiMA, you can take me off your “watch”...I’m not a Laker fan in disguise :p

Rally No-Shirt

Was awesome. I’ll never forget the look on my roomates face when he walked into our living room seeing me lying sprawled out across the couch, no shirt, on the computer and mesmerized by the TV.

But seriously guys. Thanks for having this blog. I have only been a PtR member for a short time. I started reading the blog before game 1 of the 07 finals, and joined as an official member sometime around August. Thanks guys for having a place where we can all vent, without having women look at us like we’re crazy.

All in all, it was a good season. I would’ve loved to see an ‘08 DVD in my collection, mostly just because I wanted to hear the teams comments about Duncan’s 3 in game 1. THat play will live forever, right next to Memorial Day Miracle and RoHo Game 5.

Hey all

I want to echo the comments above, at least the nice ones, and let you guys know that ptr has made this season one of the most enjoyable (except for the way it ended). It’s tough to keep up on all the Spurs gossip when you are half way around the world, but the contributors here have just the right mix of info, emotion, and craziness to make it worth spending way too much time on the computer to get my Spurs fix.

Even though I’m sure my wife is expecting that the obsession is going to take a break, since the season is over and everything, I’ll still be here in the offseason to discuss the draft, figure out what the hell our F.O. is thinking, and talk shit with Laker fans.

Thank you all guys, it’s been a lot of fun, and the Spurs will be back next year, healthier, younger, deeper, hungrier. And maybe a couple of Argentinian players on the roster will have another olympic gold behind them.

Thanks....

Not here to gloat, just wanted to say thanks. You guys have a great blog here and the people who comment and contribute are the most intelligent and classy fans I have encountered as a blog “crasher”. Kind of mirrors your team. I had a great time this series talking back and forth with some of you (SiMA, Nixiack, AusTechSpur, and a few more) and not so much fun with a few (Gino20, VWolf), but it is all good.

Good luck next year, hope to do this again next WCF. Beware of the beast. (Andrew Bynum).

Oh yeah

Know any good Celtics or Pistons blogs to crash?

by pslakerfan on May 30, 2008 3:02 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

The Celtics have a blog here at SB Nation

Called “Green Bandwagon”

The Spurs are a well coached team, which is about the highest compliment I can think of for any team in any sport.

As a Lakers fan, I can certainly appreciate the difference between a well coached team and an undisciplined team (see 98-99 and 04-05 Lakers).

Get well Manu Ginobili, and good luck in the Olympics to all!

blah, blah, blah zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz snore

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Have fun in the finals.

by VWolf on May 30, 2008 12:44 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

By the way.....

I just read the game thread and I have to agree that Sasha taking that last 3 was pretty stupid. Funny thing is the Vegas line on the game was Lakers -8. That last 3 changed the fortune of every better in Vegas. Sniff, sniff, do I smell Tim Donaghey. Like I said, pretty stupid.

Also I noticed a lot of “I am gonna root against the Lakers in the finals” comments. Fair enough, I understand you guys aren’t happy with the outcome of this series, but I hope you change your mind. Gotta keep it in the family in my opinion.

As for the “Celtics beat the Lakers twice” comments. I will just say what I said here before this series started which is: This is not the same Laker team that you guys know and hate. This team is very different from the one that got spanked by the Celtics earlier in the year. The addition of Pau was about more than Pau. It changed the whole team dynamic and I think the Finals will reflect that, but time will tell.

Like I said above, great time with you guys, see ya next year.

by pslakerfan on May 30, 2008 3:30 AM CDT   0 recs

Good luck in the next series, pslakerfan. You’ve been pretty cool, for a Laker fan ;-)

There is that factor where you should root for the team your team lost to, so you could conceivably be the second best team in the league. I follow that rule, except for Oklahoma football and your Lakers. But I couldn’t root for Ray Allen and his Celtics either. I may just have to spend quality time with the wife and kid instead :-)

Catch the Spurs Spirit! It's a Fast-breakin' Fiesta!

by tomasito on May 30, 2008 7:54 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm Late to the Party

But I have to agree with all the comments in here. Pretty much everyone on this blog has had entertaining, interesting, witty comments, and they’ve all been above board. No gratuitous name calling or putdowns. I’d like to think we reflect well on our team, just like I think our team reflects well on us.

I’ll have to take a few days off, but pretty soon there will be drafting and free agency and Olympics. Oh man, if Manu looks like SuperManu for Argentina and leads them to the gold, I’ll be happy for him, but wonder what might have been.

