This Seems Familiar

Big surprise, everybody is writing us off again, just lack last round vs the Hornets. So we're down 2-0 and couldn't "steal" one of the first two. We call it stealing because it's not supposed to happen. The team with the home court is SUPPOSED to win. That being said, one way or another we'll HAVE to steal one. There are potentially two more chances for the steal, granted the farther into series you go for that steal the lower your chances, BUT as long as we can take care of business in our house we still have good chance, i.e. the afformentioned Hornets series. Eff the injuries, the conspiracy theories, the over the hill/too old B.S. Our Spurs are champions and have the heart of one. I realize this post wreaks of homerism but I truly believe that until we lose one at home there's nothing to sweat about.  The basic keys for victory are these:

1.) Bruce MUST stay out of foul trouble stick to Kobe like glue. ( He'll get his 30 but will have to shoot 30 times and work for it)

2.) Manu needs to be Manu. If he's hurt either sit him to heal or shoot up his ankle so the real deal shows up.

3)Tony needs to be aggresive with his one man fastbreaks and attack the basket. If they pack the paint, focus on Chips shooting techniques and hit the open shot

4) Horry needs warm the bench, and if he HAS to come in, at least not until the very end so he still has his legs for a Big Shot" to even be a possiblity (would rather he warm the bench period, but Pop has blinders on when it comes to him)

5a.)J.V. MUST NOT come into the game other than to intentionally foul if needed

5b.)Bones needs to back up Tony. He's too smart and can shoot lights out opening up the paint for everyone else. Why the hell is here anyway?

P.S.

The team in general needs to hit their open shots, not just T.P. The overall intensity on D, being at home should help that, needs to pick up. Again, NO J.V. and most importantly, DO NOT go down 3-0. I know it sounds cliche but SERIOUSLY, treat this as a game 7, get the win and take that first “What about Bob” babystep.

Bones looked good from what I saw on replay/reruns from nba.com

And Manu looked like…well Manu.

What I don’t get is that the Spurs were up at 1/2 time at the Hornets by like 6 and then by 2-3. The Hornets went on a monster run in both 3rd quarters almost immediately, and in 1 game (Game 1) Pop sent out his bench as a surrender sign in the 4th quarter. They tried in Game 2 but waved the flag with about 6 left.

They go in up 8 at LA, and go up by 20 (!!) and then the Kobesault began, but they couldn’t get it going, and lost not by 15 or 18, but by 4. Now rightfully the Lakers handed it to them in Game 2….that was no contest. However you’re right, everyone else is like “welp, signal Boston/LA baby! Yeah!” .... Now with a resounding Game 3 win, if we get the same type of game on Game 4 (win by comfortable margins), then Game 5 will be a VERY big pressure game for the Lakers…. Spurs beat them handily 2 games, had a 20 pt. lead in another….and the series is tied, leaving all the momentum with the Spurs….

I know what the Laker fans will say, and they are right …”Phil Jackson teams always mail it in in Game 3.” If you knew that, then you know if they don’t show up Game 4, then you have a legitimate issue on your hands…a suddenly no-momentum team, a hot Spurs team, and a pressure packed Game 5, with a much better team than the “oh hell we gotta foul them!” Jazz on thier hands. Other than Kobe, who would show up?

"This team is like a bunch of cockroaches. They just don't die!" -Charles Barkley, after Game 7 vs. the NOOCH.

Agreed

If game 4 has a similar outcome to 3 (comfortable margin) with Manu being Manu and Bones doing back up PG duties, then the Lakes are going feel real pressure for the first time as a team. Yeah Kobe and Phil have been there and it should help but, like you said, the rest of their guys (namely youngsters like FARMER and CHICH) may pull a no show. Time will tell but again, until we lose one at home, I’m not even sweating it. Game 4 should be interesting. A resounding statement type win would be ideal but a W period would still shift the pressure back to the Lakes.

What we need is more people who specialize in the impossible. - Theodore Roethke
