Round 3, Game 5: at Los Angeles
We are down 3-1 a loss sends us home.

Not much else to say about this one. So, instead, I'm going to complain about Game 4. Not about the non-call. I want to complain about the fact that I got completely screwed out of my rightful indignation. Again and again.
How you ask? Well, it all started with the referee assignments. I saw them pretty early in the day and was appalled to see Joey Crawford on the list. I must don't like him. Some of it has to do with the Duncan incident last year, but not all. I also don't think the Spurs like him and in a must-win game, you don't want a ref you have a beef with.
I was working up my "we got screwed by the league" campaign all afternoon. Then the game started. And Joey Crawford screwed me out of my indignation plan. The Spurs were getting plenty of calls. Going to the line more than the Lakers. And we were still losing. Nay, not just losing but getting completely out played and we were only in it because of the foul calls and our outstanding free throw shooting.
I was demoralized. I had no soap box. I had no go to excuse. Then the wife went to bed late in the third quarter. When Ime fouled Sasha for the 4-point play I exploded in profanity and was told, "shut up in there already".
When Manu missed his 3 to give us the lead, I cussed. "You are too loud. Can you turn it down?"
When Manu and Fab bumbled the hand-off that led to Kobe's dunk, I cursed again. "Shut up already. You are TOO loud."
Then the magical minute happened. The Spurs got some crazy breaks and got the ball with two seconds left. I was giddy with hope. I was confident. I called the FinDog from the top of the circle. I quietly hoped.
Then the up-yours to end all up-yours. Joey Crawford doesn't make the call. He spent the whole game tearing down my excuse and then poked me in the eye at the end. I had nothing.
I couldn't yell. I couldn't scream. I could only serenade him with the deafening sound of one hand clapping. The SOB.
Then PtR got overrun by Trolls, so I checked email.
I had an email from Farmar. It said, "You're still too loud".

The History of the Joke
Too funny… especially after I just viewed part of the History of the Joke on the History channel. The last segment is about how to set up a perfect joke. You lead the crowd in one direction and then immediately make a left turn at the end. Well done.
You also kinda remind me of Eddie Izzard with the running gag…

Actually
Javie was the ref during your Game 5 vs. Utah, when Gasol got away with blatant pushing off Okur when going for that rebound/dunk that iced the game. He was standing literally 5 ft. from the play, watched Gasol push off, and didn’t even reach for his whistle. So you might be ok there, at least he sided WITH you instead of against you like our Crawford blatantly does to us….

Don't start that crap again...
I am sure I can find plenty of questionable calls from the NO series. Let’s stick to the bad calls from our own series. And for the record, if Pau Gasol can move Okur 10 feet with one forearm (that didn’t move forward at all) then I am Matthew McConaughey.

I’m just stating that even if you say Javie is your Crawford, he can’t be that bad. At least he didn’t come right out and basically say he hates your squad to pieces. I only used an example that was fresh to my mind due to the hub-ub about it afterwards, no harm or “foul” intended :)

Don’t start some crap saying Javie is your Crawford. That just is not the case. Javie is an official who typically spurns the crowd and will make tough calls against the home team. Crawford is pink-headed alien sent by the scientologists to fuck with the Spurs.

Nice. Javie to the rescue lol….we build a good lead, as the Lakers will probably come out complacent at first (they did against Utah and Denver)...let’s just see if it holds up.

Does anyone else find it funny that someone picked Lakers in 6. If you are a Laker fan one would think you would put Lakers in 5 or maybe 7, but not 6. And which Spur fan would predict a Spurs victory in game 5 and then a home loss in game 6. Maybe it was “The Truth Squad’ just being an idiot. Anyway I just found that funny.
Good Luck tomorrow, or today depending on your TimeZone. By the way Nixiac, where the hell do you live? You always seem to be here quite late. Ahh you just posted, I guess you are here..

It seems like a lot of people think “well, this team is better than that team, so I think they’ll win. If they were really close I’d say it was in 7, but they’re a little better than that, so I’ll say in 6.” They completely ignore the fact that their prediction might have a team winning a game 6 on the road.
You are right. If you are trying to get it right, picking the Lakers in 5 or 7 makes the most sense. Before the series, I picked Spurs in 6, for the same reason.

My favorite part of the article is a quote from Rasheed after last night’s game. Give him credit, he speaks his mind.
“All that bull(bleep)ass calls they had out there. With Mike [Callahan] and Kenny [Mauer] - you’ve all seen that (bleep),” Wallace said. “You saw them calls. The cats are flopping all over the floor and they’re calling that (bleep). That (bleep) ain’t basketball out there. It’s all (bleeping) entertainment. You all should know that (bleep). It’s all (bleeping) entertainment.”

And strangely, the state doesn’t hate him as much anymore. There’s easily more Kobe lovers (ie- young single white women and tat-covered mid-30 year old men) at thuggets/la games these days than even thugget fans.

been out on the tiles for the last couple of days and missed posting at all for game 4. out on the tiles = detroit. man, thos epeople are going crazy up there right now. imagine having two teams left and having the both play on the same day evey time. whack.
gotta prop up to my hero here – brent barry. he has been terrific as all of you have stated. he was almost the difference in game 4. one bounce either way or some good fortune here and there and this series could be 3-1 in the spurs favor. such is the fickle fate of sports and why its so very very hard to repeat. this is why i am not completely
buying the old slow theory. dont get me wrong, the spurs are old and slow, but that’s not solely responsible for being down 3-1.
many are killing mike fin and he probably deserves it and old man muffs too. as much as i dont want to see OMM in there, the bigger question is where the fuck has kurt thomas been? i dontget this one at all – anyone have any clue about this?

I think it is a mathcups thing with KT. With Duncan on Gasol, there is nobody on the Lakers for him to defend. Odom blows right by him (as we saw in game 1), and he is not a perimeter defender who can bother Radmanovich (plus that would mean a SF or GF would be on Odom). We could really use his rebounding, but unless we zone he throws off the whole defense.

I think they can do that when Duncan is not in the game, but it is a rarity for both of them to be out at the same time (Pau and Timmeh). Otherwise Duncan has to shift to Odom or Radman, and those aren’t great matchups for the Spurs. Odom is too quick and Radman pulls Duncan away from the paint.

Sure, Odom is quicker than TD, but I doubt Fab is any quicker than Duncan, and that’s who we’ve got guarding Odom now. If Tim continues to play 5-6 feet off of Odom, as Fab has been doing, daring him to shoot a 17-foot jumper, he’s plenty quick to stay in front of him. Then if Odom goes to the basket, Tim is long enough to bother his shot (unlike Fab), plus TD would get more calls on marginal contact than Fab.

thomas guarded odom in the past as a member of the suns and did just fine. not saying he’s better/worse than fab. he’s probably close to the same – but i just want to see him in there for more defense/rebounding/offense than Old Man Muffs is giving the team in this series. Wouldn’t you rather have KT throwing one up from 15 feet than Bob?
the thing i really dont get about all this is picking Horry over Thomas. i just dont agree with it.

Guys, I’ve hit a new low. Today’s probably the most important day of the season for us Spurs fans and I’m not going to come through for you with the preview. I sincerely apologize, but I have a project due tomorrow and I won’t be getting home till just before the start of the game.
That is, if I make it at all. I’ll probably end up missing the first quarter or so.
Again, sorry, but I haven’t had a free minute in the last couple of days. I’ll try to paste some links for the Intenet TV feeds when I get home, if anything.
Hopefully we’ll win tonight and I’ll be able to redeem myself with the game 6 preview.