Like everyone else, I would have to agree with this post. I didn’t comment in the live game thread because we were winning and I didn’t want to jinx it. And after the game I was too emotionally drained to even bother. However, as sad as last night was, I’m really proud of the Spurs and I love this blog. Reading it has made the wins sweeter and the losses easier. Thank you to everyone for a great season.

I love this place.

Guys, I have been at ptr from like before last season even back when we had covered the soccer world cup. I haven’t commented much, infact i just recently signed up for a userid. But just felt the need to come on here and say that you guys have made this season one of my more memorable ones as a Spurs fan.
sometimes i think you know maybe pop reads this blog… yea i know call me stupid,... but it has happened time and again when something gets suggested on here.. there it is it happens in the very next game… like playing one player as opposed to someone else.. or a change in defensive assignment.. regardless.. love all the great game analysis ..
Although we didn’t make it, I think I enjoyed all the emotion on here from ginobili haters to the no shirt rally… yes even though i didn’t post i was silently involved in all that.
I also want to thank all the Lakers fans who have visited and provided with some constructive criticism…
ptr has become like a daily visit place for me.. I just love the way you guys write about the games.
the Game threads have been awesome.. even if Im not near a computer whenever I watch a game I think I wonder what they say about that drive on the Game thread…
as someone said earlier, ptr has grown and have a lot more visitors from around the globe.. and just wanted to say I am happy to be a part of it.
I will be around to follow the draft and keep visiting..

Sometime next season we should get like 20 seats together, paint ourselves or something, and be totally rowdy.

Baseline Bums are boring now.

by Linix129 on May 30, 2008 11:48 PM CDT   0 recs

I can see it now

SiMA, ATS, and some others (JRW?) getting about 15-16 or so people together, manage to get 16 seats in a line in the AT&T Center, and when the Spurs are coming back strong from being down a bit, the camera pans to the audience…Marv is like ” LOOK AT THAT!!” and they see :

P t R N O S H I R T R A L L Y !!

1 letter on each chest of every one of us as we are whooping it up hard-core and making as much noise as possible. How’s that for dedication (and free pub?)

Who would laugh first, Tony, Manu, or Tim?

lol, that's awesome

First thing that would happen is Pop would look up and scowl. Then he’d put Horry in just to regain control. Then Barkley would talk at halftime about how fat we all were.

As much as I look to conventional wisdom from Pop on this, I hate to say it but I think it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to start preparing ourselves.

So far then...

We’d have free pub, Free Willy about 15x, a Bigfoot sighting, and Chuck going “OMG!!” with Kenny doing some “see, that’s fan dedication, that’s love for your team right there” and saying it while sounding somewhat authoriative and smart, with Marv going “wow! Look at all that!” And Reggie saying something really Reggie-like…say “well now you know why they say SA is one of the fattest cities in the nation….”

Pop scowling might not happen….and my bet is that it would be Tim that would look up and give us a Duncan face for good measure, then start cracking up laughing on the court itself….of course to do this…I think we’d need to be in the 5th row, right behind the Spurs’ bench :)

Oh yes, I can see that happening :)

Thanks guys

Can’t say much that hasn’t already been said, but thanks to Matthew and Michael for the best site on the net. It’s literally become so bad that I don’t even check on anything for work first in the day without initially getting up to speed with everything PtR. The work that you both put into this blog and the quality and dedication that you show is amazing. I’ve been on here for several years but actively started posting this year, and am completely hooked. It’s awesome to read the quality of work by the both of you, and I’m extremely grateful that you allow me onboard. Keep up the great work! We’re all SO appreciative and grateful!

And all of you other contributors are great too. Each and every one of you have made this site a true joy for me. It’s great knowing that there are other like-minded fans out there, and even greater being able to converse with all of you. We’ve established quite the little family here, and it’s so cool! Only thing is, I’m not sure how I’ll ever again be able to watch a SPURS game without having a computer in front of me!

Thanks to all for the great year. We’ll bring it all back again next season, and have to add on another shelf to the Championship trophy rack.

This is a great site. I hate ST, I hate SR – I love PtR. That is all.

Thanks for all the laughs, for sharing the pain in the defeats and the joy in the victories. You’ve all turned this season the most fun I’ve had as a Spurs fan so far. I plan to be back next year, and hope to see you all come back too.
